@@viking956 that is totally incorrect. The home team game management is responsible for the safety of ALL game participants. Del Campo HS should've made sure the umps had a safe facilty or secure area exclusive to the game officials. This is completely on the home team for this. These umps are contractors. The scholl must provide them with a safe place to work. The people whoattacked those ups should've been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The problem took place on the Del Campo HS campus. Am I crazy or is this a completely misleading report? It's presented as the game was forfeited because of the fight. But 1:16-1:26 clearly says that CIF made the forfeit because they took batting practice when they weren't supposed to take batting practice. They forfeited because they broke competition rules. NO ONE was punished for the fight. Sure, it seems like CIF is dropping the ball in terms of responsibility for the fight. But they did NOT punish Del Campo as a result of the fight as the reporting implies (and everyone in the comments seems to have taken away from it). They punished them for breaking rules.

The reason for disallowing batting practice before the game is because the visiting team has no opportunity to take batting practice. The reality of the situation is that visiting teams arrive at the game anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour before game time. There is no way both teams can take infield and batting practice in that time frame. These are high school teams whose players actually have to attend classes on game day. Playoff dates and times are set by the CIF Section, not the schools. Invariably, the dates are during the week when school is in session. A school will let the players out early to travel to the game site, but they are NOT going to let them out early enough to take batting practice for an hour. That is just the way it is. The coaches know this and for the home team to have taken batting practice and received a forfeit is no one's fault except the coach.

That's all the research I did, so I don't know who ultimately won the series between these two teams. I am not a baseball fan.

It amazes me how parents act when concerning something as stupid as sports! My son played baseball, basketball, football. I helped with baseball when he was young but when he got older I would always stand off to the side because parents ruined the experience just wanting to watch him play. Football was the worst! I would never sit in the bleachers. Everyone thinks their kid is gonna be the next big thing and get so worked up over it. I'm glad my son graduated. Parents need to just chill out!

This is TOTAL clickbait. If YT had a block function, this site would get it. The school was stripped not bc of what happened in the parking lot, but bc they broke the rules BEFORE the game ever happened. The reporter never once questioned the coaches about this while they got on their soapboxes about how it's so unfair. This is journalism/newscasting in the modern era: Forget the truth, let's highlight a parking lot fistfight that is irrelevant to the headline

I mean , the report skipped over it super fast, but it seems that the school is being punished for allowing their players to participate in batting practice during the school day; thus gaining a competitive advantage that warrants a punishment. That THIS trash is what counts for journalism today is horrifying.

They didn't make you forfeit because of the fight. They've made you forfeit because you got caught having batting practice during school hours when the players should have been in class. That is a violation. Suck it up and take responsibility for pulling your players from class for BP. Coaches need to act like men, and take responsibility . Just because the visiting parents fought with the empire's doesn't mean you didn't break the rules.

This kind of behaviour is why I pulled my son from T-ball, many years ago. The parents are the absolute WORST. The lack of respect and the number of people who think their child is the next million dollar player is too much. One parent showed up at a game with a gun to threaten an ump. He was arrested, but that was the last straw…… a Tball game. Really? They are teaching their children well…………. It’s a shame that the students pay the price for this bad behaviour

Assault on any official in any sport should be legally treated. Yes officials make mistakes like players do. Maybe parents should put on a coaches or officials uniform and see what it's like dealing with idiots.
