HARLEY DAVIDSON X440 FIRST RIDE REVIEW | Impressive In City But Can It Do Highway Touring? Pros&Cons

I own this vivid bike. I just toured from Delhi to shimla-kufri-narkanda-kasol-delhi. Following is my feedback: 1. The grunt - Oye Hoye - awesome. It feels that the bike is talking to you. It will feel like 1980's bullet + modern harleys combo sound 2. Exceptional balance and control - you can ride without touching the handle even at speed of 22 kmph. This show the amazing center of mass of this bike. 3. Controlled Cornering: The cornering is amazing on this bike. I just loved it. The gliding makes you want to ride more and more. 4. Massive Road Presence: Everyone looks at this bike. They turn around to watch it. I have got lot of compliments as well. 5. The sweet spot for this bike is anywhere between 40-90 kmph. Confused? why such a big range? So, its engine is tuned in such a way that it automatically performs in 2 modes. One is the low touring mode which give a very soothing vibe at low speed and high gears and the other mode is sweet punchy mode which happens at around 70-90 kmph. There is no switch/electronics for it. It all depends on how you start and ride the motorcycle for the first 5-10 mins. Then the engine automatically adjusts as per your mood. It feels that the engine is talking with you. 6. Springy suspensions: Initially, the suspensions were hard but after 5000 kms they have loosened and now it's very fun to ride. 7. Mileage: In the mountains, during uphill and downhill combined I got a mileage of 29 kmph (XP95 petrol). So, with normal petrol you should get 33 kmpl. On the highways, i got a mileage of 36.1 kmpl (XP95). In city traffic it gives around 30-32 kmpl. The idea is to rev it around 2-3000 rpm. 8. Low maintenance: It is very low maintenance and 70% mechanical bike. So, no tension of getting repairs at remote locations. 9. cockpit/rider view: It good/ rugged/clean. Cons: 1. Seat: The seat needs a big improvement. It ain't that comfortable in long rides. 2. Mirrors: The mirrors vibrate a lot. I changed positioning of the mirrors so viewing angle problem was resolved (100%) but they vibrate a lot at high speeds and they could be bigger for more coverage. 3. Top speed: The top speed that i could do on this bike is 141 kmph on meerut expressway. But the bike seemed a bit out of control after 135 kmph. I mean i lost confidence after 135 kmph. after hitting the highest, i slowed down instantly because it's very risky in India riding at that speed because any animal can just run across anytime. Now on highways with good visibility, i try to maintain 90-100 and not go beyond that because of animals and children in India. However, the top speed could be improved considering it's competitors like speed 400 and himalayan (similar cc engine), because after 130 it feels under-powered and it reached 130 at 6500 rpm. i have not taken it to 8000 rpm till date and i don't plan to do as well. Now why this seems to be a con is because when you are riding in groups with bigger motorcycles, you are constantly required to maintain a speed and the last thing you want is you struggling to maintain that speed of 130-140 kmph. like it will become tiring for you. However, you can improve the speed by maybe installing a big windshield as it will reduce the heavy air drag.

I own harley x440, what I like about this bike is its character, loud exhaust similar to actual harley (considering single cylinder engine), It's higher low end torque will help you in city traffic. Riding experience and road experience is just awesome, look is also elegant for me.Instead of looking in video you should try the test ride.🎉

I like RE 350 and i do test driver speed 400 also x440.... Engine refinement exhaust sound and character everything i liked of x440.... I go with H D X440... this is my personal opinion 🙏

Only one correction, front tyre is 18" dia and rear is 17". Rest is Ok and certainly a desirable bike to have.

Bike comparison should be made against same category and near similar power. Himalayan is Adv category bike and Harley is a city and highway cruiser. HD440 needs to be compared with Honda Highness350, Meteor350, Classic350 and Triumph Speed400 in similar category. In my test ride the HD440 had better suspension than Meteor and Highness

I had very bad experience with test ride from Capital Harley. I tested it when the bike was launched. The sales person was least interested in telling about the bike and was very sarcastic. Plus he asked me to take test ride only on the road in-front of showroom to and fro. Didn’t allow pillion on it even when I had helmet. I have posted the same on google maps review of them. I never had such experience from any other motorcycle brand test rides. The bike is really good though.

I have praised the bike. But dealerships are representatives of the brand to the end user. It may also not be the dealership itself but that particular sales person who didn’t know how to deal with customers. But it gave me a bad experience hence shared. Deep, I have a very important question and need a solution for it. You always wear spectacle and me too. During the ride I find it very uncomfortable and to much of a hassle to wear specs with a full face mask but have to wear for protection. And because of the added weight of the camera on front of helmet it pains a lot for me on the bridge area of the chasma which presses on the top of nose. How do you manage and any solution for this? Please HELP me...

800 mm seat will force most to go to a triumph scramber 400x at 833mm hi for great leg room. Why HD did not have foot forward controls ?

The Rear End is Awful.. Looks like a commuter bike with the silencer design is also very basic.. If you really like to test new latest bikes than wld really want you to check the new JAWA Classic 334 cc with lot of improvements compared to the out going model.. Pls test that deep bhai..
