got stuck in the mountain with my jeep last weekend. Sat there and was like what would Lars do? build a Siberian log fire and make tea, so I did. it was a great time. I do keep a quarter of my camping/hiking gear with me at all times. thanks very much Lars for all your information you share.

That view of the snowy forest was just what I needed. Where I live now, we're having temperatures of about +15 C, and it's been raining nearly non-stop for a week. This video brought back memories of my childhood, playing in the snow in the Schwartzwald east of Leipzig with my friends. In many ways, I do miss the snow. Oh, about the Snowshoe Hares - many people don't know that these creatures inhabit forested areas across the entire Northern Hemisphere, not just in the USA and Canada.

Hello Lars😀 We don't get deep snow here in southern Ohio but it's nice to knowhow to do this "reverse"Siberian log fire. One never knows what environmemt one might find himself in. There was a man and his family driving cross country. Long story short they got stranded on the road in deep snow he went looking for help and died of exposure. His wife and daughter survived in the car and were rescued.

(Savage = the Irish version of awesome) I think in this age of technological over reliance where people are disconnected from nature literally and figuratively, they can't see the woods because the trees are blocking their Wi-Fi signal :D , that statement you made is a nugget of pure wisdom. Couldn't agree more. And while you're at it, listen to camp radio. I can't tell you how many times I've passed or been passed by hikers with ear buds blasting some godawful commercial pop (loaded with sugar, transfats, and salt) while all around them are birds, frogs, running water, the wind - the music of the wild. Unplug, for god's sake - join the real world for a while! (BTW, I'm in New England, USA)

I remember camping in deep snow in northern Pennsylvania as a young man. I made all the mistakes you can imagine, including a fire built on top of the snow that quickly started to sink and put itself out. Your technique with the three logs would have come in real handy back then! Awesome video!,

I love watching your videos and take on things. You seem like such a great guy. Wouldn't it be nice to to get to spend time around a fire sharing fishing and hunting stories. My son and I have anxiously been awaiting a weekend to go hammock camping but here in Louisiana it has been raining pretty much every weekend with some severe (tornados and hail) Can't wait to get out and fix up a small camp, relax, eat, and drink hot coffee. I feel almost as though I was there in the snow with you. Thanks!

Those skis are the way to travel in snow, I had no idea it was that deep. You just can't tell. That is exactly how i would have split that wood. I have never been around much birch that stuff splits beautifully.

11:34 I'm seeing ashes falling down between the two main logs. Question: to minimize the gap between the two main logs, suppose the fire were built ONLY laying kindling and larger logs Lengthwise, parallel to the two main logs. Well the first stacking between the logs then some cross hatch on the very top to get the fire started, but the main bed of logs parallel to the two main logs. This places long raw wood lengthwise between the logs in the crack. Slows the airflow and fire between the two main logs, making for slower decomposition of the main logs. Yes maybe slightly smaller, slower fire, but a more sustained bed of ashes and embers. Anyway I'm interested, and wonder what your thoughts might be, or maybe you get a chance to try and compare the way shown, and maybe the way proposed. Always enjoy your videos. Regards. 11:44 you could push a small log into that opening shown, and it would reduce airflow, and collect and support ashes, and keep the fire high and hot, as opposed to falling apart. It would further burn more of the main logs above the three logs(the two main and the one inserted) Anyway, your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Since you are always using folding saws i thought i'd give em a try so i bought a Chinese brand one (2$ flea market deal ) something larger than a bahco laplander it has 6 TPI and i'm starting to see why you like folding saws so much. For a Chinese one it does really good work it's razor sharp i can only imagine what the higher quality ones are like.
