Be patient, and have fun being in the outdoors. You will be discouraged, and learn lessons the hard way.. Unless you take the young bucks. They're dumb, but good eatin.

@@Daniel08353 Just have fun. It will be hard 99.9 % of the time unless you're in a critter-rich environment or you have a guide. If you're hunting private land download oNx Huni app you'll thank me later. I harvested Nice old bucks every year since I've had it. Get into hunting with Air rifles for small & medium games as it will get you lots of practice. I now only hunt with small and big bore air guns. Arrow guns and Bow hunt. Haven't hunted with a powder burner in 4 years. I use my .72 caliber for big game and it's like shooting metal ashtrays that crumble the animal on its tracks every time. It's a huge slug. What's nice is it's legal to use suppressors on airguns so you can most of the time harvest two animals right next to each other because they never know what hits them. I wish Rob would start using Airguns for big game. I do get that they are more expensive in the start-up cost but it would give him more of a challenge and make for great content. I believe it's the future of hunting. They're already replacing .22 rimfires for small and medium game. Anyway, good luck, remember to have fun. Get a dog if you can. a hunting companion makes the world of difference. My Lab has saved my life from bears 3 times now. Rob

Great story Rob. I hunted waterfowl for 30 years in MS & my favorite part of hunting was watching a good dog work. In fact the last couple of years, I seldom shot & just enjoyed working Shelby who had an unbelievable nose. I could write a book about some of her amazing retrieves. I had to sell my farm/hunting property due to a severe disability in 2015. I missed the dog work so much that 5 years ago, I bought another lab (Finn) to train. For the past 4 years he has been my best friend & my reason for moving forward. We go outside everyday rain or shine to work on retrieving & play. I always hide several bumpers just to watch his nose work all the while Finn's tail is a blur from wagging so fast. It brings tears & smiles at the same time as the memories of great dogs, family, friends, great hunts & the fellowships come flooding back. In fact I'm smiling & tearing up as I watch the dog in your video & the memories flood my mind. Thx for what you do.

There is tons of resources that are out there for us who are either physically unable to move about in the woods or wheelchair bounded. If you're in Texas, they have archery adaptive hunts too. If there is a will there's a way. I hope y'all will get to go back to hunting soon.

Rob, I just started making biscuits perfectly with the easiest recipe, you should try. 2 parts self-rising flour, 1 part heavy cream. Stir it together you might have to adjust with a little more cream. Fold the dough over a few times, pat it down with your hands, and cut out your biscuits. Cook in a 450 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes. They come out awesome, and they're super easy to make. BTW, them Cur dogs are awesome.

Take someone hunting today. I spent 21 years in the Army and 11 of those years were out of country. I never shot a 4 legged animal until I was in my 50's. I didn't have a father growing up and never had someone willing to teach me. Now at 63 I have antlers everywhere with a freezer full of meat and perform as a volunteer guide on the largest military installation in the free world. It's all about friendship and the experience. I want to thank Rod and Philip for all the guidance over the years.

wOw.....that dog had great skills. The hit looked good in the video when I played it back, but that white hair indicated brisket. Then when the dog hit the creek....i was thinking ...game over. What a great job that dog did to find the crossing point. You can see them finish the deer that jumped up just to the right of screen. Glad you found him! Hate to see a wounded critter not recovered. It does happen sometimes, but the dog made that one a recovery instead!! And you hit the nail on the head....hunting is not about the kill....its so much larger than that. The hunting buddies, the experience, knowing where your food comes from and exactly what you have on your table! Its completing the circle.
