I think the three major bass singers in acapella are more or less equal in depth. It's not worth arguing about. But it's the smooth rich tone that sets Geoff apart. He has worked hard on his range for years and does all the arrnaging, filming and editing, it's pretty spectacular to see what one man can do, with a little help from his wife Kathy. Maybe try his Blackbird, or Shenendoah. Or Ain't No Sunshine. Actually God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is one to catch too, something quite different.

This is the bass singer for VoicePlay. Their arrangement of the Halo theme really showcases how low he can go

Thanx for showing the closed captioning! He sometimes uses humor, like at the end when the captions say (Super dramatic bend to a low F#). He also describes what's happening, like in Ain't No Sunshine - Geoff humming, Geoff harmonizing, haunting pensive music. I think the reason for the detailed description is because his wife, Kathy, has profound hearing loss, so he is very conscious of the difficulties some people have in listening to his music. Really enjoyed this reaction, thanx for sticking with Geoff and Voiceplay.

Another reason he "knows" exactly what each part is doing is because he also arranged this, an achievement in itself to bring something new to the song while remaining faithful to the original. Not quite sure how you can gush so much about him throughout the song and then say you don't care for his lead voice though.

Geoff is a huge Take 6 fan. In a recent webchat, he said any ranking of acapella groups has to start with Take 6 at the top.

This Tennessee Earnie Ford song is the first one of his that I saw that drug me down the Geoff Castellucci / Voiceplay rabbit hole. Then It took us fans a year of begging to get him to do Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean.

Hey Van, If you haven't already done it you should consider reacting to Geoff Castelucci's cover of Big Bad John. It is amazing.

His cover of House of the Rising Sun is my favorite. My Nitpick for this song is he changes a Lyric. It's supposed to be "If the right one don't get you, then the left one will", but he switches it. it's weird, but still nice.

maybe it’s harder to sing words starting with L than R in a lower register? cause with L you have more tongue movement, tho idk…

Bro love you posts! 6 no ago I tried singing deep for the first time I couldn’t sing any of Jeoff songs now I can match him not for note except for 1 note and I almost have it.

I watched an opera singer match his tone on piano… he literally hits an A1 in one of his videos. Fucking insane. That’s almost at the end of the keys. You trying to match his notes is literally me 😂😂😂 I’m a woman. I could never and will never hit these notes but I tried all damn day anyways.

This is really good, that is even deeper than the original, although the original Tennessee Ernie Ford's version is still my favorite - was gonna link it here but found you already reacted to it (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZzYkpeGebyfhdE). Johnny Cash also did a more fast-paced cover of it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpfTY4Jvdqmqfc0

No, he is the bass singer for Voice Play.

Arguable statement you made. Tim Foust (Homefree) may have Geoff beat in sheer lower notes and Tim Storms definitely does. Elliott Robinson is another. I think the point with all these singers is they are very rare and the good ones need to be encouraged. P. S. They don't compete against each other. Pentatonix I assume you're talking about Avi Kaplan because their current bass singer Matt is not an actual bass. Avi's voice hasn't fully matured yet. He just entered his 30s and 40 is when a bass voice matures. Geoff uses subharmonics to achieve his lowest notes and neither Tim nor Avi do. Comparisons can't really be made. You like Geoff the best. Others of us prefer Avi or Tim Foust.
@Alasterius412 жыл бұрын
Geoff has a lower Chest voice than Tim Foust (I mean full chest voice without fry), but yes, Tim storms is definitely lower. Geoff uses subharmonics to achieve even lower notes than what he can achieve with his chest voice and Tim Foust uses growl techniques to achieve the lowest notes

Love Tim too but as Geoff gets older his bass gets deeper and his recent releases are so low. Tim use to be deeper and Geoff always considered himself to be a baritone but Geoff has managed to keep his beautiful high range as his voice deepens.
