Why would you shoot at it facing straight away from like that? I know she’s not pulling a 90lbs bow it wouldn’t have the power to pull that shot off. Bad choices all around. Should’ve waited for a better shot. I’d expect that shot from a kid but not an experienced hunter. I wouldn’t have posted this.

This is Sarah. I explained it on camera but it didn’t make it in the video… I was over confident taking that shot. I should have waited and I should have been patient. That buck came in sprinting, I drew and when he picked his head up I thought he was going to bolt again. I wanted Robert to post this because it’s a humbling experience and I want other people to learn from my mistakes. Nobody in this comment thread can kick me more than I kicked myself. If I was a new hunter I would have never taken that shot, I have experience and thought I could make it happen. Huge mistake and huge lesson learned. No matter how much you hunt that still doesn’t mean you can take shots at that angle. I’m ashamed of myself, I’m not ashamed that this video is out there for other people to learn from. I picked myself up and after a hard hunting season, I brushed off the dirt and redeemed myself in Oklahoma.

My heart sunk when my brother who was over here, and I saw the shot. We BOTH immediately knew it was going to be trouble. Sunk AGAIN when the dogs failed!? @@ericcapps8356 She didn't shoot at the hip. She was lined up on the ribcage, but the angle for her wasn't great. The glowie is the back end of the arrow and that is near the hip, but the arrow looks like it got caught in a couple ribs. There is a lot of shaft that never even went into the deer. Had the deer presented a bit more of a broadside for her, she'd probably have gotten it.

False. I understand we lose deer but she should not have taken that shot. That was a terrible quartering away shot with a very light draw weight bow. That deer will most likely die in a few days and it would have suffered the entire time because she was not patient. When you shoot a low weight bow, you need broadside shots for a complete pass through. That was liver and guts.

You’re both true to this lifestyle and way of living! I know without a doubt even like you said if you didn’t believe in that shot you wouldn’t have took it. You didn’t take it out on the animal or your future hunts and I think that shows true love, care and compassion for these beautiful creatures we have the privilege to hunt for our nourishment! As soon as we deviate from our training..... That's when you start having problems.... That arrow is probably embedded in the hide just outside of the rib cage.... That was not even a quarter away shot.... You know it and I know it you got to wait until that deer broadsides for you... Arrow placement is so important..... See what happens when you don't have patience. This butcher told me that 7 out of 10 elk have arrow scars or the arrow is still embedded in the elk when the next hunter shoots it... This is why.... Inexperienced people hoping for the best shooting an animal too close to dark.... Taking a poor shot... Try and learn from ope other people's experience.
@tedanderson463
@tedanderson463 9 ай бұрын
Next time get a tracker out there and have him find it for you or get the drone out.... Maybe you did get a tracker... And maybe you did use a dog....... Think about this..... If you were with somebody that had a GPS.... That was knowledgeable about the general area.... That had experience in night tracking.... Remembering that a deer's eyes glow in the dark.... And now there's other reasons and ways that I don't even know about how about infrared... How about trying to drive the deer back towards you somehow. I really feel sorry for the elk....... with people that just shoot right into the herd hopefully trying to strike an elk in the vital area.... It's just not going to happen very often .....what a waste of time.... And like I said some people will just shoot right into the herd of elk.... They all take off running.... Are you going to keep track of which one got hit.... Please tell me how you're going to do that..... I know you would never do that right .....,???? .....but still. That kind of stuff goes on because of inexperience and impatience. Somebody will shoot an animal too close to dark and you're supposed to wait 20 minutes before you track it.... Now how are you going to do that and still make it back to your car or truck and still be safe out there in the wilderness.... Pitch Black.... Possible bad weather.... Possible disorientation get lost.... Panic... Hypothermia... Dehydration... Total exhaustion even if you do find the animal.... With a big elk like that.,. where it falls ....that's where you're going to be cutting it up.... Are you going to make 8 or 10 different trips to the animal back to your truck back to the animal in pitch black dark.... Never should you try and harvest an animal too close to dark... There are some exceptions if you have lots of help and lots of LED lights. And you had a relatively close shot and the animal dropped.

(Didn’t know any better.) I ended up getting it later that season, but didn’t know that was it. My uncle got half the meet from that deer and called to let me know there was a rifle bullet in its back quarter. Which let me Know, that was it that I tried to take down before. I learned a valuable lesson there, as we all do. Patients is key, in every situation.

Had it not deflected off a rib like it did, we never would have found it, as it would have been a high hit. I got lucky and mine was nearly broadside. I can see the shot you tried was a kill shot, but I was taught to wait for a better angle. I think he lived.

Love what you're doing. Wished so hard you could have waited for a broadside shot. Best of luck on the next one.

You win some you lose some. A lot of times in hunting you only have a few seconds to decide. When you've been hunting hard and finally have an opportunity. Its hard to pass. I would've taken the shot too.

Sarah , i was first like wow why did she taken that shot she knows betterbut i read your response to a comment and relized its easy to judge someone expecially when your not in there situation. It doesn't matter how experienced one is were all humens we all makes mistakes there was alot of emotions going also hunting as hard an as long as you been . What matters is you owned up to your mistakes and didnt hide the video you posted it and showed an emotional hard hunt that ended in a way no one wanted . I applaud you for posting an owning up to your mistakes an i also apologize for starting to judge you on that shot . Your a true hunter a wonderful wife , mother, person , a godly woman and thats what you should be judged on . Ty for this video an ty for being true to yourself an to us . God bless

Back 33 years ago when i started bow hunting, i was taught to paper tune your bow, so fixed broadheads would fly straight like a field point. Your shot taken with a fixed blade would have past completely through causing a massive blood trail, when expandable broadheads came out, i gave them a try and it cost me a few deer, they just dont have the bone cutting capabilities like fixed blades when using lower draw weights most people use 59lb to 70. Learn to paper tune your bow and shoot a good quality fixed blade 90 to 100 grains for deer. Eric in Jupiter 😊

Thanks for the tips, but I do shoot a fixed 100 grain broadhead and was just at the shop with my bow…

You put the time in for 3 weeks straight and it's unfortunate but deer are tough animals and sometimes their will to live is just to strong. You'll get the next time
