Mechanicus is one of my favorite intro's: "From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh...it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass that you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved. For the machine is immortal. Even in death, I serve the Omnissiah." "How has it not been made into a movie yet?" Well, it is kind of the dichotomy. There more you get into the 40k universe, the more you appreciate its epic proportions. But the more you appreciate these epic proportions, the more you realize it is a story that cannot be "conventionally" told. There is simply too much, way too much. Incidentally, the 40k franchise has been existing for around 40 years. Around 40 years of constantly evolving story telling, that is still going on to this day. It is vast, and yet expanding.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames My first Warhammer game was Dawn of War. Its very similar to the Company of Heroes gameplay. Other than they added Heroes in the 3rd one but at least, unlike Warcraft, you can turn it off and just have large armies clash. Ex of a 3rd person is Space Marine which was supposed to be a trilogy but either the publisher or developer went out of business. Still has a player base on PC. (There's also an RPG one thats similar but I can't remember what its called) 1st person as of now my favorite is Deathwing were you play as a member of the Deathwing within the Dark Angels chapter. Its kinda like left 4 dead, but your on a very enclosed ship as endless hoards hunt you down. Their Chess game is called Warhammer 40k Regicide where there are special kill animations for taking pieces. Fun fact, Regicide means, "To Kill the King." Turn base games include Space Hulk which is very similar to Deathwing, and other turn base games that are designed to act similarly to the table top game. Warhammer 40k Battlesector looks like its trying to seem like the table top. But it doesn't come out until July. When you play the actual table top there are pieces you can use to determine line of sight, explosive radius, flamethrower area of effect, ect. A lot of it is used with dice to include rolling to get your maximum move distance, unit moral, armor, wound or kill, ect. Sometimes the fun part is just putting together and painting your own armies. And to keep things fair each piece, or squad has a specific rating. So that way the two armies or of similar power when they clash. ie 1,000 point game. Edit: Eternal Crusade is their RPG, Gothic Armada is a Space Naval RTS game.

To truly get an idea of how large things are in the 40k universe, I recommend looking up the starship size comparison video here on YT. It shows the most famous starships from the most popular sci-fi franchises. The starships of 40k ridiculously outclass pretty much all other sci-fi franchises. The Imperial Navy's personnel are almost all BORN on the ships they serve on. All will likely live their entire natural lives aboard the ship, without ever setting foot planetside. Many of the officers (upper echelons at least) will go through "Rejuva-nat" treatments, extending their lifespans by a century or three. The 40k ships are so vast that they are basically mobile planetoids, crewed by tens of thousands of people (and not including the troops they might transport, whether Space Marine or Astra Militarum [Imperial Guard].

Main reasons why 40k hasn't gotten a (good) movie yet is because it is an absolutely massive universe, hence it would be a huge project that would require a budget in the hundreds of millions. There's that, then there's the grim dark element of the universe. Warhammer 40k intentionally made itself as over the top as possible, it's best to think about the writers of the story as a group of kindergarteners constantly trying to one up each other in a contest of who can take things the farthest. This over the top element applies to the grim dark brutality of the universe as well, 40k can get away with a lot of its messed up content because it is mainly in written form. If you were to bring 40k into the big screens it would either be 1: Not lore accurate, or 2: Get banned/censored worldwide. I can't quite put it into words how far 40k takes it grim dark aspects, but it's bad enough for it to never get a movie because it's just too much lol. Think of the worst possible concepts that exist, things like slavery, rape, torture, genocide, human trafficking, etc etc. Now dial that up by a factor of 100x and make a movie out of it. There's no way a movie like that would get past the censors lol. It's less bad when it remains in written form as books, but once you make it visual the messed up aspects gets escalated.

