Defensive Gear to Make Yourself a Harder Target in Times Like These
There is gear and equipment that can give you a better chance in a dangerous environment. Here I share some covert and overt options.
Becoming a harder target could be the difference of your survival. If self defense is part of your preparedness plan, consider what options are available to you and what scenarios they would work in. Being an overtly hardened target could create issues while maintaining discretion decreases capability. Hopefully this video just gave you some ideas or options to consider when trying to ensure you survive an event.
You need access to first aid equipment above all else due to its likelihood of use. Refuge Medical First Aid Equipment: shorturl.at/exCFK

Almost a month ago I was reminded the value of a ifak. I have an advanced ifak in my sling bag that I carry with me everyday. I ride a motorcycle, and as I was going to work one morning, I saw a fellow biker that had been hit by a SUV. So I pulled over and assessed hit wounds. (I do have medical training, used to be a surgical tech also) he had a below knee amputation and some broken ribs. As he had a spurter I cut his pants and applied a tq to the wounded leg. He was starting to show early signs of shock, and by the time the tq was tight, the emts arrived. I gave a quick report and scooted on to work. Last I heard they were able to save the leg. But had to give him 8 units of blood.

Remember that gear without training and skills is just free gear someone will loot off your dead body. For example, if you struggle as long as he did in this video to take the Sig out of the backpack you'll die because you didn't get in the fight fast enough. Hahah awesome video, man. Love the channel.

And when you get the IFAK, get an EMT Basic book. That will cover the majorty of potential SHTF medical scenarios that you'll realistically be able to treat. You're not going to dart a chest and get someone to surgery or ICU, but you can learn a legit splint. Also, in real world, youll need a shit load of gloves when dealing w trauma, so get more of those as the pair in the IFAKs may break when you put them on.

Every day use situational awareness. I go without armor. That is just my moto. Rather give up the minor protection for being able to carry more. Ever been hit with a heavy caliber round with 3A or 4 plate.? Get ready to suck wind and puking down on your knees. In addition like you were saying so many people have AP rounds. Buckshot 9 pellet or 15 pellet waist down takes everyone out. Yeah. I understand that you have a better chance with armor. But weighed the weight and decided to go with mobility and having extra weight capability. Just my mind set.

Meanwhile in Yemen, a bunch of guys in flip flops and “dresses”, have only old Chinese SKS bandoliers, canteens and dirty AKs, while wreaking havoc on the well geared Saudi military. I’m a gear guy as well,but I think sometimes we get too focused on accessories and Gucci gears. I’ve done training with guys with 5K rifles, who were very poor shooters and even worse tacticians. Not knocking it, because I’m guilty of it as well; just think we should start emphasizing training and fitness, as paramount. If you have those covered, by all means, buy all the extra shit you want.

I would submit to you that police aren't as good with their weapons as they should be. I watch several at a range I go to. They show up to dump the required 100 rounds a month. They do that in about 10 minutes, then BS with their buddies for an hour, and go home. If they were trained enough to let their training take over, that would have ended much differently. But I do agree with the quote, "Your handgun is to fight your way to the rifle you should have never walked away from". Great job on this video.

I'm stopping for a moment while you're repeating about plates. My understanding and the reason I set my carrier up the way I did is that a 3+ plate (steel) is the better option over a 4 ceramic. So since most likely you'd take a round in the front, I put the 3+ in the front for both, mine and my wife's carriers. I put the 4 ceramic in the rears. I haven't yet bought side plates, because measurements seem a bit ambiguous. I'm not sure if mine will hold a 6X8 or exactly what it can hold. Anyway, that's my understanding. My steel, although not the brand itself is AR500, the 4s, I'm not sure. I bought the 4s from LA Police Gear and the fronts from MidwayUSA. Okay, now back to the video.
@MagicPrepper
@MagicPrepper 11 ай бұрын
So the III+ steel is better for multiple hits but the ceramic will stop more powerful rounds. I went full ceramic for the weight savings and the avoidance of spall which can be a real issue with steel. But I am glad you have something put together which puts you way above the average.

@@MagicPrepper We have a lot of stuff including IFAKs, but I still need quite a bit, mostly on our heads. Bump helmets fully kitted and NODs for two people. Also want a LAW tactical folding adapter for a bag gun. And being the typical guy whatever we're talking about, you can't have too many. So while I have 3 fully built (by me, other than a factory built Spikes Pipe Hitters Union in 5.56) ARs, I certainly want more. I don't have a dedicated truck gun. And I'm hesitant to put either of my 300s in my vehicle because while one is a Palmetto State kit, I certainly upgraded a lot of internals in the lower, so it's no longer a budget build. And definitely not the one I'm wanting the folder on. I just don't do budget well. Never have. It goes back to my childhood. Totally off topic, but I used to have Hot Wheels Sizzlers cars and the track. I had one car that crapped out for some reason, but had another car that had a larger battery in it that still ran, so I took that battery and put it in the other car and that thing beat anything I raced at any other kid's house. It was blazin'. I've been like that my entire life. Most anything, I feel like I can improve.

this might be a hairbrained idea, but what about having a couple civilian legal flashbangs like TAGinn, as well as smoke grenades in your kit? my reasoning comes from having seen how a group of hajis rolled a small base of IDF: having reasonable numbers, violence of action and element of surprise on their side, made them unfortunately very effective. if I had to face something even remotely as bad, alone or with a small group of friends, I would try to disrupt their momentum and try to break contact, instead of taking the fight where they have the advantage. having a few flashbangs might slow them enough and buy you precious seconds to move, communicate and shoot; having smokes may help in further slowing them and helping mask your retreat.

