90 hardtop owner here, approaching year two and it’s been faultless. Don’t believe all you read, I’m delighted with mine and will be getting another when the contract hire is up. Mine on steels and only has two options, 3rd seat and winter pack. Wonderful machine that drives beautifully.

Who would buy it?….a well paid vet! Loaded and very nice but few will ever have that many options. Now I’m a retired old man who likes mountain walking, doing loads of jobs, has few relatives and not many friends but craves adventure…maybe this van is the one for me!!! …practical, no passengers, all the good bits so yes..get me the keys!!! Hi all, just an update on the van, covered 10k miles now and not a single issue, didn’t even need to go in to the dealer for the v3 software, loaded automatically with no issues. Only saying as you only seem to hear about the ones with issues

@@oldcargeezer yes I now own a defender commercial, a canceled order so I got lucky, iv ordered a second one for my business now , so grenadier lost 2 sales from my company, 1 from you and I would imagine 100s more once people realised you can’t run it as a business vehicle . Congrats on your new channel; love to see your work expanded. Now, to LR: Oy! Thumbs down on this slap-dash excuse for a van. Should be a 2-door with no side glass (smooth metal finish around) and a double split rear door, windows ok there, if they must. Put the tire on the roof and let that be that. It can’t hold much anyway but this oddity is plain amateurish, lacking even the pretense of “design”. Can you tell I don’t like it?! Lol

I take it that the quoted prices include VAT. Almost all van buyers will reclaim the VAT element one way or another as at this level of price they will almost certainly be VAT registered in the UK and most of Europe. The convention is and always has been to quote commercial vehicle prices without the VAT element, which is quoted separately. 'Price + VAT' if you prefer. Also since it is a van, is it a car derived van? It probably is, so it should escape the lower commercial van speed limits on all but motorways.

Yes the prices on the LR website are inc VAT but as you say most commercial buyer will be reclaiming the VAT element

@@simonjefferson3376 They really are clueless at their marketing department to publish VAT inclusive prices. Everything, including all options and accessories for this vehicle are deductible.

You can pay a lot less than this, The 90 HT starts at £51,000 and the 110 at £59,000 including VAT They are well specified as standard. Ask yourself if you will ever use a locking rear diff, adjustable ride height etc and whether you need £2,000 of alloys on a van. The D250 is all you will ever need, do you need 300hp in a van?

That trapdoor rear floor is so unpractical in a van, you’d have to move everything every time you want to get anything out of it! Mind you,If I could afford a van like this I’d not have many tools in it, just my safe 😂😂😂 I’m in love with it

l can lift the trap door on mine with four large tool boxes still on top of it. l fitted a stay, to hold it up while l put things in or out of the under floor compartment as it won't stay open with weight on top.

Looks very smart, would have thought though that LR would have fitted more lighting in the rear. Tha Alpine windows do make a massive difference during a nice bright sunny day but at night it looks like there's very little lighting apart from at the front by the doors.

Yes this is one drawback of the new Defender - the rear loadspace lighting is not great

Yes the bulkhead easily removed and you can also fit aftermarket fold flat seats.

Simon, do you know how those rear window guards are held in place? I wonder if they can be purchased through LR and added to an SE model for protection in the cargo area of my 110. Also, kind of liked that storage under the floor in the back as a retro fit. Always love your videos!

Hi Simon - On the Car and I assume the HT is the same - the D300 has bigger brakes which means the smallest tyre is 19" - you can with a caliper change fit 18" wheels..

Simon & co, do you know if the interior ‘blanking panels’ over the rear windows are removable or, more importantly, retrofittable to non-commercial vehicles? I’ve got a normal 110 and the rear windows aren’t much use, would rather replace them with a panel which I can put some storage nets/maybe some switches etc into, to create a sort of “utility wagon” as was available with the ‘original’ defender puma models.

So the 110 'Van' does have the option of air suspension? Does it ride like the regular version? Or is it harder riding even with the air suspension cause maybe it has higher load capacity?

No good if you want to put living livestock in the back as there appears to be no opening window/ventilation or aircon in the load space. Would have to spoil the looks of your luxury off-road van by fitting one or two of those rooftop rotating vents. Especially with the black roof I would imagine the load space gets pretty hot very quickly.

Are the front seats limited in travel due to the bulkhead behind them? The old Defenders with the half height bulkhead or truck cab had terribly hobbled seat travel and backrest tilt compared to the old 110 station wagons [which had inadequate second row legroom]

There seemed to be plenty of room and the rear bulkhead is sloped backwards to give you more seat room.

Yes it can, takes about 30 minutes but needs two people to lift it out.

It’s fixed on a surround sound speaker bracket, stuck with double sided tape to under the dash, bit cobbled together but does the job. Looks better when the phone is in place as it’s roughly the same height as the pivi screen.

I would be surprised if LR limited the actual attainable speed of the vehicle on lower speed rating tyres. Usually cars are limited by law to the tyre speed rating but there is nothing stopping the driver exceeding the limit. That's the same as road speed limits where it is obviously up to the driver to drive, not to exceed the limit. However, with today's technology they would certainly be able to limit a vehicle's top speed. Do they though? One would hope not.

Ah my Land Rover owning career, lets see I have owned and driven throughout my life, a LR Series 2A, a Series 3, a Series 3A, a 110 County wagon, a 200 TDI Discovery 2 door, a TDI 300 Defender Ute and Discovery 4 door, another 2 x 300TDI dual cab utes, a TD5 Dual cab Ute, a TD5 Discovery, a TD5 Discovery classic, another TD5 Dual Cab Ute, a Discovery 3 V6 DSL, another two Defender 4 cylinder dsl utes and finally I purchased one of the very last batch of Defender Dual Cabs in 2015. How many million Kms I have driven in all those I have no idea, but I average about 60-70 thousand Kms per year. But no I have not owned or driven a new defender, other than a quick test drive, but i dont need to. For a start all that lovely plastic trims and flaps under it, the gravel will blast that off in under twenty thousand Kms, they dont make utes anymore FFS, you cannot fit a bull bar, so what happens when I hit a few big red Roos at 100 kms an hour with no bar, the Tow Bar is rubbish how can I fit any thing serious to that? Look no disrespect but its a poser Chelsea tractor, OK if you want to run a few parcels around on bitumen roads and occasionally need to get out of a wet MacDonalds car park. One trip over the Simpson and it will have dragged its arse over every sand dune and tore off every thing under the car, I know I did it in the Disco 3 and same result. If I want a nice looking, nice driving 4WD to skip up and down the HWY in, yeah a new defender would be Ok and I can can go and get some mud on it on saturdays. But hook it up to clutch start a truck or tractor, tow a dead bullock down the back paddock, drive at 100kms an hour over a thousand kms of out back road, its useless.

@@dalane5196I repair appliances and machinery. l have to admit that my off road driving is limited to farm access and fields l am with you though on your comments above. l wouldn't take a new Defender into the bush. l would take either the old model, or our 2020 Suzuki Jimny (The new Jimny is in my opinion what Land Rover should have done with the Defender, except bigger of course) l did 90,000 miles in my 2005 Defender. l would have bought a Grenadier but it's not listed as a Commercial Vehicle in my country so l couldn't put it through my business. The new Defender is a great vehicle for my needs. lt wouldn't do for your needs though. l think Land Rover have left that market, sadly.