The Inquisitor is looking for signs of chaos or and such so they can be prevented from infiltrating the imperium. 15:45 those are most likely stasis pods containing fledgling psykers collected from the worlds of humanity. They are collected because untrained psykers are an existential threat to those around them since their powers are linked to emotion and intent. It frequently happens that such individuals accidentally cause daemon incursions or other such disasters. So the imperium collects them and assesses their psykic strength and ability to be trained and deals with them according to their abilities. 16:57 the tattoos are the mark of the inquisition, they ostensibly provide some protection against the corrupting influence of the warp and Chaos. 17:20 that is some sort of Nurgle Chaos deamon. Then you assemble an army (usually you pick a "point" value for each side, with each unit costing a certain amount of points, to keep the game balanced), plop them down on a table ("standard" games are on a 6 foot by 4 foot table, but it can be as big or small as you want, so long as there's actually room for all the models/etc), and fight. The actual fighting is turn based, and you resolve actions, such as shooting at the enemy, by rolling dice and comparing the result against the stats of both units. Of course since then, it's spawned all kinds of video games, ranging from the battle-chess-with-a-twist that you saw, to real-time strategy, to 1st/3rd person shooters, etc, but none of those are actually made by Games Workshop (the people who own warhammer). They license the IP out to all kinds of companies, which has led to a lot of terrible games, a lot of "this would suck, but I love 40k so I'll play it anyway" games, and a handful of actually really good games.

The I tattoo with the skull in the center is the sigil of Malcadore The Sigilite. He was tasked by the Emperor shortly before the end of the Horus Heresy to form a group dedicated to the protection of the human population. The Emperor was a man who was the manifestation of many powerful shamans that killed themselves and became one in the warp. The warp is the domain of the four chaos gods Khorne the god of blood, Slannesh the god of excess and perfection, tzetch the god of magic and change and nurgle god of disease, death and decay. Slannesh was born from the fall of the eldar. The ones in the beginning of the video in the red armor we the Blood Raven Chapter of the Adaptes Astartes. The tall one in the sleek armor holding the sword on the cliff was a howling banshee on of the aspect warriors of the eldar. In Warhammer 40k there is no good or bad side. The Inquisition is divided into 3 major groups with many minor ones mixed in. You have the Ordo Malleus which is responsible for the threat beyond namely anything to do with the warp, their militant branch is the Grey Knights. You have the Ordo Xenos which take care of the threat without which is simply put anything that is a nonhuman alien their militant branch is the Deathwatch. Finally you have the Ordo Hereticus or the threat within aka those that are labeled heretic this also includes any unregistered psykers and any mutants the militant chapter of this faction is the Adaptes Sororitas or Sisters of Battle. The guys in blue armour are the Ultramarines. The witch in the retribution video that you called the queen of the conehead was actually a eldar farseer. The heavy armor that the Space Marines is heavy and only the super soldiers of the Adaptes Astartes can wear. The Eldar Armor is not weak but it is light. I could keep going on but I'm sure you don't have all day to read this.

28:52. You aren't wrong about the steampunk aesthetic. In the warhammer 40k universe, humanity has been involved in so many catastrophic wars (both on Terra and in space), that it has lost the ability to actually innovate technology anymore. The entire technology base of the human Imperium is almost exclusively run by the Mechanicum, a group of technology augmented humans on Mars, who frequently send out entire explorer fleets looking for lost human technology among the stars, as well as any xeno technology they can find. There's also Psykers, people who have the ability to tap into the Warp and manifest all kind of unnatural powers, both passive and active, offensive and defensive (like visions), but untrained, normie Psykers have the added danger of being controlled or possessed by entities from the Warp, who then seek to destroy humanity or human populations in general, so it's a doubled edged gift. Psykers are potent weapons AGAINST the creatures from the Warp, but they are always open to being corrupted the more they use their powers, so they often use a combination of conventional weapons and Psyker type weapons. Normally, the untrained Psykers that are caught and can't be used for the human army of Space Marines, usually end up as one of those 1000 psykers being sacrificed in a chamber below the Golden Throne on which the Emperor sits (or is being kept on life support, if you want to be accurate). Like a energy vampire, the Emperor receives the 'souls/psychic potential' of those 1000 people a day to keep himself alive and able to provide the many psychic defenses to humanity that his immense power allows him. If you want to know why the Emperor is confined to the Golden Throne, you have to listen or read up on the Horus Heresy, where Warmaster Horus (his favorite "son") turned against him after being corrupted by the Chaos Gods, and which led to a civil war that almost destroyed humanity in the process. It is also why there are loyalist and traitor legions. :/

