But because weapons are so easy to just find on the ground and they don't degrade, the need for pipe weapons in Fallout 4 just disappear. It would have been cool to manufacture new but simple guns that were more reliable and/or easier to repair than prewar artifacts. And before people go on about rifling, look up the rifling methods used by S&W. You will notice electrochemical machining, a process that can be replicated in a garage setting with basic electric components and chemicals.

And since alot of these pipe weapons are semi of fully automatic they would need some back pressure to fire and they would probably be piston operated.

The thing that really bothers me about pipe-weapons is that they are totally nonfunctional. Having made numerous DIY firearms IRL, even a few minutes of research could have shown Bethesda how to design something realistic. Everything for the Luty, to slamfire shotguns could be (and lore wise likely were) made both pre and post war with minimal expertise. If they really wanted to make something believable, open bolt full auto SMGs should have been the default; abysmal accuracy due to non-rifled barrels, constant jams, failures to feed... the works. hell, they could be underpowered as they are necessarily pistol caliber. For shotguns, VERY low reloading and minimal semiauto capabilities. Revolvers should have been the only high powered pipe weapons, owing to their mechanisms and breech design. It could have been so easy to make something competent.

I can't use the weapon replacers that imbalance the game by replacing the vanilla combat rifle with the M16 or the SR-556, because as awesome and nice as they look/sound they have lasers, killstreak options, canted scopes, heartbeat sensors, conversion to 80 new types of ammo, +300% damage option for no resource cost (which I could just not use but I don't like have to force myself not to win easier), and it just outshines all other weaponry to the point where you'd never pick up a random legendary and decide to use it. After exhaustively searching, I've found one 10mm replacer with just the looks changed but the hammer animations doesn't work, and one combat rifle replacer with only looks changed as well, that causes silent footsteps when equipped. I'm grateful for all the weapon mods and replacers out there, but I'm mostly happy with how the weapons work and just want an upgrade from Bethesda's bad visual implementation of creative ideas for weapons. Great suggestions! I tried a more recent mod, No More Pipes and Unleveled DLC Weapons, and it's perfect for those that don't like pipe weapons or want a different experience, especially early game. Some may not like the unleveled weapons appearing right from the start on humans and mutants - everything from handmade rifles to cryolators - but I think it's refreshing and chaotic in a good way.

I always found the pipe weapons interesting but they become unviable so fast like as soon as you are level 10 or 15 you will have better weapons available and so they become practically useless.

Weapon design in fallout 4 is atrocious for the 90% of the weapons. Pipe guns dont make sense and also make the early game worse in a sense of variety. Those mods are awesome tho.. especially the post apocalyptic replacers since it also makes the assault rifle like an actual weapon
@arx35163 жыл бұрын
IMO they should have used bows and crossbows instead of pipe weapons, they work and are low tech enough to be manufactured in a post apocalyptic scenario.
@DJWeapon83 жыл бұрын
@@arx3516 the core problem is bethesda world building and lore disconnect for Fallout. 200+ years after the apocalypse and barely anything new sprang up? Contrast that with even the first fallout game. Where there are already multiple large settlements in the *desert after 80 years* in the Mojave. Come fallout 2, new cities have been built. *Clean cities made of concrete with organized city blocks.* New Vegas is the "eastern frontier" of the west coast. Set a little before Fallout 4 and there are already new industries in California that make high quality mass produced goods like beef, chems, guns, and energy weapons. Yet Fallout 4 is still stuck looking like the bombs just dropped 5-10 years ago. And pipe weapons are the "main form" of armament.
@DJWeapon83 жыл бұрын
@Mr I’m hate myself it makes no sense from a lore and gunsmithing perspective. Fallout 3 had no pipe weapons. All of the firearms in that game, apart from the hunting rifle which looks poorly maintained for some reason, are recreations of real world firearms. Now all of a sudden there's tons of pipe weapons lying around being used by random wastelanders? Then there's the gunsmithing aspect. This is a fault of bethesda that started in 3 and worsened further in 4. Pipe weapons are deliberately made to look like shit and anyone with a modicum of knowledge of how firearms work would be disgustied by it. But bethesda put it in because mUh aPoCalYpSe, I guess... Keep in mind the game is a POST apocalypse game. The very LATE POST apocalypse as it is 200+ years after the nuclear holocaust. When real improvised weapons are made to be sturdy and are ergonomic enough, given its available materials and lack of precision tooling. IE it doesn't look like shit and can actually function. Long story short. Pipe weapons shouldn't be a thing because 3 had shown plenty of actual well made and manufactured firearms. Even more so if they want to take 1, 2, and New Vegas into the bethesda canon.

