I'm going on my 4th year of learning electric guitar (I'm 54). After 41 years this song is still one of my very favorites. I am finally able to play it!!¡ I didn't say I could keep up with it (yet) but I can play it. It is one of the coolest feelings in the world! The smile on my face is huge. Thank you Steve for being such an amazing guitar player and a bad a$$ influence on rock music!! 🎸

Priceless! I first saw Leppard open for Nugent in 1980. We all bought those black World Tour t-shirts. I don't think a day went by for the next 5 years that one of us wasn't wearing that shirt! I probably saw them 30 more times in the 80's. I've been exposed to a lot of great music in the last 25 years but I whenever I listen to On Through the Night and High N Dry it still sounds great. I'm sure we've all moved on musically but man was this wonderful music to grow up with. RIP Steve.

Great hard rock band that released 2 LP's worth listening to, first 2. Then they became MTV darlings, poured sugar all over their music and became CACA. Best tune: Wasted. Saw them open for JPriest on their 1st US tour, 79' and could relate to kids on stage rockin' their asses off. That nite after the show, met Pete while at a rock bar (The Old Buffalo- El Paso, TX), he was getting a pack of smokes from a machine, went up to him n chatted him up, very cool lad. Still have these 2 vinyls \m/

I was just 11 when my friends and I did Wasted in an air band skit for our middle school talent show! It was awesome, for being 1979 and the girls went nuts even for just an air band show. We had the guitars and drums and mike just like the vid! Just awesome for being back then.

This was the first song I learned on guitar in '81, most ppl don't know about the " ON THROUGH THE NIGHT" album, They open for squire in 83 and closed that your head lining San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. That's when they blew up; this is before Mutt Lang .. Vivian Campbell played with Dio back in those days and did for years, I think DF holds back his chops.

The 70s brought me here. Well technically, being born in the late 60s and surviving this long has. But the 70s had awesome music. If watching an episode of Snoopy bangs Hong Kong Phooey. Or playing a game brought you here, fantastic, at least ya know what great music is. Though I will say, I never heard of DL until the 80s..

Believe me when I say that back in 80 when this album first came out it WAS NOT a failure, all of us into metal/rock had this album. Leppard along with Maiden, Saxon, Priest etc.... were leading the charge as far as the NWOBHM went. I saw them at the Oxford Apollo back in March/April 80 and they were 'kin Brilliant.

I saw these guys open for Blackfoot in Denver at the old Rainbow. It was a double show and Blackfoot screwed them by having them open the first show at 7:00 and then close the second show at about midnight. They were royally pissed off but played an incredible second show anyway! I wish they had stayed with the harder rock of their first album but I don't think they have any regrets!

It's so interesting to listen to old Def Leppard and the Di'Anno Iron Maiden and listen to how similar they were back in the day, and how differently they progressed. The biggest tragedy was Rick's arm... people blame the move toward "album-oriented rock" as what changed their sound but the accident definitely limited their sound. Def Leppard turned from your band to your sister's band in only a few short years.
@bootsconnell719
@bootsconnell719 11 ай бұрын
I don't see that as a problem or a tragedy. All bands have to adapt and reinvent as musical tastes and trends are ever changing. It would be pretty sad if a band just stuck to one formulaic sound forever.

I seen these guys do this song at Cleveland stadium in July of 1980. It was funny because they were a metal band when they started and were the only metal band there that day. The other bands there were Eddie Money, J Geils band, and Bob Seger as the headliner. What a contrast. Being a 70's hard rock/heavy metal 17 year old, I was lovin it.
