Thank you for the video! I really enjoy the content and it’s really helping me become a better operator! There have even been times I’ve been out and didn’t like how my road was turning out and have went to a video of yours to help me out at times while being out there! I do wish my townships would let me leave a maintenance windrow on the shoulder, I like how you always have material there when you come back the next time. Hoping it will finally turn nice here in central Mn soon to start pulling shoulders! Had a heck of a good winter plowing snow though, was out alot and really enjoy that too! And beautiful machines you have there!

Your welcome I’m happy that you enjoy the videos and that your learning from them and have helped you out I’ve never understood when some are against a maintenance windrow the good outweighs the bad I would also highly recommend reaching out to your local MNLTAP see if they have any training that you could go too I do the hands on motor grader training for my SDLTAP. Thanks for watching!

Howdy, I ran across your channel when I was looking for videos about Colton. I'm retiring from Garfield county in Oklahoma in a few months and we are moving north. There is a home in Colton that we are interested in so we're checking out the area. I've worked about 23 years combined with 3 counties. 17 years with Garfield county that I'm retiring from...about 12 years of that is a blade man. I've enjoyed watching a couple of your videos. Very informative and I look forward to seeing some more.

How many passes do you do when grading for brine?
@graderman140m2 жыл бұрын
I generally will make 2 rounds on it I cut the whole road out then relay it
@graderman140m2 жыл бұрын
I also would recommend you use a stinger bit edge system or a serrated edge that way you have loose material all across the road for the brine to go down in to the gravel

@graderman140m3 жыл бұрын
@@brandonpadget5515 as far as snow plowing goes keep your wing out of the ditch don’t drag your wing I generally try to leave an inch or 2 of snow on the roads that way you keep gravel on the roads if you have heavy drifting and you need your v plow use your plow to open road then you can widen with wing and plow also if drift is deep you have to hit it in the middle then the left then the right widening you cut as you go if you don’t you get half way in the wings on your plow will push in once you back up they will spring out cussing you to get stuck so work your way in I also turn moldboard to the left while in deep snow leave your board up and tuck it in so your not hitting any snow I will be doing a how to plow snow videos if we ever get any snow hopefully this will help you good luck and stay safe out there

I'm from South Carolina, it doesn't snow often here; but when it does I notice the county doesn't blade the snow off on gravel roads. I never understood why.😅 Merry Christmas 🎄
@graderman140m3 жыл бұрын
I can believe that it doesn’t snow often and I’m suer you don’t get more then a couple inches when it does snow we generally don’t plow our roads unless we have 5 inches or we have drifts we need to clean up

How deep do you cut?
@graderman140m3 жыл бұрын
Well that’s a tricky question there really depends on your road condition and how much gravel you have on the road in this video I cut down about an inch to remove some light washboards so I cut each side of the road and then relaid the cut material back on the road creating my 4 to 5 % crown

Thanks for all the good info Sir. I. Can you share your knowledge of blades? Looking for what you believe is the best, how long they last, do you swap sides to help with uneven wear, and how you manage wear. You know basic 101 moldboard blade maintenance. 😀😀 Thanks for any advice your willing to share and happy new year to you and yours.
@graderman140m3 жыл бұрын
I personally like the stinger rotating bits or the double carbide edges they don’t crown out i do rotate them to help offset wear every year I’ve gotten 3 to 4 years on a set of the double carbide edges and I’ve had a year on the stinger rotating bits and showing very little wear I love both setups here is a link to where I get my cutting edges from good princess equipmentblades.com/collections/carbide-curved-grader-blades equipmentblades.com/collections/bits-boards

So...........we the operators of the shop I work out of are in discussion, otherwise known as a pissin match about the types of cutting edges available for graders mainly for snow removal on paved roads............and I'm 99.31% certain I've seen one of your videos that talks about running carbide edges on your machines right, I'm not just losing my flippin mind? Because we're being told that there's 'nothing out there' besides the standard CAT cutting edge or the ice bits that are gapped, I know there are other options cuz well......Google, but it's just aggravatin that we want to figure out a better option as operators to be more efficient removing snow pack and then the people in charge act like we're asking for triangular wheels and there is no other technology available for graders.
@graderman140m3 жыл бұрын
I do run the carbide edges in the winter but I wouldn’t recommend them for the plowing hard pack on asphalt there too thick to cut much I’d recommend a regular steel or using the sharq edges or the serrated edges.
@woos313 жыл бұрын
@@graderman140m ah 10-4, good to know and thanks! We usually use the normal steels too but play hell with them cutting hard pack when it gets cold and trying to be productive without just wasting fuel doing nothing but burnin edges off.

@@graderman140m We do not use Serrated edges on Asphalt as its can and does score the Asphalt which leaves lines and can do more harm than could and due to the fact we plow on Concrete, Asphalt and Gravel all in the same day we use straight blades, use our tilting of the Moldboard to keep blade sharp and it works great !