In Warhammer 40k there are very few good guys, but cheering for the "red haired harpies" also known as the Eldar (space elves) isn't too bad. They're amongst the more nobles factions of Warhammer 40k. Humanity is pretty depraved in this universe. They worship the Emperor like a god even though thats the opposite of what the Emperor actually wanted, but since he died 10k years ago and has been kept alive by the many sacrifices every day ever since, people have forgotten and power has fallen to the church, and they enforce it like they're the space gestapo. But ironically the widespread oprpession kind of makes sense too since the 4 gods of chaos are constantly tempting humans to fall to chaos which can end horribly very quickly. If one big demon pops up then that might be the end for that enite planet, so humanity is very totalitarian to try and make sure that doesn't happen. And just as a general heads up, everything in Warhammer is super over the top. Humanity still lives on earth, also known as Holy Terra, but they have countless other planets under their control. It is all just fickle, new worlds are constantly colomized and old worlds constantly fall to stuff like chaos uprisings and orkish invasions. That big ship you saw and wondered if held humanity is just one normal ship in their fleet. Theres untold billions of humans in this universe, theres just alot more orks and chaos daemons out there. The Elder (space elves) on the other hand does actually only live on a handful of gigantic ships.

The Eldar would let billions of any other life form (including humans) die horribly if it meant saving even one of their own. And they have the psychic abilities to foretell potential futures which means that's exactly what they do. Maybe they are marginally better than humanity, I guess.
@vergil88333 жыл бұрын
@@Isvoor Yeah I mean, that is pretty reasonable for 40k standards.
@sigmacademy3 жыл бұрын
@@Isvoor Depends on how you define "better". They look down on humanity, while at the same time indulged in so much "no-no's" of their own, it actually led to their entire race's downfall and the construction of their arks, the Craftworlds, not to mention having to fear having their "souls" absorbed by a god, hence having to "save" their souls to soul gems when they die. :/

A tldr of the race. Eldar (the one you like) are basically space elf. They were the dominant race in the galaxy until they literally “fucked” a god to life, creating slanesh (who she thirst). Now they are separated into two faction. Eldar, who are basically prideful with an immense ego, and dark eldar, they torture people in all way imaginable (healing them and torturing people again) to feed and escape slanesh. The ork are the green guy. Their a race that love to fight. They also have a pretty amusing power. If enough ork believe in something it will become true. Example, they paint flame on their vehicles because they think it make them go faster, purple make you invisible and many more. The human, space marine are engineered human with extra organ and modifications. They have three lung, two hearts, night vision and more. Like someone said they are 800 pound 9 foot tall monster with a suit of armor the size of a land rover. Space marine are split across different chapter. The one we mostly see in the trailer are the blood raven and the ultra marine ( the blue one ). They also have ton if other faction like guardsmen wich are the majority of the manpower. The cadian and my favourite the death korps of krieg are some of them.

