I remember this song coming on the radio one Saturday morning in the UK. Was totally transfixed and it has literally changed my life. Up to that point guitar music meant the Shadows, knew nothing about fingerpicking. Went down to the local record shop armed with the words Watson and River Blues, fortunately for me the Guy behind the counter was a folkie and managed to order me an LP with the track on it. Still got it .

Brings back a lot of memories! Doc had a huge influence on my own life, and my music, and Deep River Blues was one of the first tunes I learned from him. I met him in the mid 60s, in Blacksburg, Va, not far from his home stomping grounds. He played at a local coffeehouse, and I was totally mesmerized from the first words he spoke and the first notes he played. He was an amazing man, one of a kind, and I will always consider him a national treasure. I've been to Merlefest in years past, and it would be a thrill to see Tommy there this year!

Don't you love how everyone is entitled to their opinion? Well, here's mine. While I admire a person's ability to speed shred leads on the guitar (or any other instrument) I think it has it's place and time, and an acoustic guitar song like this isn't it.. Many a great blues player have said; ''when it comes to leads, usually less equals more'' ... When you throw it in there just to show you can, it becomes boastful and takes away from the feel of the song. There's my opinion, like it or not. That being said, I think Tommy is one of the best pickers out there alive today, and my admiration for him is endless.. Keep rockin it, brother.. Cheers

Tommy you are without a doubt the most astonishingly mesmerizing and talented guitarist I think the world has ever known. It's truly an awe-inspiring experience watching and listening to you play and the wide range of sounds and "feeling" you're able to evoke and coax out of a guitar. I write my own material using a keyboard or piano and have since I was a child, and even tho I never learned how to read music or master an instrument it was your music and videos that inspired me to try the guitar. Keep on keepin' on brutha!
