You are a wonderful teacher, Samantha. Your lessons are so useful and they help me to think more logically and carefully when playing bridge.

A really valuable point made that we can’t always read Partner’s opening lead until a few more cards have been played.

Even without being able to work out who has what; after partner leads a club, unless there's something significant in dummy, wouldn't it be right to return a club in any case?

Absolutely! I think, after 6 tricks and looking at dummy you should be able to know to lead a club even without knowing that it was partner's opening lead. Any yet, the person who held this hand cashed the good heart and then led a spade on the basis that the 8c was a high club and therefore declarer had all the good clubs. To really be good at bridge, we can't just automatically do anything. We need to examine and think and reexamine. Is the 8 a high club? Or a low club? Is partner's 4 of spade high or low? We need to really think about the hand to understand what's really going on. In this case, the 8 was a low club.

When does the video appear? I'm on my second ad.

Jeanne, I'm not sure why you are getting two ads. Every time I watch this video it's one ad that I can skip after 3 seconds. I'm not sure why you are getting two ads. Are you able to skip after three seconds?
