It has to be said. Given how much they relied on Pyramid Head for marketing since SH2 came out, I can already see him being overused and it all just ruining the point. I don't want to be pessimistic about this remake... But I just can't see it being done right. The fact they aren't even making it in house only adds to my concerns, though it's good to see Ito and Yamaoka back

He's barely in the game no wonder they dropped his name from the title as you don't see him much outside of cut screens and that isn't RE3:NEMESIS to me. I could go on and on about what got cut from that game but at this point everyone knows.

That's the wonders of High definition, one of the things that bother me tho is the absence of the filter grain i particularly liked it in the Original, it enhanced the feeling of unease through the game, but i guess they are going to ditch it to get an HD looking game.

Who? Neither of the two wrote the story or the main pieces of the games. No one is left besides them, so they can only convey so much and Konami has always allowed whoever to take whatever approach they want with the games. That's just marketing to put people off from worrying about what they will do to it.

@@blumiu2426 It’s been confirmed via several interviews and by Ito himself that he had a hand in developing the story and several scenarios within the game. It's going to be very hard to pull off a good remake of such a unique and iconic game. If they can nail the sound design, voice acting, and music with nearly pitch black, cramped, overwhelming situations with monsters without giving it too much AAA cinematic pointlessness then it might be pretty good, idk. Basically Bloomberg team or whatever they're called nead to understand what makes the game good and focus on that. Konami seems to just want to get the fans somewhat happy and excited again after the whole Metal Gear fiasco

Metal Gear has nothing to do with and they are well beyond that. I think people put too much emphasis on it when Japanese companies do not care when it comes to messing with their money. If they are old-school, they could care less for what is thought as long as they have other means of revenue, which Konami does. They are building good will because every other Silent Hill has been bad. How the world MGS came into this...

@@blumiu2426 Um well I'm assuming that Konami's soulless, ancient, pachinko, and shitty mobile game loving asses probably saw the trend of high budget remakes making a ton of money and thought" Hey, couldn't we, like, dump a bunch of money into making more of those crappy horror games we don't understand the appeal of and also make a bunch of money now that we've bled all these overworked gambling addicts dry for 10 fucking years?" Or something like that, so when I say care about what the fans think, I mean $$$$$$. So it doesn't exactly inspire hope, but like Mr Deep Dives said at least they got a couple OGs on board for the project good luck to Boober team hopefully it's not a bunch of cutscene QTEs and horrible shitty action garbage and actually scary. Plus, y'know they used the fart in the wind that was Metal Gear Survive as an excuse to stop giving a shit about their IPs and probably hired 3 people to minimize costs to remake old MGS cutscenes for people to look at while gambling.

@@Issen_Mode I'm not sure why everyone wants to conveniently forget that Hideo Kojima wanted to stop working on Metal Gear Solid at the third game, but Konami made him keep working on them. Why he had to retcon and eventually entire interest lost by The Phantom Pain in why the story wasn't good. If the creator no longer wanted to work on it, why do fans keep harping on about it coming back in some form? It's just as bad as the corporations. Some game franchise need to end and should before they end up ruined. Metal Gear Survive was to placate people asking for another game, so clearly no one should touch it again if those are the results (Masahiro Ito involved there coincidentally), even a remake is going to need input as the changes in The Twin Snakes people didn't like despite Kojima giving his input but wanting that team to do their own approach. Adjusting the price comparison to the 90s, none of the remakes have sold more than their original counterparts. Even before remakes were a reality, fans only wanted one thing from remakes, yet out of the woodwork in modern times we get revisionist thinking that pushes away fans from the practice. Konami is one of the worst people to expect a quality remake from and two people not involved with the actual creation of the story and conceptual approach to the story aren't going to help. Their presence is marketing and only involved so much as their occupational involvement, as I'm sure Bloober is not reaching out to those team members departed. Look at the last two Silent Hill movies. Look at Castlevania on Netflix. We now of their mobile games. What can we expect from them now just because they are trying to bank hard on a trend, knowing there are fans psychologically willing to accept anything as long as they get their "fix" of a remake and will use mental gymnastics to excuse what failings they can?

I think the hardest part about remakes is deciding what path to take. On one hand, you stay on the original path, and make it as close to the 2001 game as possible. But it could come across as a lazy cash grab, unoriginal, and possible get the "just go play the original" treatment. On the other hand, they could try to make somewhat of a new game, with roots from the original. But then you run the risk of derailing from the set story and themes, and get something that stains the legacy that the original had. I think for me i just want to make sure the tone of the game stays. When i first booted it up on my ps2, i felt confused that james was just so deadpan during these terrifying moments, and it caught my interest. But now it feels a bit like they're illuminating a sign that says "HE IS SAD" in front of us. Idk, it could just be me interpreting things in my own way, but I'll keep my hopes up. Only time will tell it after all. Keep up the good work! Recently found your channel and loving these videos!

