LOL I told myself that 8 synthesizers ago. My recording room looks like mission control. I have a DeepMind 12, a Model D, a K2, A Yamaha DX7, DX7s ( i prefer the original DX7) and a Yamaha EX5. THEN I have an Ensoniq SQ1+ and a Novation Mini Nova. I can usually play them all through my DAW from my master controller keyboard which is an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. I think I have enough synthesizers ( according to my wife at least) and it's doubtful I have room for anymore :) If you want a great analog synth, go with a Deep Mind 12. I have been playing piano and keyboards my entire life (since age 3) and I have to tell you, the Deep Mind has to be my favorite out of all the synths I have ever owned!

I've also had my Deepmind since launch. Great value even for the higher price tag back then. The feature I miss the most is a global FX on/off switch, or a global wet dry slider. The FX are so powerful on this synth and somewhat overwhelming on a lot of the presets. I know you can go to the FX menu bypass, but while browsing your presets it's a bit involved.
@renemunkthalund3581
@renemunkthalund3581 4 жыл бұрын
I know, but I'd say, all the more reason to have more than menu access to the FX, or just a global bypass or wet/dry . Tweaking a preset I find it very helpful to check what part of the sound is the analog engine, what part is the effects - exactly because the effects are modulatable in the matrix it can sometimes be hard to tell.

Alright! A loopop DM video! I had assumed you were letting this one pass by. Glad that isn't the case. One quick note on the mod matrix: You don't have to use the data entry or encoder to set the values. There are shortcuts. You can hold the MOD switch, then press an edit button to set the source to that control. Then you can move the fader for any destination and it will set it. Obviously if the parameter doesn't have a hardware control on the DM, then you have to use the encoder/data entry slider, but it is a nice time saver. Thanks for a great, in depth video!

@@deauvillevrienden I normally would agree with you, however I own both the DM12 and OMNISphere and Eric does and amazing job with it for over 10 years he keeps updating it and making better each time. The v2.6 with Hardware integration is really amazing as Adam's mentions. Of course, I would rather buy a Behringer CS-80 Hardware synth than some software plugin. But with OMNISphere you really get a good way to integrate your hardware and software together and can do some cool live things with it, stacking and layers voices and using a hardware MIDI slider controller or iPad. Plus it has over 10k of sounds included and your can create and import your own samples. So, I would say it's worth checking out. Just my 2 cents.

DM12, Neutron, MS-1 so far here. Each is definitely a lifelong keeper. 808, Poly D, K1 and their 303 clone is next on my list... though if they start releasing any heavy hitter polys or certain classic monos this year, those will have to sit on the back burner for a while. 2600, OB-6, CS-80 and VCS-3 ? Man,. If they hit a home run with those, the synth world will explode and ULI will be king forever.

Hi, This has been so helpful to me. You have a wonderful way of simplifying complex (or seemingly complex) stuff. In fact you are my go to guy when I want to understand my gear better. One thing I am curious about is what goes on before you record your videos. I would love to see a new video of how you explore a new piece of gear. Your process seems to get to the heart of what a synth/keyboard/etc is capable of. I think that video would be incredibly helpful for many people. To adopt your discovery process (what we don't see). The older we get the harder it seems to really deep dive our gear. Thank you for all that you give and your simple approach is a huge benefit to many of us. Cheers!

Had a DM 2 years but still learnt a lot from this video. You've researched this great synth very well Loopop. One thing owners might like to try is using the control sequencer as a note sequencer as shown in the video, and combining it with the arpeggiator. By slowing the control sequencer you can get nearly the same function as the Minilogue XD's note sequencer, ie 32 continuous measures of an arp sequence that's changing pitch. The DM is a terrific synth!

This synth amazes me more and more every time I play it. I use it probably more than any other synth I have at this point. What a gem.

I wish Behringer would provide alternative models with an LCD & digital preset save function in their analog reboots for those of us who aren't as concerned with tradition. Great review! Thanks

Excellent video! It answered a few of my questions about the Deepmind. The only thing I wish the synth had which is missing is ring modulation.

Would be interested in a follow up video exploring what you could do with the CV in, particularly if you could integrate a bit of modular synth gear into the mod matrix of the DM12.

@stephen roldan Explore and let us know what you find! I'll be doing the same once I've rebuilt my studio. I think there could be a lot of interesting things to come up with, particularly if you could sequence chord holds in the pedal mode demonstrated in this video. I'd also like to use the random generator of my 0-coast for messing with things in the mod matrix.
