@@SDSOverfiend first of all, I'm much more a fan on Masta Ace than Eminem's, who I've never listened much to tbh. If you're talking about the rhyming style MA had on Disposable Arts you can absolutely hear the influence Eminem had on his delivery, which had changed hugely compared to the one he had on Sitting On Chrome. By 2001 Eminem had published two VERY successful LPs and an EP. Masta Ace's hiatus went from 95 to 2001, the same period Eminem went from being unknown to global mainstream star. Cheers

"Nostalgia" has gotta be one of the best tracks in hip-hop's history. Marco's beat sets a tone, but ACE paints a picture you can almost smell, taste, & touch... it's a beautiful render of a time & place that hits right in the feels. His contributions to the culture demand far more respect & widespread awareness. I've never met Mr Clear, but the way he's put his soul out there for us makes it seem like anyone could quickly find themselves with a lifelong friend after just sharing lunch with the man. Massive appreciation & wish nothin but the best.

I worked as a Freelance recording engineer in the mid 90’s at a studio called Firehouse. The other regular engineers were not available one night so I got to record Ace. I was sooo excited and I tried my best not to fuck up. The evening went like this: He shows up with a small entourage, greets me, then asks me to pull up a 2 inch. I load the tape and on it is a Cyndi Lauper Sample looped from the song “Time after time” with some drum tracks added to bring it out. I do my best rough mix while Ace and his boys are watching a basketball game in the lounge and playing Sega Genesis. He comes in the control room and asks for Tissues, I was unable to find any in the whole office, control room. He finally goes into the booth. He puts on the headphones I get a level and he spits one verse. He comes to the control room to listen back. He then says: “That’s it for tonight”. I looked at him and said: “would you like me to record what you just did onto a cassette or DAT for personal reference? He says: “ No I’m good” then he and the entourage leave. The next day my boss, the owner of the Studio(Yoram Vazan) says to me: “Yo Tom what happened last night? Ace said there were no Tissues in the Studio for his allergies! “ I had no idea that Ace had allergies nor did I think it was within my scope of a job to provide such an item. I was just trying to do the best job I could. Turns out he wasn’t “vibeing” with me and asked not to work with me. I think he wanted a slacker who would watch the basketball game with him, played sega genisis with his friends and provided tissues for his allergies. Needless to say, my career as a recording engineer was short lived for many reasons. Unless you work for a large TV or Audio house, there is no medical benefits or any benefits of any kind. Hourly rate is decent but not groundbreaking. Your job is dependent upon how long the studio stays in business. You need to have recording artist that will actually use you. You need to stand out in skills, bullshit, and social traits. I was a quiet good worker who loved Hip Hop. I would never have survived. So I stayed with my Day job(with benefits) got married and never looked back. Thanks Masta Ace for building up my self esteem and crushing my dreams. Peace.

@@mkhanman12345 Proof of what? I kept some Firehouse invoices. I have some pictures laying around. I still keep in contact with the Owner. I got a dozen friends that knew i worked there and worked there with. Other than Ace and myself, the only one who would know anything about that night is the owner because Ace complained to him about it but I doubt that he would recall the details of the complaint because it was over 25 years ago and the owner sold the studio in 1999 and moved to Tel Aviv Israel in 2000.

My favorite MC. "Disposable Arts" is in my Top 5 albums list. I just listened to "Nostalgia" and nearly cried. I'm 45 and discovered him at the end of the 90s, pretty late for a Gen X child like me, one may say. But I think I discovered him at its best. I like his musical beginnings, but even for an elder man like me that stuff was too old school, beat and sound wise. He a really nice guy, talked to him on several occassions at his concerts. If you ever get the chance to see him live, do it, 2hrs of pure rap energy.

I stumbled across your content today. I got to tell you I'm impressed. Also not too many people out there give Ace his respect. When I tell people I have in my top ten and honestly it's much closer to 5 then 10 people look at me crazy like the only thing he ever released was sitting on Chrome? And then I got to break out the discography on they ass! And I would say 95% of the time I can change their mind. The man has a slew of classic albums. And you can definitely hear the influence Eminem got from Ace in his rhyme scheme. But I saw her interview just recently on a podcast and Big Daddy Kane said he's one of the all-time greats because he was dope when he came out and he's even doper now and still somehow remains relevant and he'll never be mainstream. But real hip hop connoisseurs know ace a very rare MC. And some of these new should take notes on how to deliver clear concise barz. Where you can hear every single word spoken while also telling a relevant story to the subject matter of the song. It's not just about money, guns,& bitches. I appreciate you for shineing the light on this legendary mc and hopefully someone that doesn't know takes a dive into his discography and realizes how great the mans work is! And I've seen quite a few of the other videos you put out over the last day-and-a-half now. I ended up binge-watching a bunch of them. And I'm loving the content so I had to subscribe.