How many people said "go play the original" with Shadow of the Colossus or Demon's Souls remakes? None. People keep saying this and there is never any evidence of faithful remakes putting people off. They opposite happens. Remakes that deviate are the ones that push people to play the originals. Remakes originally were mentioned by fans to be one thing primarily: a graphical update, don't change anything else unless improving or adding meaningful content. "Meaningful content" became changing something with the characters, narrative, not additional levels, items or story. Japan is a prime example of IPs surviving and thriving with the only changes being technological and what they only ask for. It seems only some in the Western audience, usually new, want to change things

I am really excited, and scared at the same time : I really hope Bloober team understands the world, the story, and the soul of the game, this will be important for new players as well as the long-time fans. Of course, two pillars of Silent Hill are in the project so that is a good sign. Let's how much they are involved though. A small thing that concerns me, and a trend I didn't really care for in later entries was the transition to the nightmare world in real time. Having the nightmare world just load after going through a door you just went through had a disorienting effect and contributed towards that dream-like feel. Also blooper seems to be a team that doesn't excel at story telling past the superficial which is fine for some narratives but with Silent Hill I feel they're probably biting off more than they can chew. I do believe they have a genuine love for the source material but I am very skeptical about they're ability to pull off a story like SH2's. I look forward to watching playthroughs but I highly doubt I'll be getting it (though I really do hope to be proven wrong) Thank you for this lovely video and all of your other Deep Dives!!

Personally, I am very excited for this remake. As I was only about 9-10 years old when I first played silent hill 2, a lot of complex, or "adult" themes were completely lost on me. a couple decades later I have revisited the game, primarily though other people's playthroughs and have since gained a much greater appreciation for the game. I am looking forward to the idea of being able to experience this all somewhat for the first time again, this time at a more appropriate age. I think the RE2 remake showed just how well an old survival horror can be remade with updated visuals and gameplay, and that alone gives me a decent amount of confidence that the remake might actually be very solid. I somewhat understand peoples unease about bloober, but it's not as if they have never made anything good. They have done good in the past, I believe they have it in them to do this remake right. Especially if they use the resident evil remakes as a guide in terms of what fans felt worked, and what they didn't. To me, the trailer has shown nothing yet to make me doubt that this will be good (granted, it didn't really show much in general). I'll reserve judgement until the actual release, but I am optimistic about this remake.

I think team silent is what made silent hill a special saga, I'm glad that masahiro ito and akira yamaoka are involved in this remake, but as we saw in silent hill homecoming, the monsters and music desing is not the only thing that made silent hill special, from what has been seen in the trailer, neither the voices nor the acting convince me, I always saw the bathroom scene at the beginning as a kind of moment of reflection and self-analysis for james, here, it seems that he's scared as fuck for some reason, graphically, is gorgeous, but, the trailer does not transmit the same "weirdness" of the original sh2 imho. So, i REALLY want to like It, but at this moment, i'm not convinced with this, i don't like bloober team games, nothing against them but they're not my cup of tea. I really hope to be proven wrong, but only the time will say

To be honest I don't think the controls have aged as badly as many people say... Sure, when I came back to these games I had to get used to tank controls again, but in my opinion, it works for James to move slowly and with hesitation given his mental state. The clunkiness when hitting straight jackets with a wooden plank and the slow animation, while it may just be dated, can be put down to James hesitating to kill anything as it reminds him of... something. I'm most worried they're gonna handhold too much, getting lost in silent hill was part of the charm and worked-- much like James didn't have a clue half the time, neither did we. A fat objective on the screen telling you to go to rosewater park would ruin it. In the original he mentioned the park, we had to keep using the map and find our own way there. It just worked. In my opinion they cannot remake this and do it justice. The fact Konami outsourced it to bloober speaks volumes. This won't be a Resident Evil 4 type remake, and I'd love to be proven wrong.

I really agree with everything you said, but I must admit that there is plenty that I really don't like about the remake. I know that little was shown, but the magic about the original is that the signs were all there from start, although subtle you could look at hindsight and realize that was all there from the start. I don't like James's hand shaking while in the bathroom, his facial expression always utterly like a puppy asking for pets. James was all about being so apathetic that you would mistakenly judge him as a shallow character, or his voicing as poorly done, and that was a crucial part of his psyche and the reveal that he himself killed his wife. I get the feeling that they will over do a lot of things, and that will take away of how masterfully the story is capable of unfold.

I disagree with the HD collection voice acting not fitting. I thought they had more emotion in their words and they sounded great, especially James and Maria. The voices fitted Thier faces and characters perfectly. Mary's note that she reads at the end of the game sounded perfect too, so much emotion of sadness, regret and fear pouring out of her as she speaks was moving. The voice acting made me cry too. If they got the same voice actors for the new game i would be impressed and thankful, it just feels like they would be a perfect fit. I also think that they should keep the music as CLOSE to the original as possible. The music is so aesthetically pleasing, the piano's, guitar, creepiness of it all is amazing and wouldn't feel right if it didn't stay. Overall im excited for this remake, im not worried they will do something wrong because at the end of the day its a remake that gives me more content on a game i love, and i can always go back to the original if this doesn't turn out perfect. Just high hopes and love for this amazing series.

