Elvis Heard "I Will Always Love You" on a Demo from Dolly in 1972, it was during the time he was going through his Separation and Divorce from Priscilla and he really wanted to do her song. Elvis and Dolly thought they had everything worked out but then his Manager got involved and Parker demanded 50% of her Publishing rights. Dolly told him she couldn't do that and Parker told her then Elvis can't record your song. Dolly said she cried herself to sleep that night because she had been so excited that Elvis wanted to record it. You have to remember that this was a goodbye song to Porter Wagner as she wanted to leave the Porter Wagner show. There was a legal fight between them and Porter won, with Dolly having to pay money she did not have. I think there were rights to songs included in the lawsuit. But Dolly paid. Many years later Porter ran into tuff times financially, and despite their rocky past, Dolly truly did love him (as a person, not romantically) because she was there to help him out. They had a friendship.

Whitney covered it, singing it to a lover with passion. Different singers to different audiences. No real comparison here.

Dolly wrote this for herself and recorded it all those years ago. Another amazing version is by Linda Ronstadt, but Dolly's is the OG!! Dolly is the most prolific songwriter in history. She has written well over 3,000 songs and counting. She never stops!

Dolly is the queen of country. Her voice is fantastic. She is country through and through. Sevierville, Tennesse. Dolly wrote the song and sang it on Porter Waggoner's show. Whitney sang it later.

Dolly wrote most of her own songs, some autobiographical like this one and Coat of Many Colors. Dolly is so sweet and she explains why she dresses the way she does and you need to watch some of her interviews. She has always known who she was and has never changed. She is the real deal.❤

My grandfather had an abiding crush on Dolly until the day he died. Coming up, I never thought I fit well with the country vibe of our time and place and I never listened to country music by choice, but it was on the radio a lot during summers with my grandfather. I knew who Dolly was, but with the arrogance of pretentious youth I figured she was just a dumb blonde with big boobs that had little actual talent ... just mainly riding on her looks. At some point several decades ago I realized that she wrote most (or all?) of her own songs, and many were from her own actual life experiences. And as I begrudgingly began to pay her more attention, I discovered what perhaps millions before me already knew. She is a powerhouse, even when she is quiet. Glad you ow know her. Cheers, y'all.
