Def Leppard's Wasted, recorded and directed in 1979 by me. This is not a final edit but a rough cut from a number of takes, so it is not really the finished product.

Steve Clark's role in Def Leppard went on LONG after his death. The original Demo for "When Love and Hate Collide" was done primarily by him. He was called the "Riftmaster" by his band mates for a reason. The Thunder God, however, was probably influenced by the insane amount of performers he was exposed to as a young man. I mean, come ON, he opened for AC/DC on his 16th birthday! Even so, Rick Allen's skill never lost its touch. Once again, Def Leppard is like no other band. Rock On.

Man ... One of my first experiences of a "what happened to them" moment with a band whom I loved or one of my first tastes of one of my beloved bands COMPLETELY changing and commercializing their sound was Def Leppard. To this day, their first 2 records I hold in high regard and still spin on my turntable from time to time. The Clarke/Willis lineup. I adore those records. Then Collin replaced Willis and Pyromania hits. I felt, I dunno....betrayed is a strong word because it's an okay record, just had a ton of pop gloss added. I stuck with them through it...even saw them in '83. But they lost me once Hysteria hit and they ceased to even remotely resemble the band that dropped my jaw with On Through the Night. The major majority top-40 sector of radio/mtv music consumers loved it....and the bands bank accounts loved it even more but, I think they abandoned the fans that had bought in and gotten them to that point. Big difference between the type of listener who likes High n Dry (die hard music fans, a bands lifeblood) and Hysteria fans (fickle and come only to hear the anthem to strip clubs everywhere, "Pour Some Sugar On Me"). BIG difference.

The first heavy metal song i heard back in early 80s. I was just graduated from elementary school, saved my money to buy their record. Im 52 now and still huge fan of DL.

Early Leppard was very unique and raw. Say what you will about the later stuff, these boys could write a hook!

This Def Leppard tune never receives any AirPlay! It’s been lost in the shuffle! The last time I heard this was in 1980 when I bought the cassette and jammed out in my 1976 Pontiac Trans Am.

They look like The Sweet trying to sound like Di' Anno's Iron Maiden. That really Rocks!

They are influnced by Sweet, another favourite band of me. They later covered 'Action'.

I saw these guys around this time in 1981 when I was 15 opening up for Ozzy on the Blizzard tour .2 big takeaways I remember from this concert the first was not only how good Def was but how young they were .does anyone realize Rick Allen is just 16 about to turn 17 when this video was shot ? (just before I saw them in Sep 81) they were all under 21 except Joe .and secondly how great Randy Rhoads was for Ozzy

I saw them on that tour in Maine.Aug.of '81. They energy was like puppies that just got let out of their pen to play.😊 And Randy.Geezus.I wasn't even sure what I was witnessing was real.He was awesome. We were lucky to see them all at that point in their careers.👍 Rock on!🤟🎶🎸🥁🔥

@@jeffhodge7272 Yeah I kno exactly what you meant about Randy lol I was like in a trance not able to take my eyes off him the whole set .Ozzy was jumping up and down just clapping his hands constantly but it's a wonder I ever even saw him at all .everything Randy was doing was like you said didn't seem possible .and I had already seen Eddie twice before this and I SWEAR TO GOD .didn't impress me half as much as Randy did .and Rhoads stage presence was like nothing any other musician I've ever witnessed .he was like a Rockstar from another planet .Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix were the only two that ever came close to commanding the stage like that .seriously make no mistake about it Rhoads was the main attraction in that band and that show.

i LOVE the early Leppard sound. They should make a retro sounding album!

Suscribed, because you just give us a real gift. This song is probably my best heavy Def Leopard's song!
