I've always loved how DBZA Goku treats Vegeta as if he's no threat whatsoever. Lines like, "don't worry - saved ya again, best buddy!" and "aww, he's all tuckered out," both imply that Goku thinks it's cute that Vegeta is trying to help.

From past experience, Goku has every reason to believe Vegeta is inconsequential after his initial villain arc, just like the rest of his friends. Well, except Yamcha. He was inconsequential DURING his arc. Still, I think Yamcha is the only one of the group who ever beat Goku in a fight.

Fun Fact: Scott Frerich's (Writer, Editor, and voice of Trunks, Korin, Yajirobe, etc.) LOATHES this movie...the original, not abridged. He used to do episode editing breakdowns and a good chunk of it is him pointing out how difficult it was to edit around some of the off-model artwork in this one, just repeatedly saying, "F*** this movie!" Hell, there is no actual scene of Goku turning Super Saiyan the first time, he's just already in it, so Scott had to edit one together, to which I think he did a really good job.

That video breakdown is worth a watch on it's own, especially for Kaiser's tirade at the end of it. Like holy shit does the 2nd Cooler movie standout badly in comparison to other DBZ movies. Just a quick rewatch on the initial Goku vs Cooler fight will show just how bad the art and animation in that movie is. It's no wonder Kaiser about lost his mind at the end of that editing breakdown.

Funfacts: The gete (getti) in "Big Gete Star" comes from getemono, the Japanese word for "cobbled together", which is fitting, considering that the Big Gete Star is made up of countless pieces of derelict technology that are literally cobbled together. The whole concept of a hive-like, assimilating, artificial swarm was most likely taken from the Borg of Star Trek, the Gete Star construct resembling a Borg Cube.

Fun fact: this movie is actually TFS most hated movie. Specifically the director has done interviews and he says he despised making this movie. The reason he said this is because the movie makes no sense whatever from a story perspective. Granted all the DBZ movies make no sense and are not canon but this one takes the cake for a couple of reasons 1. This movie takes place during the Androids and on top of it Cell just appeared. So where the heck are they finding the time to take a break and just go to Namek? 2. During this time Piccolo fused with Kami. Meaning Piccolo is way stronger then a Super Saiyan and stronger then both Goku and Vegeta. So why is it Goku and Vegeta fighting Cooler when theoretically it should be Piccolo? Cause at this point he is much stronger. 3. Where the heck did Vegeta come from? He wasn’t on the spaceship with them when they were going to Namek. So was he just like secretly following them in his own spaceship for some reason 😂🤣😂 or was he already there to begin with for some reason? If so why would he be there and why was he following them? 4. It doesn’t really explain it but that was kind of the jist of how Cooler came back. Some how only half of his head was floating around in Space which was alive!!! A part of the Big Gete Star landed on him and assimilated that part of him into its being. So first off how in tf was he still alive to begin with? He was blasted into the Sun and only half of his head was left? Actually if he want to be technical it was LESS then half of his head. Second why go back to Namek? Of all the planets in the universe they pick Namek which just happened to be the planet that Goku and his friends were going to visit for some reason. I can keep going but this is the main reason why TFS despised making this movie. Normally they do a really great job at fitting the movies in to make them feel like they are somewhat canon and make sense but this one they just could not figure out. They said it got to the point where they almost just gave up on the movie but decided to just say f it and just go with it and not even care about making it fit.

I love the running gag of Cooler and Frieza taking every opportunity to downplay the other. This movie sort of addresses it but Cooler(and a good chunk of the movie villains) pretty much copy canon villains from the show. Like in the first Cooler movie where he shows up with his dollar tree Ginyu Force. And one of the most unfortunate things about Metal Cooler is that he doesn't use that super cool final form he had where he bulks up and the mask comes over his face like last time. But the humor in this was fantastic

To explain the jokes at the beginning: 1.) Namekians don't eat; they live off of just water 2.) Namekians are an all-male species and don't have any junk. Roshi's not gonna get any action. 3.) The Albino Namekians were wiped out on Super Kami Guru's orders and Kami's not aware of it

As for #2, they're not actually all-male. They're hermaphrodites based on slugs, which would imply that they're biologically both male and female despite TFS's running gag (despite all having masculine tertiary sexual characteristics, though that could be explained by every Namekian except Piccolo being Guru's children).

