In horses we wait until the cord stops pumping before the mare or we separate the cord. That way the blood all goes to the baby.

Something that has never made sense to me is why even if the baby needs “ resuscitation” ... when it first comes out, why would they disconnect the baby from a line where they’re getting oxygen?

From my experience the cord should be used as part of the resuscitation in stead of cutting, it, when s baby is born flat. The cord is similar to an electrical wire, connected to a power supply which is the placenta, the wire/umblical cord is compressed, during birth preventing proper voltage /oxygen from reaching the baby, hence the cord should be used to jump-start the flat baby, with blood and oxygen,, stem cells, neurons, neurotransmitters,fluid replacement. So baby can turn from pale to pink, baby can cry, instead of cutting the cord/ cable wire.

@@sarahlavonne hello, I have question. Whether the placenta or umbilical cord gets infection by the microbes in the air or by the place where we keep in the process of delay cord cramping
@melissamourgan2420
@melissamourgan2420 3 жыл бұрын
@@ushaa8090 no risk of infection because mother is given antibiotics in the case of a c section because of the abdominal incision. In vaginal birth the placenta organ will detach from the wall of the uterus and exit the body through the birth canal same way baby exits in vaginal birth. So there’s no lingering umbilical cord in mother. Baby’s cord will dry up and fall off usually takes about two weeks.

Louisa Capell 15 minutes?! By then, the placenta is delivered and isn’t pulsating at all. One to three minutes (and three is pushing it) is all that is necessary.
@louisacapell
@louisacapell 5 жыл бұрын
@@topanga26 right, wait until it's delivered, and no longer pulsing, and white. This can take 15 min. Are you really suggesting the placenta,will be delivered one to three minutes after baby? In all cases? It can take 30 min for placenta to come away on the long side.
@topanga26
@topanga26 5 жыл бұрын
Louisa Capell I have seen a placenta take more than 10 minutes to come out ONCE. Most are out around the 6 minute mark and by the time it’s delivered it’s been partially detached from the uterus already and not pulsating. If it’s not pulsating, the blood is pooling in the cord. Once it’s stops pulsating, there is no reason to not clamp.

Miss Powers really?? Mine was super beneficial... I know birth doesn’t go according to plan the way women always want it to but I found for myself a birth plan helped me know what I desired and why. It was a goal I was shooting for but ultimately I wanted a healthy baby so whatever means it took to get that baby into my arms was the best way. Why do you think it’s useless and hilarious?
@topanga26
@topanga26 5 жыл бұрын
Bridget Teyler basically you are asking for things to go the complete opposite way you *plan* for it to go. The universe has a way of letting you know you are not in control of childbirth. I swear, the more detailed the birth plan, the more likely problems arise. Not because of hospital staff but because it just always seems to play out like that. The more “live and let live” you are about your labor and delivery and breastfeeding , the more likely you will be successful. The more control and pressure, the more likely issues will arise!

@@topanga26 why not stop being an entitled "oh, I help deliver babies", negative person. Are you a trained and certified OB/GYN, midwife or doula?! I've seen your judgemental comments on other comments. There are LITERALLY WOMEN giving birth everyday and doing this until the cord stops pulsating and their babies are doing just fine and well. Just because some women take 5 min doesn't mean they all do. Some take longer and OBs and Nursing staff have for too long bullied MOTHERS using fear tactics into what the hospital wants not the mothers need which are VERY IMPORTANT just as well as the child's. No mother wants anything bad to happen to their child, the more detail the better the HOSPITAL and STAFF have an understanding that THEY WORK FOR THE PATIENT WHO PAYS THEM NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. You don't pay someone for a service and then they take the reigns on the whole thing and you just sit there and get what you get, when it isn't what you asked or paid for. Doctors are the employees and patients who pay cash or insurance are the employers. You work for the person not the other way around and you all are so entitled. Yes, we get it life doesn't go according to plan, but when a BIRTHING PLANS says "NO, I DO NOT CONSENT TO (X, Y, or Z)", THAT MEANS NO CONSENT to whatever YOU FEEL IS BEST when sometimes the staff doesn't have the mother or child's best interest and can and HAVE caused injury to one or both and yet, where are the repercussions? Oh, that's right its the hospital staff vs a parent. Who do you think wins that battle. Why so you think, magically, hospitals across the nation are trying to ban filming the birth? Because they keep getting sued for violating the mothers right consent laws which is malpractice which also resulted in some injuries to babies and some treatments the mothers didn't want nor ask for and explicitly told staff not to do multiple times during the event. Don't push your bullshit that doctors know best on mothers because when its a mother and baby vs an OB and their staff as well as the hospital because of something the doctor caused and injured one or both of them the entire hospital WILL NOT ADMIT FAULT to their decisions. They are about money at the end of the day, period. Not about the children or the parents. That doesn't mean all doctors are bad people, it means they have an obligation to the hospital at the end of their day for monetary gain and to not lose their job or get the hospital sued, despite the oath they took to put the patient first.

