I meet Glen at Bank of America few years back when he moved from tampa to kendall florida it was really cool, we were talking outside the bank for like half hour about random stuff , and about a week after that deicide played a show at club flavors in coconut grove Glen was hanging out with us drinking beer while local bands were playing awesome day.

Christopher Mott it’s not really Glen Benton in the situation. From what I know Eric & Brian are still pretty pissed about the Scars Of The Crucifix royalties. Plus they caused so much trouble for Deicide at the time that Steve and Glen are doing much better as a band without them. As a Deicide fan myself it sucks the Hoffman’s aren’t in the band, I miss their amazing strong guitar tone and sound they brought but it sounds like they burned many bridges with Glen and Steve already, it’s just best that they don’t join back .

I never thought about this when I first saw Behind the Scars in 2004. In retrospect, it is clear that the Hoffman's & Glen/Steve were not on good terms during filming. There isn't one scene in this documentary that shows all 4 members together except when they are rehearsing songs. Hoffman's in the hotel alone. Steve hanging out at Glens house by himself. It was a fragile business relationship only by this stage & who's gonna jump ship first.

I think his shotgun is a Mossberg 500 pistol grip. I have the Mossberg Shockwave which is the 590 platform. Odd how even some firearm guys say it's a range toy. It's still a 12 gauge and even with the raptor grip and the heavier barrel, the recoil still kicks even with some mitigation. I mean, a 12 gauge that can shoot 3 inch slugs. I like it, but I certainly wouldn't call it a toy/range toy. Funny how even firearms people call it that---have they even shot one off? It's powerful enough to change someone's mind pretty quick.

Roberto Hernandez: Fear not. Glen Bentnose got his karma for torturing animals a long time ago. He was severely beaten up by an animal-rights dude in England back in 1993. The fat waste of space had been talking about burning squirrels to death, and the animals-rights protesters stormed the dressing-room in Bradford. Two of them kept watch, while one of them punched Benton in the face. He told him why he was doing it, and Benton tried lying his way out of the beating - it was publicity, he hadn't really done it, his best friend loved squirrels, etc. - but the guy saw he was lying, and beat him unconscious. His bass was smashed - and the bastard couldn't play it anyway. Benton is a loser, talentless, weak, and as stupid as they come.

3:34 I know what Glen's overall point was here. It make sense too. When a band goes into a studio to record an album, pay$$$ up, etc. they're going there to make art. There's definitely good reason to take your time, even record separate tracks if you think that's going to help pronunciation of words. As long as you practice your vocals a lot, and have band rehearsal a lot and practice with the band and such, then obviously you're gonna figure out how to perform it straight through live (and usually... these guys already know how to do it straight through, before going into the studio to record a studio version that has better quality than "raw" recordings). It's probably just hard for most vocalists to dead-on explain that off the top of their heads when asked directly like that by someone who's 100% clueless, as the interviewer sounded. haha

Me and a couple friends of mine met him briefly in St. Paul back in 2005. We're like killer show dude and he seemed pretty genuine when he thanked us and appreciated the fact we came to see them. It's funny hearing all the stories near the end of this video about the maniquin being full of cows guts etc lol. They must have seen too many Carnivore shows with Pete Steele of Type O Negative's old band. Carnivore shows use to be insane with pigs hanging from the ceiling & Pete would throw out pig guts & eye balls to the crowd. & this was way before Deicide came out but I still love Deicide's music. It's also funny seeing all these Tampa Bay/Florida death metal bands practicing in these storage sheds,they don't have to worry about the cold weather coming in. I'm in Canada & we can't get away with practicing in storage sheds here lol, well I guess we could from about May - September & then that would be about it lol. We have to use the old basements of houses in which i'm sure a shit load of people/kids do. But that was so iconic seeing the late 80's & 90's death metal bands practicing in storage sheds like Death,Morbid Angel,Obituary,Possessed,Six Feet Under,Nocturnus,Athiest,Diabolic,Malevolent Creation,etc. Those bands are the pioneers of the death metal genre & the classic Morrisound Studios in Tampa Bay. I'd love to go to florida someday to check out Morrisound Studios & catch a death metal show in the flesh. I seen Obituary in 1997 in London,Ontario & this was in January so it was freezing cold & tons of snow & out walks the Obituary guys from their tour bus wearing their shorts & t-shirts lol. & i'm like I see you guys dressed for the occasion lol, & lead vocalist John Tardy is like I honestly don't own a pair of pants lol.

My gripes with this documentary. Not enough interviews with the band, not enough footage of them on the road or in the studio, the bit of the drummer showing off his guns was nothing, the torture of the lizard was unnecessary. Maybe if they talked a bit more about the album, talk a bit more about their inspirations, possibly see Glen's life as a dad a bit and how he tries to balance work and family?? Probably go into further details about choosing satanism over any other religion. Yeah I gotta say, while there are some decent bits about the music, this doc was a nothing burger. I feel it was properly prepared or anything, earache just sent in a few guys with cameras and told them "just get some footage and ask them a few things, I don't care what" which resulted in.....this!...yeah, can't say I was super impressed. Love Deicide, but this could have been handled a lot better.

Glen was about to join Vital Remains, then Earache made them the 50/50 offer, which was based on who wrote what. Eric wrote two songs and Brian wrote one. They probably didn't even read the contracts because they thought it was split four ways. If you read just about any interview with Eric, it's clear that he just doesn't give a shit.

+aaronmb3 Im connected to Eric's facebook (through friend request from a few years ago), he used to make a lot of rants about Glen and Steve, saying he wants to kick their asses, especially Glen. Eric usually deletes his rants within an hour or two after posting them. The last one was right after him and his brother lost the lawsuit that they made against Glen for allegedly keeping all the royalty money for Scars of the Crucifix. He was super pissed off, and wrote a long rant about how Glen fucked him out of tens of thousands of dollars, then he deleted the post a day or two later. I dont think Eric has made another rant since then. His band Amon is not doing well either.

Alot of people who listen to this kind of music seem to have one thing in common - they were brought up as Catholics and maybe were forced to go to that 'church' as kids, or maybe had some other negative experience. And shame and guilt seems to be part of the core experience of growing up as a Catholic. So now maybe they regulate the residue of those negative emotions by listening to this kind of music. These people had religion but never knew Jesus. Come to the real Jesus and he'll give you true joy and true peace. You won't find that in this music or in an empty and dead religion.

I got into these guys in the early 90's when I was 12-13. My friend had an older brother who had a ton of death metal tapes. Before this, I was only exposed to the more mainstream thrash bands. I'm still not a giant fan of death metal, only the earlier stuff for the nostalgia factor but there are a few bands that made a huge impression on me and Deicide stood out a lot. I remember copying the self title and Legion. Death is another band that I really dig and later found Cryptopsy. Love the vocals on Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness. Glen, the Hoffman brothers and especially Steve Asheim (his drumming sounds like Roman soldiers whipping Jews on a cross) What blew me away was how tight these guys were live. I finally understood the appeal and once I got accustomed to it, everything else got a lot more boring by comparison.
