A thing to note about YRC (and all RCs in general) is that it puts you into a state called Tension Cooldown, where you gain 90% less tension. Although most RCs put you in this state for 4 seconds, YRC leaves you like this for 8 seconds. Positive bonus will cut this time down to under a second, but if you're not about to break the wall, you may want to consider other defensive options before hitting YRC. That said, sometimes you just have to eat the punishment to get out of defense. Don't be afraid to use it when you have to. Dustloop has a lot more info on tension cooldown, tension balance, and a bunch of other meter stuff if you're interested in learning more.

This is the best fighting game guide. So many guides go over offense, combos, advanced tactics, yet something so universal and quintessential as defense goes ignored. I use these tips often and beat players I really have no business beating because I have this knowledge. Thank you for this.

I really hate the term fuzzy and think it overwhelms new players in name. So many new players think it's some complicated maneuver and isn't worth learning until they're way better. And it's just like... Block timing. You really going to learn a 110 damage throw RC combo scaled at 50% before you learn how to block?

When you learn common timings IB gets pretty reasonable and even if you don't hit it you can err on the side of the faster timings and at least worst case scenario you just block...I get lots of mileage on pretty predictable stuff like Leo's bt. HS, Sol f.S > f.S, or most characters' 2D that they always do after 2K. I think it's a good habit to at least start trying to time your blocks, you'll hit it more often than you think

You're underselling YRC I feel. No defensive option is perfect so the fact the opponent can do something like reversal super doesn't make it not good. The opponent can reversal super in most offensive situations too it doesn't mean they're not good. Being + frames up close is a valuable option, especially for characters like HC who have no reversal and who have no DP. On the flip side also vs characters with no reversal it's stronger too. Most defensive options have huge weaknesses. If you think the risk reward is bad you didn't really explain that well, I feel most of the criticisms you gave go for every defensive option except that it costs meter. Really good video though.

"meaty" makes no sense to me as a term for a attacks that have a lot of active frames. Are active frames somehow comparable to having more meat? Fuzzy at least makes some sense since its between hard states so which state you are in is uncertain or fuzzy as opposed to clear.

Other people: 15 second block strings Me(using gio): dash 5k, tick throw or dash 5k, 5k or dash 5k 2s, or dash grab, then using complete block strings to reset the pressure only so that they don't see the incomplete block string into dash grab🤡 But I'm new and getting in to begin this evil is rough. On Defense there's a few things I believe you left out: Faultless Defense actually NEGATES all Chip-Damage. Which is crucial against slowing having your HP eroded and avoid dying on the last parts of the round. Use it to survive or preserve your health. Also, Wakeup BRC Backwards or Neutral BRC Backwards can cause plenty of Opponents to whiff a throw/grab or whiff an attack which is priceless. Allowing you to rush in for a grab or long range Counter Attack etc. It's important to mention Safe Jumps too, something some characters have in abundance and very deadly, while some can even punish your Backdash as well: like Giovanna - who has Safejump after everything basically and can punish a Backdash from a safejump too with 2S. Finally there's also Punishing Opponents Backdash you in order to dodge and whiff Punish a Throw Whiff: There's 2 great Countermeasures I found, which can totally turn the tide: If you have conditioned them to avoid Throws, by throwing them a lot, be it on Wake-up, Neutral or Strike-Throw / Tick Throw situations: 1) Now you can run up to bait a backdash and press an attack that has long range and/or lots of Active Framea - for example Ky f.S is excellent in punishing Back Dash, because even if they i-frame part of it, they get hit at the tail end of the Back-Dasg, after i-frame end! 2) Another option is to run up - wait for them to BD - then EXTEND THE RUN - and THROW anyway!! Basically they expect you to stop and throw at X range, but when you extend and delay to a longer run - you suddenly still in their face - delayed enough to catch them with a delayed Throw - just as they exist Throw Invulnerable state!! You can even use a Super during their Backdash because THEY CAN'T BLOCK MID BACKDASH!
@BrendanMushi3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there were some things I didn't mention such as FD negating chip damage because I felt like at this stage of the game some things were widely known, but in hindsight I probably should have included things like that for the sake of completion, but I do appreciate people helping out and letting people know about other things I didn't have time to include!

Throw loops are annoying though.
@BrendanMushi3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they definitely can be. The way I try to look at it is that a throw does a decent chunk of damage and leads to the same situation, but every time they go for a throw they're basically risking losing 50%+ of their lifebar that you won't backdash (assuming they don't have 50% meter to PRC the throw)
@itsjustavi3 жыл бұрын
You have 5 frames of throw invincibility on wake so if you think they're going to throw again you can just jab or close slash into a full counter hit combo or neutral jump and block to see if they whiff the throw then come down on them with H into full combo. Also back dash and super is always an option
@MrCowman573 жыл бұрын
@@itsjustavi unless your characters fastest normal is 6 frames then they punish you because the throw animation comes out faster. Close slash on wake up will also get grabbed as well. Back dash is a really good option though.
