Sadly, in this episode, Death Battle got a copyright strike, forcing them to remove the end of analysis quotes (Saitama's was, "I guess that takes care of that." and Popeye's was him singing, "I'm Popeye the sailor man!"). From that point on, Death Battle stopped doing end of analysis quotes and stopped playing clips from the combatants' shows to try to avoid future copyright strikes.

Fun fact: the reason why they had an 8-bit style appear (outside of being just a simply cool idea) is due to the fact that Popeye was the reason behind the creation of the game Donkey Kong and, by coincidence, Super Mario. You see: Shigeru Miyamoto back before Nintendo and the like wanted to create a game with Popeye rescuing Olive from Bluto, but couldn't get the rights and thus had to rework the original game and thus created Donkey Kong and the rest, as they say, is history.

This battle was very obviously a curbstomp from the moment the participants were revealed. But it's the only way they could ever do Saitama - one of the most requested characters in the history of Death Battle - until we ever get to see the full extent of his power (if at all). He is at his core a gag character. His entire premise is that he's ridiculously overpowered. The only choice you have is to pin him against another gag character. And Popeye was just a very obvious choice based on their similarities and parallels. Yeah, it was never a contest - but this is probably one of the only ways a Death Battle with Saitama could have ever been this well received, without copious amounts of nerd rage...

Two words: 'Toon Force. Roger Rabbit described it to detective Eddie Valiant (Who Framed Roger Rabbit? movie) as being able to do literally *anything* as long as it was funny. Some examples include Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote (mostly defensive, to survive his own mistakes), & Tom & Jerry, to name just a few. When Saitama was punched out of the store & landed across the street, he landed in front of "Wimpy's Hamburgers." Wimpy is a friend of Popeye's & he seems to have gotten smart enough to keep himself fed...After all, his primary claim to fame back in the day was to "gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." He doesn't need to borrow from his friends any more. Can we take a moment to appreciate that every time the art & animation styles changed, they were literally breaking through into other dimensions?...That takes a lot of *power* ya' know.

believe it or not.............they LOWBALL'd popeye. he has even more ridicules stuff that he's done. like one time, him and olive were on a haunted ghost ship, filled with asshole ghost who kept beating up popeye but he couldn't even touch them. then he ate some spinich and not only was he able to hit them, he turned them corporeal so that olive could grab them and sew them together to make a giant sail.

As it is said, "Gag character power, or Gag force" is a limited version of Toon Force. The Gag character is a satire, however they do operate within some set rules or there is an in-universe explanation for why they are beyond what their world normally allows. One Punch Man, Arale, and Squirrel Girl at like this, even Deadpool has gone into this before where being a satire allowed them to break the normal restrictions of their world. Toon Force however has only one rule *anything can be done so long as its funny...even if only to the user*. The only restriction Toon Force normally gets is that either A: Its a toon world so everything or almost everything is in on the joke, or B: The user is too unhinged (or other emotional limitation) to focus enough to take serious advantage of this power to utilize it all the time to its full potential. To put it this way in Dragon Ball Super Beerus could have killed Arale with the Hakai, but had he used that on Bugs Bunny, Bugs would have just popped up behind, a giant pencil or other writing tool appear from the sky to draw him back in and then ended qith a quip...I could even see Beerus doing it multiple times only to have a fourth wall break where Bugs appears out of the writing tool of the manga artist while shouting "Stop!, I get it you want me to die. But bub, that's the joke. I'm a toon, I can't die. So uh....*chews carrot*...let me explain how this is supposed to go, I do something funny, he gets upset, he chases me, I mess with him in ever screwier ways, sometimes he wins, mostly I win, the audience gets a good laugh, ha ha hee hee, curtain falls, the end, okay, okay *dives back into the manga*.

On this same note: the sun hit by a puck feat, is...like fifty feet off the ground. Its the "Sun" of he real world, its a toon sun in a toon world, the puck didn't travel through space, it even stayed the same size to the observer. Which is really one of the problems of comparing toons or any fictional character to the real world...they have never been in the real world; their worlds themselves don't obey the same laws of physics as the real world. Courage the Cowardly Dog had a sun that required a light bulb, Many anime and superhero worlds characters ignore thermodynamics, objects and people can hold more energy than entire suns, even more than their universe at times, some have even argued evidence some of these worlds seem more fragile than the real world *Dragon Ball and other anime having apparently very explosive worlds, sometimes objects even exploding in combustive ways from kinetic impacts, Ub so many shows its clear that lasers and lightning don't move at light speed in those worlds as even ordinary people can be seen dodging them, heck even buoyancy is ignored *the show Myth Busters did a food number of episodes based on live shows that tweaked physics as well for the sake of a cool scene. So yeah, finding a neutral ground and trying to scale any of it to the real world is not reasonable and another reason to remember this show is just entertainment as well.

toon philms originaly made with the strong argument pepole would like to watch it to escape their reality to something simpler. therefore the cartoons we knew first had as little as possible binded to reality physics and such... since that was the reason most impossible fits didn't had to had explanation nor to audiance or within the storyworld. we watchers learned to bend and accept appearantly to the level we can compare cartoons for kids with no boundaries with cartoons for abit more adults with abit more rulls... i didnt though it could happend i didnt though we could compare superman and dragonball too..
