Great sentiment, I'm ok with culling for reasons and other necessity and although I disagree with hunting for sport, (I love the engineering of anything that fires projectiles crossbows firearms bows etc), I do understand that hunting for food is much more ethical imo than animals smelling death for hrs before being dispatched at the abattoir, I also think that everyone is entitled to their opinion if cruelty isn't involved, so kudos for your way of expressing your welcome to all. Politeness and manners cost nothing. Not enough of it nowadays, refreshing.

He was 12'8" super fun hunt and i was really stoked to get him caught in the daylight hours.... there's several more monsters up there that I'll be after this year. You've gotta keep the giants thinned out or they'll keep all the other Gators off the river...

Just for people who don't understand regulated hunting, I'll make it simple. If there are too many of one animal, a higher amounts of permits become available to keep the species population in check. If there are fewer of said animal then the amount of permits issued goes down. If species drops below carrying capacity, then they're considered endangered and you can't hunt them, and crocs happen to be waayyyy over populated

If people want to kill their own food,it's fine with me. People are so used to having food handed out the window that they forgot something died to make their meal. There is nothing more chickenshit that having someone kill your meat and then calling them names.

I totally understand your concern about the language and beer can. In no way were we out there getting drunk, acting like idiots. Those are guys who I took on a gator hunt, the guys not engaged in catching the gator had a couple of beers as they watched. As for the language, I can only say I'm sorry. Every now and then, my mouth gets the best of me and it's not professional. Please watch almost any of my other videos and you'll see that they are all clean, entertaining and educational.

Not that you were ever bad. You known what I mean. Hopefully I will get to meet you one day.

Derek Borba That's true, Derek. And if some moron chopped down one of the big sequoias because they needed some fence posts, I'd bitch about that too. It's not that I object to folks killing for food, but there's no reason to kill off the few remaining big fellas just because you want bragging rights on youtube...
@derekborba8963
@derekborba8963 9 жыл бұрын
Robert Findley I can promise you youtube has nothing to do with it. People have held pride in their trophy's before the internet. Besides, I personally believe they are performing a good service too.
@robertfindley2376
@robertfindley2376 9 жыл бұрын
Derek Borba I'll acknowledge that gator numbers have to be kept down. And given that, it's better that they be killed for food. But why the focus on killing the biggest specimen around? Elsewhere here, our host has said that he went out hunting for that particular gator. Why did the big fella have to die, just to satisfy the egos of a bunch of half-ass 'hunters' who, without their guide, would most likely have been the ones eaten? If you are hunting for food, you don't need the biggest fella in the area; a couple of 7 footers would have served just fine. And some of the self-righteous talk about government sanctioned hunting seasons being a necessary management tool are a bit ludicrous; do you really think most of those folks post comments favoring governmental oversight and regulation in ANY other context? I'm just saying people should drop the bullshit rationalizations and be straight up about what they're doing. They didn't kill this particular gator because they needed him as food, a couple of smaller ones would serve. And they aren't altruistically serving their country by making sure the government quota of dead gators is met, fighting for truth, justice and the American Way. They sought out and killed the big fella because a) that would give bragging rights for the client 'hunters', and b) that in turn put more cash in the guide's pocket. The fact that they ate him is actually incidental, because it certainly wasn't the primary reason for killing him. ..
@robertfindley2376
@robertfindley2376 9 жыл бұрын
Robert Findley Another thought occurs to me. People (including our host) keep talking about how gator numbers have to be controled. They also keep talking about how many smaller gators this big fella probably ate. Wouldn't that suggest that the best approach is to leave the big fellas alone, as they are clearly an efficient means of controlling increases in the overall population?

I appreciate what your saying but conservation is also about managing the numbers as well... By taking out a monster like that, your paving the way for numerous smaller gators to move up... very big gators are extremely cannibalistic and eat a large number of smaller gators... and, utilizing our natural resources in an ethical and sustainable way is the name of my game.

