I was 5 when this movie was released. Was down visiting my oldest Aunt in a town we didn’t live in, my youngest Aunt who was 13 and my oldest cousin was 6, we all got together on a bus to go to the local mall that had a theater in it to see this movie. On way to mall we were not sure if we were on the correct bus so they sent me up to ask the driver and make sure this bus was going to the mall. It was and we did see the movie. I don’t remember how we got back to my oldest aunt’s house.

One thing I noticed when watching Goonies years ago that I couldn't believe: In one shot there's a calendar on the wall (I believe it's when the kids are in the kitchen and Chunk says "God, I'm depressed" after Troy's father leaves), and the calendar is dated October 26, 1985, which is the same date that Marty goes back to 1955 in Back to the Future. Also, Mrs. Walsh was played by Mary Ellen Trainor, Robert Zemeckis's wife at the time, who also played one of the 2015 police officers in Back to the Future Part II.

As an 80's kid, this was one of my favorite movies growing up, and still holds a special place in my heart. I can't tell you how many times I wished I was a Goonie, to be able to go on adventures and come out with a pirate's treasure.
@busterdog321

For the love of One Eyed Willy PLEASE let this be the end of the adventure. We don't need a Part II or a remake or a reimagining, or a prequel, or a crossover with old actors. It's done and the story was set off to sea with The Inferno. We forget the things from the past are so endeared to us because we enjoyed them in our youth and they became a special part of it. We don't need the next adventure because we were supposed to go make our own.

This movie is such an important part of my childhood. The first time I saw it was when my family was on a road trip when I was 11. It was the dead of night and all my other siblings were asleep (except for my older sister) while my parents were driving. My sister and I were in the back of the car covered in blankets watching it. We laughed so hard when Mouth was translating instructions for Rosalita. Though we did try to quite down since my other siblings were sleeping. Now every time my sister and I see each other we quote the movie! I had so much fun and it is one of my favorite memories. I am a massive 80’s fan and this was around the time when I was really getting into the era. I was already in love with the music from the 80’s what with growing up listening to it and delving deeper into it around the time I saw the movie. I even tried to style my hair like Mouth. My dad always likes to tell me how when he was a kid he and his friends were literally like the Goonies in which they actually all rode their bikes to go see it for the first time. This movie is such a big part of my childhood and I love it so much. Every time now I go on a trip I make sure to watch this movie. (Also kind of random question, but has anyone noticed that the actor who plays Troy in this movie also plays in the Jessie’s Girl music video? I could be wrong though.)

I think it'd be fun to bring everyone back for some sort of a reunion to Astoria and then have them decide that they're going to go scuba diving to find the pirate ship. Now that they're all much older, it'd be along the lines of a mid-life crisis movie where they want to relive their youth by going on "one last adventure". I'm not a writer so I don't know how you'd make it fun with different twists and turns, but having them finally recover the treasure would be awesome. It'd also be incredible to see all of the cast together again.

This movie is very special to me because when I was about 10 my group of friends and me were obsessed with the 80s/70s/90s we loved everything about it we loved thinking of living in a time without much technology and just hanging out with friends and playing arcade games for example instead of playing on PlayStations we played pac man and donkey Kong and we loved rock music so much we even had a band and one of the key things that started that love of the 80s/90s/70s was this movie the goonies every time we had a sleepover we always used to watch old movies but our favorite was the goonies we loved it so much because it was just the story of a group friends hanging out and finding treasure whithout any phones or social media and that why this film will always have a special place in my heart and I still continue to wish that sometimes I wish I would have grown up in the 80s because it reminds me of a simpler time in which you could just hang out with your friends and have fun without caring about anything

Brolin revealed the blunder during an Ask Me Anything session yesterday on Reddit. “They didn’t show us the ship that was being built, which would now be CGI I’m sure, so this was long enough ago that everything was practical (which made things much more fun & fantastical),” he said. “So it was on a stage, the stage was a massive pool with a practical 110 foot boat built in it. And they backed us up into the stage, into the water, had the camera set up so that we could have an ‘organic’ reaction. “I came up out of the water, turned around, we all came up out of the water, I turned around and said ‘Holy sh*t!’ which ruined the whole take. And the surprise. “So we had to resort to acting in the end.”

My friend and I sometimes refer to whether or not to “ride Troy’s bucket,” which has so much more connotation than just giving up or throwing in the towel. It means you are aware that this is your time, this inflection point in your life, and you have to decide whether to accept defeat and abandon the path, or persevere instead. And if you don’t ride Troy’s bucket, you continue your path with renewed vigor, confident that you have committed to your choice. I love that when we tell our other friends that it’s a Goonies reference, they instantly understand the meaning.

Hopefully, you see this. I have a suggestion for a deep dive into the film who framed Rodgers rabbit. I have a feeling it would be a fun breakdown! And btw definitely enjoying these deep dive and glad you dedicated a channel to them. Keep up the good work!

When this came out when I was a kid we didn't even have a vhs-player at home, we had to rent a moviebox and could only keep it for a day before we had to return it, so naturally me and my brother watched the movie 5 times before we had to return the thing just in time for the video store to close. Fond memories!

I swear i saw that octopus scene on a vhs that my family had recorded from tv way back in the late 80s and ive had nightmares my whole life about that octopus. Always thought it was just a dream

The Goonies 2 could be a courtroom drama, where Chunk has to represent Mikey in court over his claim to One Eyed Willy's now located ship. 😆

I love this movie. Fun fact; a friend of mine was given the nickname Chunk due to The Goonies and now, 35yrs later, that is still the name pretty much everyone calls him.

Fun Fact: octopi actually appear in the first Goonies video game released for Famicom/NES and arcades, and the level they appear on seems to be based on the same setting where they fought the octopus in the film (a body of water inside a cave with waterfalls cascading from the ceiling). Konami definitely did their homework on the source material (though some original enemies were also added in like giant rats and even kitsune)

Would be awesome if they made an one eyed willy movie. Telling his story with his crew

A. Sharp and B flat. I watched this movie before I became a musician and so I didn't realize at the time that those were the same note. Good catch on that Voss!