The true beauty behind Warhammer 40k is that the universe is so massive you can fit practically any genre you want into a story. Horror? Focus on chaos, tyranids, or some of the most evil and awful species known to fiction that haunt the galaxy. Thriller? Follow along elite guardsmen as they try and infiltrate some genestealer cults. Comedy? Caiphas Cain has you covered with his antics. Film Noir? Arbites investigating criminal activity on a hive planet. Mystery? Inquisitor's going about their business. Action? Pick any faction, pick any other faction. Make them fight. Adventure? Inquisitor's got your back again. Throw in some guardsmen for the fun of it. Tomb Raiding? Oh boy, the Adeptus Mechanicus are going to have a field day here. The original was an RPG called Rogue Trader which spawned a tabletop miniature war game which spawned more board games which spawned books which spawned video games. The lore in this universe is so deep and intense that star wars nerds WISH their lore had this much depth to it. And the best part? You can make up anything you want to add to the lore for homebrew stories so long as it doesn't contradict what came before (and even then it's fine since it's just chalked up to "some clerk entered this information wrong"). It's amazing for role playing and making fan content since you can make everyone an OC and make lore and if it gets popular enough? Maybe GW puts it in canon. Like the Blood Ravens. THQ made their OC chapter the Blood Ravens and wrote some Lore for it. The fans loved it, so GW threw it into official canon. The entire idea around the setting is that they give you this massive box of deep lore and neat bites of info - and then let you do whatever you want with it for your hobby.

To be fair to the trailers, you were kinda watching them roughly in reverse release order and many of them are pretty low budget titles... Dawn of War 3 was like 2017 and Dawn of War 2 was 2009 up until 2011 or something (if you include the expansions)... Hopefully that partly explains the disparity in quality... There's probably a few trailers missing from this, but I suppose they might not count as cinematic... They did include the Regicide/chess one though... Generally, though, every faction is kinda bad in their own way... The humans are kinda totalitarian religious zealots, the Eldar are manipulative space elves, The Tau are kinda alien space communists (good in theory, but also kinda corrupt and a problem in various ways)... Those are probably the most reasonable 3... Then you've got an alien swarm eating everything, undead robot people, Orks that just love to fight and don't care about much else... The powers of chaos, which are basically demons and their worshipers... And then the dark space elf people who torture and enslave people to avoid being killed by one of the chaos gods... I think that's all of them... Everyone's kinda bad, even if a few aren't as bad as others.

The committed mass suicide, and in the Warp, the melded their souls together into one, massive, super powerful soul. This soul went to a young woman, and made her pregnant. It then possessed the developing egg and PERFECTED it's DNA to creat a super being. 9 months later this woman gave birth. The child spent 30 years perfecting itself, then came back to the world, performed some miracles, and preached peace, love, forgiveness, and charity to the world... At which point he was punished in an... excruciating manner... for upsetting the social norms... This punishment killed him, bit he was able to repair his body and escaped his tomb... Unfortunately he was spotted on his way out and his resurrection story got around. It became such a popular storey they people think he might come again one day, and create a religion around him. He hides, builds his fortunes and resources, plans, and occasionally comes into the world; sometimes peacefully, sometimes not; to try to prevent the worst from happening. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes not.þ

Fun fact: The nebula you see up there is not actually a nebula. Its the thing the elvish lady talking about. They were kinda there to stop it, but humans mistook it as an elvish invasion.

if you want to know more about it, watch "Bricky's warhammer 40k every faction". It's two parts and each around 40 minutes, it's a really great introduction to the world of warhammer 40k. Also there are so many ways to get into the world, you can play the video games, read the books by dan abnett, buy the tabletop, so many ways and reasons for getting into this hubby. some people just buy the miniatures just for painting, some people just read the books for their stories and some just play the video games, especially Dawn of War 1 and 2 (forget about the 3) and Space Marine.

The best way to learn about the 40k universe is to read or listen to the novels (of which there are a lot), probably the best starting point is a novel called Eisenhorn and the the Horus Heresy series. As for the gameplay it is a tabletop turn based miniature game.

"If Vincent Price was alive today, he'd be doing it." You'll want to check out the intro to Fire Warrior, then. It's narrated by Tom Baker. And it's also AFAIK the only officially licensed audiovisual work in the franchise where you actually get to see Earth.