I'm just catching up to this video. I recently found and subscribed you and there many i'm still catching up to. Nice job! This was one BIG gator! I grew up everywhere between Okeechobee and Keys and noticed you said 'Lightseys' in this video. For dozens of years that has always been a great restaurant and great location. But just so you know a recent update: that property is/has been going thru some major changes with the County and ownership over the past few years and Hurricane issues. So after dozens of years they relocated mid 2016 to a property inside the city limits. They are right next door to the movie theater, on the West side of Hwy441. Around November I saw/met several of the guys from the "Swamp People" tv show there. Coincidentally it gave them a chance to upgrade and update many thing while still holding on to that very rustic heritage they had at the bridge. Just thought you'd like to know for any of your future plans.

come on kids...there are millions of these animals in the South. Gator hunting is strictly regulated to control the population. Hunters are performing a necessary task; without hunting these gators would quickly overpopulate then come into your neighborhood and eat your shih-tzus. Just because hunters appear to be having fun and they talk about beer shouldn't really matter to you.
@abbystevens5693
@abbystevens5693 6 жыл бұрын
mark joseph people got to comfortable and to far away from the truth to know it.Alligators and other animals hunted in whole world where they are otherwise will be a plague or have the animals and humans killed or their pets...due to overpopulating, some wnakes as gators in Florida are not supposed to live theemre and have no enemies beside humans,trafic or bad luck...but most times a big anount of permits are given. the gators and snakes in Florida also have ideal wheater and grow much older larger and expand their population very rapidly like mice and rats. It s needed and the hubters on this channel use allmost every part of these animals and they were totally free till they got hunted. So no cages or unnatural food , water and land plus food in abundance. I think most people complaining don t ever think about the meat in butchershops or supermarkets further then wanted to eat nice tasting meat...they mosyly even eat meat from europe where due to not enough room in The Netherlands the meat you eat even MC Donalds uses imported Dutch meat. The cows in most stables never see grass or walk on it. spend their days indoors on easy to clean floors that arent mostly solid or free of feaces and urine from themselves or their neighbour cows...they havd ulcers due to the undaniyaey ground in which they akso lay to sleep if they have bad luck to not be on a farm where they take notice and provide clean stables to stand and sleep. The hooves are rotten away and are kept as good as can be bjt stull they suffer of rotten hooves ans deep ulcers or painfull debilitating unable to stand without constant pain due to skin deseases that go even into the inner parts of their hooves. It s heartbreaking to know that a very large amount of farmerd with cows have a very big/large amount of cows per stable/farm. We have a shortage in amount of land thats not build upon with housing and companies and they are trying to fund farmers to shrink their hurd so they can be healthy again. It doesn t go against the meat quality but it is not a good thing for the cows and they suffer. I d rather buy from a hunter, we slso have wildlife like deer or scottisch cows on pafks and woods, wild horses eyc etc. their population is controled by hunting permits and food and health services. They wont give a permit if it s not so that the species is not in good enough population to survive. They only get the permits for set amount of animals per specie and use the earnt money from taxes to sustain the wildlife and their space that s sparce to take care and protect their living areas and school the kids on being good and caring for nature.

I like the way you guys kill these gators! No shooting it multiple times and putting it through unnecessary pain. Honestly I feel like this is a lot more "humain" than rifle-hunting deer or any other way of hunting since you'll always get the kill shot with the bang stick. It's really interesting seeing your videos since I'm from Northern Minnesota and see gators only in zoos haha. Great videos!

Wow. I'm going to try to explain this in the simplest terms, so just maybe you can understand. No, justifying alligator hunting does NOT amount to an endorsement of cannibalism. It's really not that complicated. Millions of alligators, limited habitat. Without taking out a few of them, they overpopulate to the point that their limited habitat can no longer feed them. By taking out a relative few, the alligator population, AND the animals they prey on, remain at healthy levels. And no, humans are NOT overpopulated. That's a MYTH. Have we intruded on wildlife habitat? Yes. That's undeniable. You, me, EVERYBODY on Earth lives where wildlife of some kind once lived. But we are NOT "overpopulated". Every person on Earth could fit inside the state of Texas, with room to spare. It's been calculated, look it up. Basically, hunting alligators = good. NOT hunting them = problems. Get it?

This is dumb, they are overpopulated but they are hunting these gators out of the wild so how the fuck does that have to do with it, I'd see if it was in a house or a public place but it's in the wild. 2nd what was your little ass doing that close to gator, where were your parents and why did they let their child close to an animal capable of killing a person, so it's not the gators fault that y'all would be so dumb to get close to it.
