The data strongly suggests that the team as a whole was doing well, and that the losses were a combination of luck, and/or bad goaltending. They were going to bounce back, so long as the goalies (same ones, or new ones) started giving at least near-average performances. The organization might be making decisions based on outdated ideologies (e.g. observations and traditional stats), or maybe there was actually some sort of personality clash behind the scenes.

Coffey is there for the accountability that everyone says is missing. Wild hunch but It seems like a precursor to seeing if extending Draisitl is warranted or moving on from him before he hits 30 makes sense….the Oilers organization is starting to get ruthless when it comes to these difficult scenarios when the winning results aren’t present.

Just threw the season and team out the window. New coach will do nothing as the the team has a games every other day till end of November, no time to implement anything, he'll be lucky to figure out where his parking space is. If you want to send a message fire Holland last year of contract anyway and he put Oilers in a CAP squeeze. There will be some guilt in the dressing room over this and I fear this is it, next year Leon is gone, and maybe others. BAD BAD move, they could have built off of Seattle win, as they play them again at home in a couple days.

Why not go with a "first time" coach? Experienced ones don't seem to be getting the "team effect." The coach is the eyes for what the team cannot see and clearly defence and goalie and strategic plays are more of a concern than fifty thousand desperate shots on the opposing team's net. Play smarter not harder. Our team is POOPED with disappoinment.

Holland built a travesty that was never going to challenge for a cup. Basically Woodcroft kept them in it! Edmonton is McDavid team. I think they should have hired someone with high authority, coach who could bench McDavid or Draisaitl if they are strugling and if there is someone who have better game going. You win in NHL by using four lines and good cap and icetime management, not by giving all the money and (PP) minutes to biggest stars. Making team happy is more important than making couple individual happy. Ken Holland should get fired, and i think they should try to trade either Draisaitl or McDavid.

The Oilers did not break Campbell , The Leafs were just a lot better on D than everyone gave them credit for and it made Campbell look like he was better than he really was . The guy was a career back up then suddenly he is the starter on the Leafs , He goes to Edmonton then sucks again 1 + 1 = 2 . When it came out that the Leafs offer to Campbell was 2 . 2 million for a couple of seasons which was no where near 5 X 5 it should have been a huge RED FLAG to Oiler fans .