It's also the only game to feature a genuine Exterminatus action taking place. That's the Imperium's ultimate and final scorched earth strategy - when a planet is about to be completely overrun by someone like Chaos forces or other dangerous foes, rather than give the enemy a stronghold in Imperium space, the Imperium simply deploys a planet-killer device. Not to be confused with the actual planet killer space ship of the Chaos forces, or the xeno Blackstone Fortresses. :)

@@sigmacademy Wasn't there an Exterminatus happening during a mission in Dawn of War II: Retribution? And wasn't there one in Battlefleet: Gothic?

I’m sure plenty have recommended Bricky’s video. The other introduction series that is better cut together and has high production quality and good narration is the Templin Institute. They have a good one on the Emperor who after bricky’s videos you’ll want to know more about. They also have very good videos on Warhammer Fantasy which are the Total War games’ setting.

I do however listen to the soundtrack religiously while programming. In the linked review, if you skip to chapter "Music & Sound Design" at the 5 minute mark, you'll see why. Goosebumps every time. @@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames oh yeah! Generally I suppose the best first movie would be from the perspective of a completely normal guy from the tau army or the imperial guard, who then slowly experiences a fraction of the terrors of the 40k universe. Something the audience can relate to that slowly hints at the immense scale of the universe and makes the viewers want more without overwhelming them.

The Adeptus Mechanicus (my favorite faction) are a priesthood based on Mars, that venerates machines (especially the technology from the Dark Age of Technology). They believe in the divine machine or Omnissiah, the perfect blend of organic and inorganic. Their religion was formed during the Age of Strife (a period between 11 and 20 thousand years before 40k), where the worlds of mankind were cut off from each other by Warpstorms, making travel (and therefore commerce and the exchange of ideas and knowledge impossible). During this time, most human worlds reverted to various phases of human-society evolution (basically every world devolved to various historical periods; Stone Age, Iron Age, Gunpowder Age, Nuclear Age, etc., depending on how well each world's civilization was able to maintain it's sciences and technologies). Some worlds, including Holy Terra (🌎🌍), even reverted to techno-barbarism (think Mad Max, only with far more powerful weapons and vehicles). The life-support technology of Mars began to decay, and at some point in those thousands of years, the various tasks and chores involved in machine maintenance, became the rituals of a newly formed religion. And because machines can "live" for a long time (when well cared for; we've ancient sawmills in the States that have been in operation unchanged since the late 1800s) it only became natural for this religion to venerate steel over flesh. The tech-priests over time replace as much of their organic bodies with machinery, even going so far (as you saw in the "Mechanicus" cinematic of stripping away the flesh and other "squishy" bits from their skulls). As you saw, that Magos (religious title), was essentially just his skull, and a couple of glass and steel containers (carrying the few vitals that can't be replaced).

If u like the Warhammer 40k, i would recomend to watch the unofficial Astartes, a massive project made by a single guy. It is in any way a masterpiece and shows how those heavy armored space marines are ment to be against "regular forces". Kinda amazing, the other one is the trailer to the 9th edition of the tabletop. That is an official trailer, not as such a high quality as the Astartes but kinda amazing and get 2 see 2 new factions. PS: Love u reactions. Keep going!

There's another short film made by a single guy: It's a short movie called R'ha. The creator has been trying for YEARS to make a full feature from the short, but he says he's not going to get the creative freedom he needs to do it justice via the studio system - it's about a alien being (a starfighter pilot) who is captured by a robotic enemy (one of his people's warmachines that became sentient) and who wants to know where his home world is to destroy their creators. Then there was also the guy who made the the Star Trek's Kelvin timeline Miranda ship class and other ships mostly on his own. It has a water effect on the lens, that gives it an almost hyper reality aspect. Then there is also the bunch of Blender short movies on KZbin. I don't think it was done by singular people (for the most part), but KZbin is FILLED with single-person animations, not to mention with 100s of fan films, fan animations, scifi/horror/fantasy/action/cosmic horror/musical/western shorts, superhero/fantasy/etc. web series, and an awful lot more, if you are inclined to search for it. :/
