This series and your complete dedication to breaking down both the books and the movies is the reason I became a member. Your passion for the material is one of the elements that sets you apart from other channels. Yet, at the end of the day, folks are only going to watch if the videos are fun and enjoyable. The fact that you make a two hour video essay fly by with a fine balance of humor and depth is beyond impressive. Thanks for all the work from you and your team.

Ironically, the ring floating on top of the molten lava is actually more accurate than a person sinking into it. Lava is extremely dense and hot. What would likely happen if somebody were to fall on to a river of lava is that they would catch on fire on top of the lava and burn to a crisp, not sink into it.
@alaric_2 күн бұрын
Yep, humanoids are mostly water and water is less dense then lava.

Spectacular work on the entire trilogy! One detail that I love which is not conveyed in the movie is that the blade Merry stabs the Witch King with was created by his enemies when they warred against him. And now 1,600 years later it begins his demise as we're told it broke the spell that "knit his unseen sinews to his will". Then Éowyn is able to stab him in the face and FINISH HIM! So the NO MAN prophesy is fulfilled by a hobbit (also a NO MAN) and a woman with the unique tools (and courage) to carry it out. It's another "happy coincidence" like Bilbo finding the ring which leads Gandalf to tell Frodo he was "meant to have the ring" ... the implication being that Ilúvatar & co. are pulling some strings.

It cannot be understated how much these movies mean to a lot of people myself included. I watch them every few months. And get equally emotional every time. This trilogy is easily the most impactful in a variety of ways. It's so much more than just some movies and some books. It's a world we can escape into to get away from the things that bother us.

Personally, I think the ring sits on the lava a bit to show how much heat is needed to destroy it; when it hits the lava, the immediate area underneath the ring turns black and briefly cools, before heating back up and melting the ring. That would indicate it took a bit for even the heat from the lava in Mt Doom to destroy the ring.