I like the concept of pipe weapon… _AFTER A FUCKING REDESIGN,_ the concept of an early stage in handmade guns fascinated me and…. The Germans literally have a pipe gun before, but for fallout, only if it was after the bombing a few 10-30-50 years ago. But besides that, it’s a no no for any of the fallout game since: it is after 200 years and in Fallout 2, 280s years after the bombing. In Fallout 3, 320s years later. In New Vegas, 324s years later and in fallout 4, 330s years after the bombing Oh hey look, Fallout 76… and it’s 100 years after the bombing At that point, pipe weapons are no longer needed and are probably laughed at realistically as civilization has developed far enough to handcraft weaponsmith guns that is more in line with our quality of handcraft weaponsmith Fallout 1? Maaaaaybe? Fallout 2? Iffy but… the smaller faction probably use it (I’m stretching the possibility alright?), Fallout 3? *CHILDRENS* have legitimate guns
@Fire_truck_man3 жыл бұрын
@@James-oj6ru there’s a pipe gun in fallout 2, it’s the first gun you get if you follow the story. It makes a lot of sense in the smaller and more isolated towns, especially if most of the population does stuff like hunting gecko, vermin, etc.

Pipe weapons were a great idea that was implemented really poorly. 1) you should start out with a slam-fire and build more complex parts as you level up 2) there shouldn't be pipe weapons in sealed pre-war locations 3) they should look like they actually function
@laernulienlaernulienlaernu89533 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of the pipe weapons. They fit perfectly in Fallout. At the moment I'm using an auto pipe rifle with the kneecapper effect which is perfect for ghouls and mierlurks etc. With the right perks they can be good enough to complete the main storyline. The only thing I don't really like is the green looking finish.

I love the concept and the idea behind pipe guns; pretty much like you explained; it’s just made sense in the context and makes the fallout world more alive. I just don’t like how it looks in-game (too crude and wouldn’t work); I would much prefer if it looks like the weapons from Metro series (guns like the Bigun, Duplet, or even the Bastard); handmade weapons and makeshift; uses both actual guns part and scraps cobbled together rather than whatever vanilla pipe guns supposed to be.

3:43 if they change the textures of the pipe weapons they NEED to change the sound to them to a metallic bang and twang kinda sound since the gun is made of metal.
@jimbojimbo69153 жыл бұрын
i think hat pipe weapons should be even more customisable. Being able to make your own weapon from some scrap and slowly upgrading it overtime is a really cool concept. If pipe weapons had the customisability then they could be viable late game if not more powerful than your prewar weapons. make it something you have to put effort and time into that will give you great performance.

Pipe guns existed in Fallout 1 and 2. There was an item called a Zip Gun, which is a real world term for a makeshift firearm. It could only fire one bullet before needing to be reloaded, which is how many real world zip guns actually work. In my opinion, the game that handled "pipe weapons" the best, was Metro 2033. The improved weapons they have in that game look like people really took the time to craft these things in a way that emulates how normal firearms are supposed to work, which the Nina's mod actually manages to recreate pretty well.

I just wish the weapons didn’t suffer from the two main problems with most, if not all of Fallout 4’s weapons: •Left-handed charging handles and ejection ports (The game came out in 2015, long after FPS games had stopped doing this. It just looks bad.) •Terrible or clunky reload animations (seriously, why do the charging handles on pipe weapons have to be operated like a bolt-action???)

Cool; he deleted his mods and removed them from Nexus, it overhauls muzzle flash effects, and provides better visuals for bullets hitting a metal objects... Essentially adding shrapnel, and hot cinders on bullet contact or explosions... Good pipe weapon vid though changing that aspect of my game up is definitely something I've been thinking about because the vanilla is a little off somehow and redundant... People would at least knock the rust off they're gun barrel and figure a way to weatherize stocks and grips...

My biggest problem is the water cooled assault rifle, it's just stupid. A maxim like MMG or LMG would make sense with power armor, but a water cooled assault rifle just makes no sense. Pipe Weapons are fine for the most part. There are some really weird improvised weapons for example in Africa, which look like they are more likely to blow up into your face, than shoot.
