Another really good episode… It was super satisfying that Alicent basically admitted that she believed Rhaenyra and had confused her son with Aegon the conqueror. I think Rhaenyra is going to fight 10x harder now that there is no doubt in her mind that Viserys wanted her to reign. I’m definitely Team Black, but I can’t help but hold a special place for Alicent and her “WTH” looks on her face (like confusion meets shock meets disgust) when she and Rhaenyra are talking… Also I have to give it to Aegon (the actor). He is doing soooo good in this role. The scene where he’s barking at Aemond in the brothel/place; idk how he held it together and made it believable to his character, but he did and it was pretty phenomenal acting.

I honestly do love how Rhaenyra gets a brutal reality check regarding Aegon II's accidental succession. It really doesn't matter what Viserys meant anymore- people are already dying, and children have been killed. It is far too late to back down from "a simple misunderstanding." It doesn't change how Rhaenyra *did* authorize a hit on Aemond in Daemon's presence, and it doesn't change the fact that Aemond let Vaeghar eat Lucerys. The "truth" changes nothing.

She saw what everyone saw Vicerys defending his daughter’s right to rule. She was desperate to misunderstand the situation.

The biggest question I had about season 2 was if Rhaenyra would ever find out what Viserys told Alicent on his deathbed and if not then it would be a huge missed opportunity the writers would've left on the table to add to Rhaenyra's motivation as a character and adds more depth to what really drives her--knowing that as an audience (besides being usurped of course) now just makes Rhaenyra's actions and decisions that much more important and has a higher impact to the story now, and I'm so glad they let us know now that she found out. She ain't f*cking around anymore its go time, and the story needed that to make Rhaenyra go from passive and inaction on war to declaring war. Can't wait for episode 4

Corlys didn’t consider Rhaena as his heir not because of her gender, but because she’s the progeny of his youngest kid instead of of his oldest kid. Ignoring gender, succession is supposed to go through the line of whoever’s oldest. Had Rhaena been Laenor’s daughter and not Laena’s, she probably would’ve been named heir since we know he has no problem with the rule of women.

I was expecting to see Daemons mother aswell. It could have possibly made the scene even deeper and stronger. Of course, seeing Rhaenyra makes sense in my mind, the audience will recognize her younger version and what significance it plays is good as it is. But imagine seeing his mother and Rhaenyra in that scene. I think both could have deep meaning for Daemon, who long for love, warmth and trust but his ever wild temperement, of envy and pride, cause a rift between him and those around him. His mother could have been reminder of the family. Of the innocent lives he has caused harm to. Rhaenyra gave him a second chance to be alive, a second chance to prove himself right and dutyful to the family, after the loss of Laena. I think seeing his mother would have taken away the impact Rhaenyra the young had, the innocent soul he did not meant to cause harm yet contributed to. Just some quick thoughts. But yea, if the show writers wanted they could have shown his mother/alter the scene to include her. But I think it was a good scene nonetheless.

What is she supposed to? Tell her son to hand his crown to Rhaenyra? Something tells me that’s not going to happen. And criston Cole is definitely not going to in anyway let that happen. Even allicent knowing this puts her in danger. Imagine if Larys strong found out. Like allicent said, as horrible as it is, it is way too late. Let’s not forget that the small council was already planning to put aegon on the throne regardless of what the king said. Allicent’s confusion only put the icing on the cake for them. So it would’ve happened this way anyway.

Last episode Alicent brought up sinning to Otto and Otto waved it off, when Halaena said she forgives her that’s what I took it as. Alicent being forgiven for her sins. But I could have read into it wrong!

I was surprised Alicent didn’t call the guards on Rhaenyra after she walked away. It was established that neither of them want war - and striking down Rhaenyra would end the war that Alicent argued had already started. I’m curious what her justification will be in the next episode.

She probably sees that it’s out of both women’s hands now, the men are all lusting for blood. Alicent has a powerless vibe, never takes control when she needs to, can’t think for herself (other than pushing her son to the throne).

But even with him being put out like because weren’t the scenes were taking place simultaneously? And even if he was upset with his wife, he would just torch everything I think. Like full stop.

@@computasaysnoo1 yeah, the war would then be about avenging the rightful queen and putting her heir on the throne. And in the book honestly, the biggest threat was daemon. His Dragon had the most experience in a fight next to Aemonds dragon and Aemond had no battle experience. Also, I think in the scene honestly alicent its just kind of pissed at herself . Full of self loathing, powerless, and always the second choice.

Young Rhaenyra flash back is actually a metaphor for the things that daemon caused to take a darker turn. He cause the death of an innocent child, even if he meant to attack an adult Aemond Targaryen. He played with young Rhaenyra, her feelings and future, making a dent in Rhaenyra reputation in the future.

Ok, it was Rhaenyra had time to entrenched her claim and so on... but Otto was THE FIRST person to give the idea of sending assassins after Rhaenyra. How wouldn't Otto do that? He also wasn't dumb enough to send a member of the King's guard, but HE WAS THE FIRST GUY WITH THOSE KIND OF IDEAS RHAENYS! That aside, I am loving Rhaenys in season 2, while I can anyway 😭

That last scene was completely unnecessary not needed, also this episode heavy handidly pushed the narrative that all the men want war and the women want peace...which is a complete lie (Wtf were the writers thinking with that BS?) Also Rhaeneys casually not mentioning that she committed an act of war and to be frank a war crime with that dragon pit stunt last season...I look forward to her comeuppance (no spoilers). Lastly if you know the lore so many characters see each other for the last time this episode (and the previous one) it reminded me of the earlier seasons of GOT, that sense of dread and sadness.
