DEF red light truck doesnt start

how to fix def red light truck won't start problems. i am gonna explain a couple things we did to get us going for now and at the end of the video i explain what the real problem is. If you do a hard reset make sure you dont turn off the truck until you get to a safe place where you can fix it , the truck might not start again.

Good video Sir, I had a 2015 Cascadia a few years ago do the same thing to me at a truckstop in ohio. Always wondered what the problem was with that DEF red light etc. Company got soaked for repair bills on it.

I liked your video and I'm not here to argue with you, but I call the fuse line from the dealership BS. Same thing happened to me on my 2016. Pulled all the glove box fuses, checked the fuses and relays under the hood drivers side box over the fender, all fine. Put it on the laptop with the DDEC diagnostic link. No evident codes, no failed components, just a bunch of communication issues with the main gateway. My CPC is 3 years old. I reloaded the software into everything off the server, but I left the CPC alone and didn't reflash it. Red light went out, all my green lights for DEF tank level back ( it's close to full ). So, if I had a blown fuse, I wouldn't have been able to fix it. I still don't really trust it. I put the truck down for the day and I'm heading in shortly to keep pecking at it. A few people mention the ELD monkeying with things too, ( I run a PeopleNet tablet ) and I'm wondering if when it tries to communicate with the ECM on startup, it throws something off. For the rest of you, my PNDB, and SAM chassis are both less than a year old, voltages healthy.

I had the same issue, PNDB module was giving low voltage to the fuses, make sure to check fuse voltage, fuses was giving me 5v or less, I applied 12v to fuses and it worked.

Same thing here Towed to Freghtliner Cincinnati They changed the fuses and it started like never had an issue, but when ELD cable connected red engine light comes on… Will try to upload the invoice with details…

If the def light is flashing and it won't crank or it starts up but has zero throttle response (Only on a freightliner with a Detroit.) And its not the fuse to the cpc its the cpc itself. So far 5 out of 5 times I had a bad cpc4. Usually no codes. One time a had one throwing different codes randomly. It had me going around testing all kinds of things and then gave me codes for all the injectors being bad. (engine ran perfect) That's how I knew for sure the CPC was bad. What happens is the CPU on the CPC4's printed circuit board loses connection and in my opinion its heat that kills them. Also if you're driving and you lose the speedometer for a split second it's usually an early sign of the CPC going bad.

Had this issue along with the ABS light and red triangle. Turns out it was my CPC4 which is on national backorder. I found a mechanic who had some available in Bakersfield, Ca. Cost me $5500 due to the lack of availability. ☹

I had the same problem , took it to freightliner ( labor rate $200hr 😢) it turned out to be the cpc controller pin 47 ! They had to replace it !

Is just a think that if it was a fuse you couldn’t reset the computer and make your truck run again ,maybe I wrong is just a thought

Just had this same issue, it was the cpc4. Cost me $800 to get it refurbished. 99% of the time, if your having these same symptoms it is the cpc4!

Ok so I'm having the same issue, the red blinking light with the ABS light, engine cranks but it doesn't start, its giving me code SPN 639 FMI 9. In conclusion, is it the CPC module?

@Muxamed Cali moved the main relay on the fuse box, it was loose. I have a Cummings motor

@thangbo1 yes, mine has a Cummins engine therefore no cpc module. The relays and fuse box on the engine was replaced

Freightliner said they replaced the main cab fuse inside the dash board which is hard to believe but thats all they did but honestly when you take it out its gonna turn off all the power inside your cab including the dashboard i think that only resets your DEF light because a couple weeks later it did the same thing again but, this might help you out if you are just trynna get some where or it might work for a couple of weeks like it did on my truck. A fuse? Ahh I've been having similar issues with my freightliner, def light blink and accelerator wont work. I keep hearing it may be the famous CPC4 problem, or the ECM. I cant tell anymore. Been a year and still cant find the problem.

My truck is doing the same. Truck turns on but def light blinking red. No codes. I disconnect batteries for 10 minutes and no more red blinking def light. I come back 2 hours later and def light blinking red again. You think it's def header or cpc4?
