A quick look around my Land Rover Defender Farriers Truck.
I bought this instead of the Nissan which I never really got on with.
The back was purpose built by N & J Aluminium Linings Ltd.

I took my shear, welded it to a 2" piece to go into my trailer hitch. I can shear 1/4,5/16.0r 3/8 shoe stock quickly and easily. Nice rig. I'm retired, having started shoeing in 1965.....Phew-time flies when you're having fun.. enjoy your blacksmithing videos. I still spend a couple of hours a day making little gifts etc. for friends.

I wish our hitches worked the same way as yours, it is such a useful socket that could be utilised for lots of things, as you have found, but our hitches are generally fixed to a plate permanently or a factory fitting which is difficult to adapt for anything else! Enjoy your retirement, you deserve it !

I'm unfamiliar with Stellite and it's application. You mentioned in conjunction with the addition of the top plate and to the bick. Could you elaborate on that a bit? Love your unpretentious approach to your videos. Keep it up!

+Glenn Wiebe "Stellite alloy is a range of cobalt-chromium alloys designed for wear resistance. It may also contain tungsten or molybdenum and a small but important amount of carbon. It is a trademarked name of the Kennametal Stellite Company and was invented by Elwood Haynes in the early 1900s as a substitute for cutlery that stained (or that had to be constantly cleaned).Typical applications include saw teeth, hardfacing, and acid-resistant machine parts. Stellite was a major improvement in the production of poppet valves and valve seats for the valves, particularly exhaust valves, of internal combustion engines. By reducing their erosion from hot gases, the interval between maintenance and re-grinding of their seats was dramatically lengthened. The first third of the M2HB machine gun and M60 machine gun barrels (starting from the chamber) are lined with Stellite. The locking lugs and shoulders of Voere Titan II rifles were also made of Stellite. In the early 1980s, experiments were done in the United Kingdom to make artificial hip joints and other bone replacements out of precision-cast Stellite alloys. It is also widely used for making the cast structure of dental prostheses."If you google it there is loads of info on it's uses and different forms

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I look forward to your clips since your farrier background provides a different perspective to your blacksmithing. I, too, am a blacksmith, albeit a very amateur one. I have made many knives but only in the last couple of years have branched out into the wonderful world of the art of hammering hot steel. Thanks again. Keep up the good work and I pray your hand heals completely.

After driving a Land Rover in some really harsh places in Aruba, I wanted one, but they are impossible to find in the US. I would rather have a diesel model, which is even more rare...and I'm not rich. Anybody knows how to find these in the US, I need to know. Thanks, Gary for making me even more jealous! Cheers, Chris.

Cactus Makeshop I didn't realise that diesel vehicles were so hard to come by in the US. Mind you, if our fuel was as cheap as yours I would have a massive V8 gas guzzler, I just love the noise! I used to have a V8 Land Rover when I was young with a very loud pipe, I just loved it!

30 to the gallon with all that weight in it is MASSIVELY impressive. Do you get any trouble from filling stations over the Gas cylinder?