So, the reason for Goku and Vegeta being able to destroy the Big Getty Star is *most likely* due to two reasons. The first reason is the Zenkai boost. You might remember Vegeta using it to get stronger faster on Namek. The Zenkai boost is a Saiyan exclusive ability that allows a saiyan to get a huge power spike if they are beaten near death and not dying from the experience. So Cooler, by generously beating Goku and Vegeta to near death and then taking them to a nice safe place to naturally recover, was a miscalculation on his part . Cooler just wanted to gloat to the two of them, so he waited for them to regain consciousness before draining them, but he allowed them to wake up stronger than ever. The 2nd reason (Which to be honest is just my fan theory, the first reason is most likely the real one) is that Cooler just forgot how strong he and the saiyans were. Vegeta has been able to blow entire planets up since the beginning of the show. Both he and Goku could most likely destroy an entire solar system at this point in the show if they tried too. The Big Getty Star was just a big metal construct created using New Namek's matter. Cooler was already super strong, so the clones created based off him were also strong because the Big Getty Star had good quality materials to work with. The Big Getty's Star construct most likely didn't have much more durability than a planet, due to it being made from New Namek's resources, so it was easily destroyed.

The real reason is plot because if the big getty star can produce an army of cooler with the same power level as them it doesnt make sense that two of them would be able overload it. And the other thing is that if it can produce an army of cooler with energy it shouldnt need to get other people energy.

My unsolicited and unsupported theory is the Big Gete Star has a power amplifier in it that greatly amplifies all incoming power. So, Goku and Vegeta...donate enough power to make maybe one metal Cooler, and the Big Gete Star amplifies that to the point that it doesn't have the capacity to handle the amplified power. Horrible design flaw? Absolutely. But so is designing an electrical system designed to absorb raw energy without a circuit breaker. I mean, seriously - Goku and Vegeta start overloading the BGS and Cooler can do _nothing_ to stop it? Please.

@Jon Lange Shh, that's a spoiler, plus if it was after then Vegeta would be temporarily stronger than Goku. The Broly movie takes place after this one, where Gohan hasn't you know what yet, so this movie is before Goku's and Gohan's training session. Stuff like this is why the movies are non cannon, they don't fit in the cannon timeline at all.

@Soulbade-X Considering how in this movie vegeta was getting speed blitzed by Cooler and couldn't keep up with Goku's and Cooler's speed, then no. Vegeta was weaker than Goku in the Android saga until he trained in the chamber. This was because Vegeta just recently met the requirements to turn super saiyan, while goku had already been super saiyan for 3 years now and still training. He just never got a chance to fight due to his heart problems.

In terms of the story as they're watching it, saying "this shot is because Dende comes to earth and becomes Kami" is a spoiler, (and is also wrong in the DBZA timeline). Just suggesting you put a spoiler warning or something.

@@Fenrislokisonsuncut I do think you are a bit confused with the next movie, but it doesn't really matter because between Cell's first appearance and the cell games announcement might just be a few days at most (two days in the room of infinite bullshit). In the DBZA timeline this happens after Kami & Piccolo fused (and movie is a DBZ movie, they are just there for a cash grab). And TFS themselves confirmed that the next DBZA movie: Broly is to be placed just before the Cell games. Cell even make's a cameo.

This is one of those non-canon DBZ movies that doesn't really fit into the timeline all that well. For example: If this really was after Piccolo and Kami fused, then that makes Piccolo stronger than all the Coolers and Super Saiyan Goku and Super Saiyan Vegeta by a WIDE margin. And Future Trunks is no-where to be seen!

It's kinda tragic that we'll only get to enjoy movie-abridged Vegeta two more times, out of the 13 DBZ movies he's only in the back half of them (due to being a villain/begrudging ally during most of the classic series) and TeamFourStar never finished all the DBZ movies, just the first 8 before they called it quits on starting the Buu Saga and cancelled the Bojack movie mid-production

So this is among the worst of the DBZ movies, for writing and especially animation. And because of that, TFS just decided to go silly with it. Sillier than normal anyway. Addressing some of the obvious plot holes, but also still doing as the movie does and not answer them. Or not answer them in ways that make much sense. Like Coolers head floating through space and a random chip landing on him. Literally more explanation than the movie provided for his survival. I personally like _”Oh hey Vegeta. When and how did you get here?”_ because... Yeah, how? Shows the Saiyan pod at the end but... _How? Where did that come from?!_ And to quote Kaiser, _”F**K THIS MOVIE!”_ because the amount of ‘fixing’ he had to do on so much of the animation to make it look as it does here was truly a dedication. The amount of lazy eyes several characters had is hilarious, but also just insanely poor effort by the original animators. Most notable edit he did was Goku turning Super Saiyan the first time here though, there was no initial transformation in the movie. It just cuts away from Goku Fighting cooler, cuts back later, he’s suddenly Super.

Those are only good if you've seen the show/abridged before. Since they hint at future plot points or have their own jokes separate from the episode. Better to not distract someone with other jokes when they're watching the first time.
