Loved this movie when I was in middle school. I remember on the dvd commentary the director or Spade said that Kid Rock's line was adlibbed. I think Def Leppard wasn't too amused by it either despite it being just a joke.

Just read an interview from Spade, it wasn’t in the script but he told Kid Rock to say it. Then they had to call Def Leopard’s manager and explain that it was the bad guy saying it to the good guy who loved them. And so they agreed to let it be in the film

Backstory behind that line, it was actuallt David Spade's idea to include that line. He actually explained to someone on the Def Leppard management team I convinced my co-star to yell "Def Leppard Sucks!", he's the bad guy, but the guy who likes them is the good guy. From there he got their blessing and the rest is history.