Here’s some advice. Keep air pods in your kit. Or cheap versions. Doesn’t have to be name brand. If it’s to the point that you need carrier and rifle, put those ear buds in connected to your phone and get on the phone with 911. You can be hands free and go ahead and do what you need to do while on the phone with dispatch. Not only is it an audio recording of what you’re doing but you can let them know who you are and a description of yourself and what you’re wearing and what kind of weapon you have. Let them know what entrance you took or where you’re located. Obviously let them know what’s going on. This way you have a better chance of not being shot and killed by arriving law enforcement. Dispatch will relay all this to responding officers. Stay on the phone the whole time. Giving updates and stuff. Then follow exact directions of law enforcement once they arrive. Even if they tell you to drop the gun and get on your face. Once the scene is secure you’ll probably be released.

Great video, but I will put out that all that gear is useless unless you know how to use it and use it well. Even a plate carrier needs skill, for example. Most wear it too low, covering their abdomen when they need to be covering their collar bones. Not to mention making sure your kit is set for rucking. Even in short engagements, this is extremely important. The first and primary piece of gear is knowledge. Learn your gear. if you don't have the skill for the gear you have, it's only weight. IFAK is a perfect example. Even basic First Aid takes training. I'm EMT-P qualified, so can do more than most. My wife is an ER trauma surgeon, so her kit is a -bit- more extensive than mine. However, I was EOD in the military, so my defensive offense is much higher than hers in a SHTF scenario. Which brings up the other point. IFAKs are all well and good, but if you're solo and need to use a tourniquet, you're screwed. 15 minutes and you have limb death. Then necrosis begins to set in, bringing all the issues with it. With multiple people, this changes, but building your kit for what skills you have, and in coordination with those that will be with you is paramount. Plan, equip, train, re-plan, re-equip, retrain, never stop.

I don't agree with your politics but we are aligned on armor and first-aid when determining what to carry when expecting trouble. Covert and Overt. Not a fan of the 300 BO. It does well with suppression situations but I need more than 1 situation out of a piece of gear. My 'truck gun' is a REPR MKII cambered in 7.62. Pretty good at suppression, just saying. My approach for projectile gear: 2 handguns, one CC and one FS. Covert/Overt 1 low powered rifle. I'm a fan of the 10/22 takedown. more covert than overt 1 high powered rifle. As mentioned, REPR MKII cambered in 7.62. I bust this out there is little doubt how bad the situation has become. 1 shotgun. Close combat and there is a shock and awe component, TS12 with 2 3/4" provides 15+1. If you've got shell carriers this can be an amazing tool. 1+ archery solutions - these are not going to be used while walking around, they're sneak killers. Useful but situational and covert hunting equipment. Stay safe from MN.

In what situation would you be wearing that big ass camouflage tactical backpack without having your rifle at the ready? The folder seems like a waste of money and weight especially after watching you struggle for a full 10 seconds just to get it out of the bag. Also the notion of losing to a rifle with a pistol is only relevant if the your opponent knows you're there and a threat. If you can get within reasonable firing distance undetected because you've been conceal carrying I'd take my odds with a surprise pistol attack over a 1v1 with a rifle. Hell depending on the situation, I'd take being unarmed and undetected over getting in rifle duel. The shirt seems neat.

It's just a backpack. Like an EDC bag. Look up Eberlestock Switchblade and you'll see it's not very big. Mine is camo but I live in rural North Dakota so that's a non issue. The struggle was because I didn't fully unzip the bag and was trying to avoid pointing the bore at my face. But I agree it was a struggle haha. I carry a pistol all day everyday and I agree that it could be the difference. But if you knew someone with a rifle was coming to attack you at your home, I am sure you would grab a rifle. So I am just trying to demonstrate that there is a reason for that and by having that capability, it might make the difference.
@BiggestWeedTTV
@BiggestWeedTTV 10 ай бұрын
@@MagicPrepper my problem with the backpack gun is when would you use it? Maybe this is just a difference in locale but people don't just wear backpacks around here regardless of size or pattern. Most businesses won't let you bring them indoors, I can't imagine showing up to a friends house wearing one and if you're hiking/camping what kind of scenario are you looking at? Walking through the woods on a nature trail when you come under heavy machine gun fire? You already have a truck gun so I'd assume you have a rifle in your home as well which eliminates two more locations you'd need the backpack gun. If there's a riot or war or something why wouldn't I be walking around with my rifle at the ready? Maybe if I was just walking around downtown or something and only going to and from my house and getting into firefights where I have time to get to cover? Idk man, it just seems like an excuse to buy a folding rifle with no real application. Don't get me wrong, if someone bought me one for Christmas I wouldn't be bitching but dropping $1000 or more on a kitted out AR just to throw it in a bag seems wasteful.
