Dude !! 7 Years later this is still the definitive DIY club paint repair video. Golf Paints Inc shipped me an exact match to my 2023 Callaway Paradym 5 wood that had several scratches after the last season, and it literally looks brand new when applying this method. I can say this: Do not rush the repair...do it over a couple of days and it will come out looking perfect. Thanks man!!

Used modeler's paint and masking tape cleaned with similar polish etc ! Great take away - about specific Golf club paints available !! - didn't know that ! Thanks!

Great video man. I got some chips on my Titleist 917 and did the same thing. Put some touch up paint, taped it off, wet sanded and used my Rupes mini polisher to make it shine again. Amazing what an hour of work can do.

Just finished refinishing my RBZ Stage2 driver, which was in much, much worse condition than the one shown in the video. And unless you hold it in the bright sunlight, and at the perfect angle, you'll be hard pressed to tell that it had been painted.And to make sure I did it correctly, I watched the video six times before I got into it. Follow his directions to a T and you'll be more than amazed with the results.

hi this is at the start of your video but, I did this in my past and used Sharpe markers to fill in the scrapes . one tip from my experience is when you put your clubs in your bag put some cellotape around where shaft touches its resting point , this stops it wearing part of shaft thin . I did here a chap did not do this and one day he swung his driver it hit the ball but club snapped at that point. paul

That would be demoralizing if it happened on the very next round! 😂 But if you feel like those sky marks aren’t indicative of where your game is currently, then this is definitely the way to go. Especially if you can’t use it as an excuse to convince your wife that you need $600 for a new driver. 🤑

Just purchased a new Callaway Epic Driver. Had it for 3 days and didn't get the clubs strapped in the cart all the way. Clubs went tumbling out on the cart path and left a "divot" on the toe end of the driver. I did a quick fix with black enamel paint. Fortunately you can't see the mark on the top of the club (it is more on the end of the toe). I only wish I had sanded more, prior to painting, to get all the clear coat off. I'm sure your job looks 10x better! If this doesn't hold I'll order the paint and follow your instructions. I was just afraid to sand too much at the beginning-afraid I'd make a bad looking club look much worse! Great video.

Cool video. I will give it a try. I have a Mizuno with a lot of scratches on it, but love the club and ten feet away it doesn't look too bad. Up close it looks terrible. Hope to be able to improve the looks with some TLC during this offseason. Thanks again for the motivation! I needed to see your video.
@TheAverageBear4 жыл бұрын
If all you have is scratches, and those don't penetrate passed the clear coat, you may just be able to use some polishing compound to bring it back to life.
@Unencrypted3 жыл бұрын
Hey man. Came across this video and looks like it worked well for you. I have been doing several thin layers, hitting with the heat, then sanding. It feels like every time I sand more paint comes off than should. I just used the clarifying compound and it took almost all the paint off. Back to square 1. Any tips? What am I doing wrong?
@TheAverageBear3 жыл бұрын
The sanding should just be buffing. Light with a high grain wet dry paper. If i remember correctly i started with 1000 grit for the first layer then ended with 4000 grit. You really have to build up a good foundation of paint. Patience and a gentle touch is the key.

love this video! I plan on repairing my m2 as well. One question on the paint. I am only repairing a small chip out of the paint on a very random spot on the club head. Sort of top of the club near the toe end. does the paint give of no gloss at all? if i don't buy the polish and sand paper will i see a massive color difference? Thanks!
@TheAverageBear7 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Golf SD only my experience... The GPI paint was much like car touch up paint. So it is glossy and color matched. I used the sanding polishing because of the extent of the paint damage. Without it the paint would be uneven and to noticable. Using that method there is only a Polishing shine, and no top coat, though I could've just done a top coat and sanded with a very fine grit to really finish it off. If you only have a small chip, depending on your level of OCD, just a couple coats of spot touch up should work.

@TheAverageBear4 жыл бұрын
Yikes. Make sure you mask properly, use the right grain paper, and don't over sand. Full curing and light sanding in stages goes a long way.

Would this work on a Cobra F7+. Since it has the matte finish and all?
@TheAverageBear7 жыл бұрын
From what I understand matte finishes can be tricky because of the way they're applied. You can't polish them, and it's tough to color match because of the reflectivity and the matte clear coat. There are touch up paints, but I've never tried them on a matte finish; and it's likely a different process.

Do you have any idea how to remove scratches off the carbon fibre part of the crown ?

Hello Man, I have some of the sky-marks on my M2 too. Just a quick question, did you apply a lot of pressure when you sand it down on each step between painting? Well done! I am excited to see how mine turns out :)
@TheAverageBear7 жыл бұрын
940894 I find multiple layers of light coats and light pressure work better than heavy of each. You don't want to disrupt the paint more than necessary to repair it, but you do want to include the surrounding area for blending.

I had the same problem; there is NO PAINT known to man that will repair sky marks, I've tried them all - and on a TM driver too. Best solution I found? Buy a Titleist driver - they don't mark.
@eoinm57587 жыл бұрын
Can take that sky mark off with a bit of tcut wax just dont do it over the taylormade sign
@tomstuppence6052 жыл бұрын
Don't bother taping the face or sanding the face between coats, use T-cut or similar once you have painted the chipped area and that will create a smooth finish on its own because its a cutting compound, it also easily removes the paint from the face. So no tape and no sanding = alot of time saved
@TheAverageBear2 жыл бұрын
You don't want to scuff the black or treated finish of the face. Plus on this head the paint came down onto the face so I needed to make sure the line was sharp.
@TWTexasA1 Жыл бұрын
The biggest mistake you can make is not allowing the paint to dry . Yes the hair dryer will help but the key is time. At least a couple days before applying tape to paint a second color or more. Don’t waste all that hard work and end up with thumb prints in your paint….✌🏼✌🏼
@wubbagubba85233 жыл бұрын
i like the video, but i would think wearing gloves after wiping down with alcohol would mitigate getting dirt and oils from your hands.
@rockymannos78485 жыл бұрын
Looks good but you made it much harder than it needed to be. Instead of using touch up paint just use enamel or even better, epoxy rattle can paint and repaint the entire head. Sand with 400 or red scotch brite. Mask off what you don’t want painted, make sure it’s sanded well and and clean before paint. After the paint is applied bake it in the oven on 350 for 5-10 mins so it bakes on. I usually paint 3 coats and bake for 5 mins after each coat and 10 mins after the final coat.
@TheAverageBear4 жыл бұрын
I would've done that but with this club the white paint into the fiber crown was seamless. Taping of the carbon area would've ruined the transition and I didn't know if I could send that area. Also didn't want to do a clearcoat.
