I installed the same strike plate on my front and back door. The reason why the deadbolt hole is not aligned because both holes are made for only the door knob latch, depending on which side your door swings open. That is why both holes have the extended plate for the door knob latch. Depending on which hole you use for the door knob latch, you just have to cut out the holes for the deadbolt, as instructed in your video. It’s more work, but it’s worth the effort if the installation is done properly.

A GREAT tip indeed! There were a rash of break-ins around where I live last year and they were ALL door kick ins. I added these to all my inward swinging doors last year. And a tip for you sir. You should have that LAV mic down on the lowest point where your buttons are on your polo shirt. It is too close to your mouth so there is some harsh transients/over modulation in your audio. Keep the vids coming though! There is always room for people helping people be more secure.

How much additional security does this provide vs using larger screws on the existing strike plates?

It give way more security because with the 11” strike plate the strength spread throughout the plate and with just replacement of screws on your current strike the strength spread throughout 1.5-2”

I see you used the strike plates made by Defiant in your video, but the video is titled Defiant/ Prime line. Home Depot offers two different units for sale, a two different prices, one by each manufacturer. Are they the same? Do you prefer one over the other?

Should I use longer screws in all the holes? Will too many screws split the wood in the frame?

No don’t do that! Only use 6 - 3” screws for the back side of the strike plate as I explain in the video - no need for more because it will Damage your frame

@S.E.Locksmith just installed this. Didn't measure or trim any material. I did mark where I'd drill. I could of chipped/shaved some of the jamb. To make the strike plate flush. Ehhh it works though. Thank you for all your info!

Your right I installed this same strike plate and I broke a screw head they are cheap

Yes they are cheap! for the very first time that I installed this strike plate I was using those screws this is exactly what happened to me... Long story short I was able to remove the broken screws using a vice grip and some other sneaky tricks that I have, but the extra work time was not worth it and instead I learned that using better screws and stronger ones are the best for security and also to make the job smoothly. I recommend to use 4 inch wood or construction screws

Silver Eagle Locksmith That is good that you were able to get yours out. I had to make a new hole in the strike plate and add a screw it would of been almost impossible to get out the screw I broke. Does your company install the 3m window security film I saw you had a video on it. I'm here in Las Vegas and wanted to get it installed on some of my windows