Ladies please stress this to your birth advocate because once that baby comes out that's all you'll be focused on. After my first birth my husband stopped the doctor and told him, "we want to delay clamping." The doctor told him no, and then placenta needed to come out immediately, and he ripped it out of me. I have only ever heard of this happening to one other mother and she hemmoraged from it. I dont know why he did this other than he was in a rush. He said the placenta was too close to my cervix. Because of this my son didnt get delayed claimping and had jaundice for about 4 days. My 2nd son had delayed clamping and I delivered the placenta normally and all was well.
@chloeprint-lambert4750
@chloeprint-lambert4750 5 жыл бұрын
green plumbob immediate cord clamping is not a cause for Jaundice. Delayed cord clamping means you have more red blood cells in their body, so they have more red blood cells to break down and causes a higher potential for Jaundice. Most say the increased risk of jaundice is outweighed by the benefits of cord clamping, but not having it is not the reason your baby got jaundice.

I totally agree and actually brought this up to my dr today at my appt and she said their protocol is to just wait 1 min then cut it. I told her I wanted to have it cut after a few minutes until the cord stops pulsing and she just repeated that they wait 1 minute....I’m beyond frustrated with drs and wish I could have a home birth but don’t trust the safety of having my baby at home. I have a friend who had serious complications for her home birth and now her baby has cerebral palsy. The midwife should have sent her to the er way sooner cause the baby was coming out butt first. The dr said the blood will start pulsing back into the he placenta and cause anemia if not cut after one minute...I’m torn at what to do

Sounds like you have an uneducated doctor as people do much later delayed cord clamping everyday without issue. I'd get a new doctor at all costs. Find a doctor who believes they work for you, not you for them. After 3 hospital births, my last homebirth was by far the safest delivery. Get a good midwife. Do your research. This is your child. Don't give in to bullies.

They call it a retained placenta when it doesn't detach within 30 min after baby is born. To check that theres not pieces left they examine the placenta after it comes out to see that it's intact. They can usually tell if it's whole or not.

An informative video! What we’re currently using in school is 2-3 minutes before clamping. I think it would also have been important to emphasize that the baby does not need all the blood in the placenta because there have been studies that show that milking blood or pushing blood forcibly toward the baby causes too much of an increase in the baby’s hematocrit level which comes with its own risks. But a very informative video

Thank you for sharing your information about delayed blood cord clamping. I am not due until may 2019, but it's my first time being pregnant so I've been trying to gain and harbor as much information in terms of pregnancy, labor and delivery, post partum, etc as I can so I can be as prepared as one can really be in terms of having a baby. I had debated this and wanted to do it with my delivery. But I did hear from someone that they were told by a doctor that it's kind of pointless to wait if the baby is upright on your chest because of gravity keeping the blood from actually traveling up to the baby(?) I think he was pretty much saying that unless you hold the baby down where gravity is working for you, he believes delayed cord clamping to be kind of pointless(?) I just wanted to know your thoughts on that?

Even for babies who need resuscitation, it's recommended to bring the equipment to the baby, rather than cut the cord to bring the baby to the equipment.

