Love your WJ Videos! I have owned a XK Commander 4.7L with QTII for a couple of months now, and it seems like even though the body style and front axle changed between the WJ and WK/XK, there is a lot still the same. Between you and MartinBuilt, I feel like I have learned a ton about my new 4.7L Jeep. I still have my 08 Liberty (built rig) with the 3.7 that I’ve owned for almost 14 years I and enjoy wheeling that one. The XK is now the reliable family hauler, and your channel helps keep it happy and on the road. Thanks for being here!

So happy you found the problem Doug! That corrosion can be some nasty stuff, that's for sure. At 246,000 miles my 4.7 WJ has yet to have a SKIM issue...I'm crossing my fingers 4 sure. Actually have had no electrical problems at all except for a bad radio...can't complain! WAY less electrical issues than the WK Grand Cherokees; those things are notoriously bad.

I have a 97 zj that is my daily and my goal is to remove all the pointless problematic crap last year I spent prolly three months chasing an issue that turned out to be a bad ecu it wouldn’t start sometimes sometimes would start if u left the key in the in position for extended periods is was a nightmare but got that sorted my next plan is converting to crank windows I know some of the very early zjs had them but the later didn’t but I think I can fab somethin up to work I hope so I can get rid of the stupid power windows.

l have the issues you describe and thought it was a grounding issue too but no luck sorting it out as yet. I look forward to looking into the skim as the first light to go on in the dash is the 'key' and then all others follow and the gauges stop working. I hope this is the answer. My 99 WJ has just ticked over 100,000 km (60,000 miles) and I am hoping it will see me out until they put me in a box. Andrew, Melbourne Australia

I need to go through my wk2 fuses, rear defroster and drivers heated seat stopped working. Hoping it’s a fuse issue and not the elements. Also just started having key not detected issues. 🤦🏼♂️

Nothing worse than having the problem in your hands and thinking that wasn't the problem. Then finding out later if you just would have been smart enough to change it that would have solved the problem way back then.

Haven't had that issue YET, 245k on the clock... I was thinking about doing the ECU, but would have to come up with another anti theft device. Would a hidden kill switch be sufficient enough?

Can you do a video on the RKE unit for the jeep xj, I'm in Australian & it's a headache if you lose your key fob your stuffed. & you have to have the RKE in for it to work

Looking for advice. 00 wj 4.0. Last night the skim light stayed on longer than the other dash warning lights but did go out. Twice now over several months all dash warning lights have come on and speedo stops working while driving. Would this be related more to a skim or an ignition switch issue?

4.7L WJ skim hack... unplug the skim unit.. go to a junk yard of your choosing, pull any 4.7lL Dakota PCM. take it home and plug it in. Dakota do not have SKIM but the PCM will start and run your 4.7L WJ..

My WJ would just randomly shut off on me. In the driveway, going 60 down the highway, at stoplights, somedays it wouldn't do it at all, other days It would shut off (Throw no codes BTW) and start right back up, and shut off just a couple minutes later. Every time it shut off on me, I would pull over, sit on the road for a minute and it would start right back up like nothing ever happened, and most of the time, it would do it just once and wouldn't do it for the rest of the day. I replaced the ECU, the SKIM, fuses, relays, it would still do this. And every time It would do this, no codes. I thought it was a wiring harness issue. So I would let it run, for 30 minutes all the while I am violently pulling, ripping on the all of the harness under the hoop. I was not gentle. I would take a hammer to the power dist box and it would not, WOULD NOT shut off on me. Next day, I get in it, go to work, get half way to work and it dies. Time of day, temp, weather did not matter. Sometimes It would die in the morning, sometimes not at all. Sometimes It would only do this in the afternoon on the way home, sometimes only in the morning and not in the afternoon, then there are times I would go almost a week without it dying randomly, and then some times It would die every time I started it up and shut it off. There was no rhyme or reason. I would have everything on in the car, nothing on, it didn't matter. Still to this day, I can not figure it out and it doesn't matter anymore, The rust has gotten to her and she will no longer pass NY's yearly inspection. But I am pulling the 4 litter and the transmission. When it runs, it runs great with 239,000 miles on it. I just can't send the drivetrain to the scrap yard. IDK what I'm going to do with it, but I'll figure it out someday. It's a 2004 and this problem started up after I did a brake job on it. Had zero issues with it before then.

Two big possibilities - fuel system. If you haven't already, replace the fuel pump and filters, and blow out the lines while you're at it (blow compressed air into the line connected to the fuel rail). Also, the big 3 grounds on the bottom of the engine block (2 on the right, 1 on the left) unbolt them and clean them thoroughly until you see bare metal. Recommending this because I had literally the same issue.

To confirm the fuel pump, you'll need to measure the amperage draw. Mine was failing, but not failed, and would intermittently stop. Any draw less than 7 amps (mine was 1-1.5),replace it.

I have a parasitic draw on my 2002 that drains my battery in a few days if you don’t drive it daily. I have yet to find the cause. Anyone had that issue?