I'm not sure what Ito will contribute aside redoing monster design artwork, but at least we will get a new OST from Yamaoka. The problem is, neither are writers or had part in the putting together of the narrative. That's what is important. We don't know what capacity they are involved beyond being props to give fans confidence, their credentials and to stand in juxtaposition to Bloober Team being chose to develop. I've no faith in that team and I know they will be making changes. We saw what a big change voice acting made in the remaster, so imagine just tampering with small, but meaningful aspects that Bloober Team may not feel are crucial or they can convey better. The mere fact they are making a "modern audience" version movie alongside the game shows just how much Konami cares about the IP beyond money. They skipped the first game which would be more deserving and more straightforward, but these games are products of a team near crafted that only they could produce it. Or maybe only Japanese devs can produce from their perspective as every Western game has failed on multiple aspects. All of this done with Konami not caring how it was treated, so what's the difference now?

For me, I love everything about Silent Hill 2 but I don't love playing Silent Hill 2, it's a long-list as to why but it's mostly with the combat of the game being so mundane and boring. I'm hoping this remake aims to make it better while still having that sort of weak, frantic feeling of fighting in the games early years. Knowing Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka are involved in the making, I'm optimistic about this announcement but the only thing I fear is if the rest of the team don't understand the symbolism and the story quite well. Have you went back and re watched the original silent hill 2 trailer ? It’s so much better! it doesn’t reveal much at all with the story unlike the remake trailer. I also hate the mirror scene and hope they change it as it messes with the actual plot. James shouldn’t be panicking at all. If you add that scene with context of the original it ruins the plot of the game. The subtlety goes out the window.

Most remakes have done away with QTEs though. The gameplay in FF7R definitely wasn’t a clone of DMC as well. The gameplay was a nice balance of old and new. FF16 is the one that’s going to feel like DMC.

Although i love silent hill 2, i'm not excited for this remake and is hard to pin exactly on the why. Maybe is konami being konami potentially ruining the project the way they butchered mgs5, maybe is team blooper taking one of the best showcases of fixed camera horror and turning into a over the shoulder for "immersion", or maybe is the same reason i'm not into re4 remake, wanted this budget and time invested in another game more deserving of a remake or sequel. Welp only time will tell if things will turn out good.

I oppose this for numerous reasons, first being it's not developed by Konami or Team Silent. I also oppose making this game before remaking SH1. The Polish developer said they're making it for a "modern audience" which to me is synonymous with identitarian sociopolitics jargon AND the developer said they were toning down the horror of a classic horror game. I also don't believe the original voice cast will be topped nor its Performa. HD Remaster redubbing sucked. I played SH2 last winter for the first time in near 20 years, it ages well. Remaking RE2 made sense since it was a PS1 game. Resident Evil was remade on Gamecube and it still looks damn good. It annoys me they want to Remake SH2 while leaving SH the 32 bit Polygonal PS hell that it is, the graphics, controls and acting do not age well. SH specifically deserves a Remake, SH2 is fine as is.

I have very little faith in the remake, Bloober Team's bad track record is too glaring to ignore. Some people are saying that it doesn't matter that their older games are poorly written, because Silent Hill 2 is already a completed work. I take issue with this because for one, we have no idea how faithful they will be to the original script, any changes they make will more than likely be for the worse and even if every piece of dialogue is the same and each scene is nearly identical, the way each scene is shot will still inform the player on how they're supposed to feel. Each scene in SH2 was very deliberately made with a certain tone, mood and atmosphere, misunderstanding that, regardless of how close the remake might be to the original on a surface level, means they will misrepresent those scenes, this is already evident when you compare the shot of James looking in the mirror in the bathroom. The original shot conveys ambiguity through James's lack of emotion, the undercurrent of darkness within his character with the use of heavy shadows and tension with the intensity of his stare. In the remake, this exact shot is replicated with literally none of those nuances. I really hope the remake is good, but I feel that at best it will be inoffensive and at worst, a travesty that ruins a classic.

The scenes shown in the trailer were frame by frame copied from the original game, I think you can put all your fears aside and this well be a very faithful remake. The cross-media segment gave the impression that they care a lot more about milking the franchise as much as possible with little care for the design and themes that led to it's success. Particularly insulting was the merchandise section where they misrepresent the elevator scene, talking about Red Pyramid Thing's great knife when at that point he had a spear. Might seem minor but, like, your selling a diorama and nobody on staff could be bothered to validate the scene's authenticity?

I work with people who are in various stages of mental illness. People with overwhelming anxiety, paranoia and fear. They may talk about things that make no sense to the normal person, but at no point do they sound like they have no idea what they’re feeling. Feelings are VERY specific even if they can’t be pinpointed as to their causes. Silent Hill, for the most part, has poorly directed voice actors. You can tell me until you’re blue in the face that this was intentional, but guilt and frustration doesn’t manifest in speech like it does in SH2. I still love the games, but to give it a pass is ridiculous.