I’ve heard of this a while ago... & it definitely caught my interest! I’ll be so upset if my dr says we can’t delay cord clamping🙄 I’m due Feb. 11th & I’m going to have my next baby at home because some hospitals have too many stipulations even when it’s your birth experience, it’s frustrating!

With my first it was immediately cut. With my second the hospital offered delayed cord clamping. My first baby needed to be resuscitated so we went over what would happen with my second, they allowed for bub to be resuscitated on my lap and he was and everything turned out great. I would say it would be confronting having baby resuscitated right there ontop of you, but after my first I was a little more calm and collected about it and I preferred him be there with me rather then being taken from me and I’m left worried about if he is okay or not

We are thinking of donating the cord blood. But for that, you have to clamp the cord immediately. What do you think about that? Maybe I missed something in the video but I did't catch you mentioning the option.

Blueblondiiee because there aren’t any risk factors. Well, there’s an extremely slight chance of baby getting jaundice but that’s.

The volume of fluid dosn't change, its a cycle as the blood goes in it also comes out. The difference will be in the hormones which are being defused in to the babies bodies.

How do I advocate for myself and ask for this without a doula or midwife? I'm due in Nov with my first baby and I'm super nervous about asking for things like this and getting flipped over so I can give birth on my side because I plan on getting the epidural LOL.

I don't think it's possible with a c-section.
@mandyfister74

Look up gentle cesarian. Mama natural has info on this. If you have a scheduled c section it's more likely to get a gentle cesarian where you could possibly request delayed cord clamping. But if it's an emergency c section it's way less likely.

If the cord is still pumping and attached, then it gives the baby extra time to start breathing while still getting oxygenated blood. So... Can you refute that? Babies can be born and stay underwater as long as the cord is attached, so....? I don't think the baby not breathing immediately is grounds to cut the cord. Doesn't make sense to me.

Can you make a video on taking the placenta home from hospital?
@OnsceneDC
@OnsceneDC Жыл бұрын
Question- what do they do with the placentas? I asked to see mine and it was really interesting. They said at the hospital they were sending it to pathology. I assumed it was because they had to look at it for some reason, but they probably just have to dispose of them- maybe incinerate? Just curious.

Ok but once it stops pulsing what would be the point of keeping it attached? The blood can't get into the baby if it's not pulsing

@BhappyD
@BhappyD 5 жыл бұрын
AmadahyCatori A lotus birth is where once the baby is born, you do not cut the cord, even after the cord stops pulsating and the placenta is birthed. The cord is never clamped or cut, and the baby remains attached to the placenta until the cord naturally falls off on its own. This can take a few days or around a week. The placenta is usually put inside of a bag or container with some herbs and salt to prevent infection as well as odor, and the placenta will need to be carried around with the baby wherever the baby is moved or carried until it detaches itself from the babies belly button. It’s an interesting practice, but definitely not something I think I could do. There are not any proven benefits, and there is a risk of infection if not properly cared for, however many mothers swear by the practice and it’s supposed benefits. Many women also just choose to do it solely for spiritual reasons, as for some it is seen as honoring the natural birth process and giving their baby a gentle and gradual transition into the world without any unnatural intervention or severing of the ties between the mother’s womb and the baby too quickly.

pit safe to assume that in the case of a cesarean that there won’t be a delayed cord clamping because the placenta is (to the best of my knowledge) pulled out of the incision with the baby?
@thesaintmustwalkalone708
@thesaintmustwalkalone708 5 жыл бұрын
They can keep the placenta attached to the baby in most all cases (if not emergency for baby). They just don't because it takes a little more effort.

@ my pregnancy class they told us what delayed cord clamping is but recommended against it saying it can cause prob w/ the baby & infections etc. & my hospital will only delay cord clamping for like 30 sec. to a min if I remember correctly but they said to weigh the risks & benefits w/ your dr I'm thinking about asking my dr about this bc if their are benefits & it's not like what the nurses in my classes said then its something to look into thank you for this info
