Good video Jeff. On the stirrup, please keep in mind that especially early in the war, cavalry soldiers in particular, came straight from home and they brought and used their tack, weapons, supplies, etc. that were used in their civilian life. This stirrup is a classic civilian style from the mid and later 1800's. I did CW cavalry reenacting for nearly 30 years and have quite a collection of saddles and other items used and a great percentage is civilian in nature. Definitely NOT like we see in the movies where everything is stamped with a big CSA and all the uniforms are alike, ha. I might suggest that you google books written by Mr. Ken R. Knopp, out of Mississippi. He is widely recognized as one of the true experts of CS saddlery and tack. He has written a few books and actually is a close friend of mine. I think his books would help you with identification of some of your dug pieces. take care.

Jeff, I cannot be certain without actually looking at it, but the 3 ringed bullet appears to be a .45/70 bullet from sometime within about a 30 year period after the CW.

Hey Jeffrey, you've got a beautiful site to dig. All the right physical features are there. Spring, with running creek, long grading slope, open fields! Sweet. Nice Stirrup! I'm no expert but looks to be a civilian style. Nice trade token as well. Your token could have been a local sutler or a camp sutler at the time. Thanks for sharing!

I read at one time that no cs or csa belt buckles existed until well into the war. Or anything else marked with the letters and then again, later in the war when the money was running out. You could possess a confederate item without knowing it. Authentication would depend upon markings and or style and shape of the object. Good Luck.

Chewing on a lead bullet.... as in maybe "biting the bullet" while having a wound worked on? I know lead is soft, easily cut with a dull knife, but why else would one chew on lead? Very interesting.

Would Love to know more about the site. I have ancestors who were Tennessee mounted infantry, Kentucky and Virginia cavalry.

Why does no one ever find buttons or buckles with human bones under them? Like a uniformed skeleton. I doubt many were buried naked.

They find a lot of WW2 soldiers that way, but 95% of civil war soldiers were buried in a cemetery.
