This episode is all about tracking. In 2013, we got a great buck in Maine that weighed 225 pounds. When tracking this buck, there were many examples of things to pay attention to and it was a classic deer tracking scenario. Hope you enjoy and learn something that will help your hunting. Let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions for our next video leave them in the comment section below. Thanks for watching and HAPPY HUNTING!!!

I have watched several of your videos and you guys have become my favorite on KZbin. To be that consistent in the woods of New England is not an easy feat. I love the raw footage and of course the great New England bucks. Keep it going with the good stuff! Cheers!

You mentioned about staying on tracks all the time. Let's say you're on the tracks but one of these bucks has somehow gotten behind you. Now they are on your tracks and they're realizing something is wrong. Doesn't that ruin that track because now they know while they're chasing the Doe, you're chasing them? Another idea I had was you're following a Buck and that buck is chasing a Doe or cruising looking for Does. Let's say you jump thay Buck. What do you recommend doing in case he doubles back to get a better look at you? He may make a wide swing out around you and come behind you. Is it best to stay put and hope he circles back or speed up to catch him? Should you try to veer off course and hope you can cut him off before he doubles back?

Based on your diagram the deer should have winded you. Do you normally follow tracks with the wind at your back or do you just follow tracks regardless of the wind?

When the doe was being followed by the buck's, she ran cross and down wind to perhaps loose and then keep track of their pursuit. I have to... determine where they have moved to (the group)and how far ahead they are. Deer that are used to or know they are being followed, will travel with the wind to help smell their back trail. I go where they go , but when I feel I'm getting close I generally pick up the pace to, as fast as possible... thoroughly maximizing the sighting and shooting possibilities of the situation. It can be a mistake to linger to long... up wind. Saturating the area ahead of you before you can view your quarry. The wind is a tricky thing bending, twisting , and eddying and some times your just screwed... Say ...50% of the time. Deer often will make small hooks to the left or right and that can often save the day from them smelling you. Some spots your screwed some they are ... keep rollin the dice!

Thanks for posting Rodney. Great inspiring videos for sure. One or two things that I notice is that staying on tracks like you say, especially on bare ground is so much quieter. Through the open woods and green growth. It's a lot less likely you will snap a big branch on the track. Steps are way softer. The second thing I can say as a lifetime beginner (started at age 40 in 2011) is that I saw a lot of bucks and deer my first 3 years because I was concentrating without distraction in big, low-pressured areas. I brought a sandwich, a water, a knife, map and compass. I looked ahead without any distraction. Then I got a GPS, a big hip pack, looking at sign, waypoints and location, instead of looking ahead for tracks and deer and bringing too much crap tripped me up big time. There are essentials but beginners like myself need to focus on seeing deer not the store paraphernalia. Thanks again for your awesome info.

glad your enjoying them! Thanks for all you do Kevin. You started your journey for all the right reasons and hope you don't get discouraged. The uniqueness in all people, (especially ourselves) will be the catalyst to understanding others and where they are in their walk through the world. This can and hopefully will, lead to the preservation of nature. The person who saves the world won't be some name caller, divisionary who seeks to control others. Always... wishing you well!!!!
