Maybe teach the young guy in blue what "camp" is? This movie is among the very best of '90s horror comedy camp films.

Old review, but fun fact. The monsterous roar at the end was supposed to be King Kong. Sommers wanted that to be a lead in to a modern day (at the time) Kong reboot, with that island being Skull Island ✌🏻❤🤘🏻

Even though the movie was panned by critics and a loss in box office, but I do enjoyed it. It doesn't feels like horror, nor action or monster movie, but kinda mix of those. There are some scenes that totally embeded in my memory, in which THAT is one of most reason I like it :)

This movie always tickles me! It's like Treat Williams channeling his best Bruce Campbell the whole time! Hilarious, gross, super fun - it hits all the notes I wanted it to and more!

I love this creature feature movie. I'd take this film over Prometheus and Alien covenant any day. Honestly i really enjoy this film. Cant say the same about Prometheus and alien covenant.

I fucking love this movie. I rented this on a whim when it came out and thought it was fun. Jon comparing the special effects of a WWII movie made by Spielberg to a lower budget creature feature is ludicrous. You have props that can be built from real things that existed in the 1940s. There is no real giant tentacle monster that you can look at for reference and replicate. I remember at the time thinking that the special effects of Deep Rising weren’t amazing but still enjoyed what they were going for. I liked Famke Janssen, Treat Williams, Kevin O’Connor, and Wes Studi. The scene where we see the teammate drop out of the tentacle and being dissolved was pretty disgusting. I thought that was great. If you like some campiness and enjoy monster movies then watch this movie. It’s fun. I’m glad Iain and Gary agree.

Hmm, that blue shirt guy should get his ass outta here and go watch some fucking "The Theory of Everything" if he loves 'good' movies so much. That is if Star Trek hasn't killed him off for wearing a shirt worthy of a redshirt.

I kinda wish that this kept the original opening from the script, where we learn what actually drove the monster to the surface: an encounter with a Japanese submarine which disturbs it. It included an eerie extended sequence in which the sub explores the "valley of death" (whale skeletons and sunken ships) in the trench before encountering the creature, which is only glimpsed before heading to the surface after the sub accidentally drills into it while attempting to collect some specimens. In the finished version, the "valley of death" is briefly seen during the opening credits from the monster's P.O.V.

Deep Rising: Even the hero is a crook. Almost every single character is a criminal, and their dialogue is like something out of a Quentin Tarantino movie. Add in monster survival horror with that, you got Deep Rising. And that's all you need to know! Oh, and for those of us out there who loves movie music, it has one of Jerry Goldsmith's best soundtracks!

I think the only innocents are the passengers and crew of the cruise ship, which makes Captain Atherton's death being pulled through the catwalk with his legs being painfully bent particularly awful.

It's a generation gap thing, I side with Gary and Iain cause i feel people who appreciate this flick for what it is, saw it when they were in their late teens when it came out and they love monster films. I don't think the younger guy grew up with the creature features the same way the main guys did.

This was a very interesting movie, that I have watched several times. Jon has his own unique point of view on this movie, which I respect but reject due to his enrelenting negative comments, with no real basis. Jon, (the guy in blue) you are in the company of 2 other people that know their stuff, you appear to know stuff all! Jon, you should have stayed at Burger King, flipping burgers, where you can tell and sell all the Whoppers you like. A lot of great people work there, probably the reason you were fired.Anyway, I can only recommend this movie to those who have yet to watch it. Not a work of art, but still retains a certain magic.

It is an excellent B movie, harkening back to old monster movies. Great cast, simple straightfoward story, memorable characters, and funny as hell. Snobby Jon thinks everyone wants to watch a Martin Scorsese film. It's entertaining. What movies are supposed to be. BTW, Joey is awesome.

There was a lot of Good stuff elements in this movie although the cheapass effects considering the monster and it's reveal. However there was also a lot to like: as a dutch artist I always like Famke Jansssen in her roles (this one and Goldeneye ofcourse) This whole mythologie even made me to (want to) do a painting called deep rising: the monster it shows...aswell Starship Troopers The brain bug was an idea as well... som kinda monster makes a great movie adapted poster kinda-painting as people seem to love about me (I give expositions with movie and comic adapted work) . And as a novelist I had this idea of writing a short story ispired by this movie and about a nightmare I once had. A man comes on a big ship. A cruise ship and he is alone. Where is everyone? This plot seems really intrigue.. and he discovers everyone's been eating by a Sea creature. Developing this creature and it s origin (not so much detailded) and why it'' s he and what we learn about it seems an interesting way of writing a story.. and the charcters ..I thought they would fit in just fine.

I love the Jerry Goldsmith score and Famke and Treat are good, but the rest of it is a dead loss--like every other Sommers film, it wants to be taken COMPLETELY DEADLY SERIOUSLY one instant and then camp it up for goofball lulz the next. I usually defend CGI effects but these were unfinished SyFy-level crap. And lo and behold--The Hero With A Big Gun is the ONLY victim the beast elects to bring right up to its vulnerable eyeball. While making a cartoony scowly face. Least-favorite scene that made me say f**k this film? Either the fifteenth or sixteenth identical shot of Treat's boat racing through the waves on its way to the cruise ship. It was like restarting a time loop I was trapped in. Hey, who was caught off-guard when the presumed-dead Joey (AKA The Odious Comic Relief) popped up at the end? The audience in my theater vocally counted down and pegged his reappearance to the SECOND.
