Spinach is one of the easiest veggies in the world to dehydrate. Turn it into powder for making fresh pasta, smoothies, soups, and even green eggs and ham! Spinach powder is great to have in your food storage for quick soups as well. It is loaded with nutrition and increases the food value of any recipe you use it for.

A great tip to hold the powder down in the Vitamix or an blender, is loosely put plastic wrap over the top before putting the cover on the container. You won’t lose powder on the lid or be so overwhelmed by the powder when removing the lid. I also dehydrate the stems of the spinach leaves.

Haha, this video made me chuckle. My thirty-year-old "hipster" son (he hates it when I call him that,) comes up to visit us in the country from the city a lot. In the morning he goes out to harvest nettles, usually collecting about half a bucket. I always tell him, whilst it's great that he loves to forage here, don't bother with the nettles because by the time they are time consumingly prepared (yes, by moi, naturally,) all that effort only produces about 1/4 of a cup of food! I'll stick to frozen spinach. Cheers from Oz! 🦘

I put the spinach powder in my morning mixed-Berry fruit smoothie along with cinnamon, a banana, whole milk, and chia seeds. My doctor waves the paper with my test results on it at me and grins! Good food is life! I started powdering with ancho chilis several years ago. Soak in hot water, remove stems and seeds, then purée and dehydrate, then powder. Pure ancho chili powder is wonderful! I have been freezing my chipotle peppers in adobo, but I think I will try puréing and powdering those as well. The new dehydrator arriving tomorrow will take the stress off my Breville oven! I gave up on using a dehydrator. The first one was too hot and warped the trays. The second one, the heating element gave out. Thankfully, I was able to return them both for refunds. Since then, I've stuck with my oven. Now, most things are 150° and lower. My oven is at 170°. So I set the timer for 2 hours less and really watch my produce. It works.

Will you be doing a video on spinach pasta?
@RoseRedHomestead
@RoseRedHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
I have done a video on green pasta using asparagus powder! We could do one on spinach, but it would be the same recipe except using spinach powder instead.

Why don't you freeze dry it?
@RoseRedHomestead
@RoseRedHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
I did not see an advantage to using my freeze dryer. The dehydrator is very fast with spinach--faster than the FD is. Plus, I was going to powder it as well. You could certainly use a FD if you prefer.

I know how you feel. My wife dehydrated 12 trays of yellow bell peppers and all we got was a half pint jar of bell pepper powder.
