This is a valuable asset to us modelers , can pick up accurate paint schemes and car numbers . Noticed how clean and un - graffiti the equipment is.

These videos of steam engines remind me of my childhood. There was a very busy train line near my house where I could see Trains both passenger and freight day and night.

I remember watching high hoods on Norfolk and Southern's main line into Knoxville TN back as a teen back in the mid 90s. There is a park in Faragutt Tennesee called Concord Park, which is now called Anchor Park, that offered some great rail fan-watching!

Long live SOUTHERN & Norfolk & Western . Remind me as kid watching Southern MP .72 on S Line got ride in last Southern Railway caboose conductor let me ride he said going be last caboose on S Line . Ride in Hot Box and switch over to NS it was a shock. Now S line is run by local freight only out of Spencer to Oyama on to Asheville NC . Then to Tennessee it's changed so much thanks to series brings back memories.

Great videoa. A healthy number of flat wheels, even back then. But did we ever call what we now normally term DPU’s “slaves”?
@DelayInBlockProductions
@DelayInBlockProductions Жыл бұрын
On the Southern and later Norfolk Southern, lead locomotives with radio control equipment were known as "Master" units while mid-train units were called "Slaves." As you can probably guess, the HR department at NS labled these terms as offensive in the late 1990s, so they went away and found more "sensitve" terms for mid-train units.

Tell me did painter ever catch 1218's last run through Georgia or South Carolina before being retired? I'm just curious because until this series aired I had no idea 1218 and 611 ran through gainesville, Lula and Toccoa. I've been to all 3 places but 30 years too late to have seen either engine.

ChainsawN&W1218, another great vintage RR video with the high hoods and all the old EMD and GE power, I love the A Class 2-6-6-4 # 1218 My favorite steam locomotive 🚂 and that single note hooter whistle, I live in Galax VA and have gone to the Virginia Museum Of Transportation since I was a kid, I wish they could one day restore the 1218 if You ever get up to Roanoke VA check out the Great 611 Steak 🥩 Company, VMT and O Winston Link Museum!🚂🛤

Mr. Painter, does a very good job of filming trains. Some others videos are out of focused and particularly irritating pan to quickly. Mr. P. seem to plan his shots well.

Ok, cabooses. My understanding was that they were largely gone by the early 80s, and remained on trains traversing VA until that state's law requiring them was repealed in 1987 (I think?) Clearly there is more to that story - do we know why these trains were continuing to operate with cabooses into the early 90s?

No. It’s been out of service since the end of the 1991 steam season. It hasn’t run since then, nor will it ever.

Vilket år blir det ändrat från en topp lampa till två lampor även nere på tåg i fronten. In which year will it be changed from one top lamp to two lamps even down on trains in the front Tack

It was mandated by 1997 but railroads gradually started adding them to older locomotives around 1993.

What was the purpose of the radio box car.
@2Railz
@2Railz 8 ай бұрын
It housed the radio equipment for the remote control systems, allowing one engineer to operate multiple locomotives spread throughout the train. The equipment was expensive and bulky, so having it in a separate car allowed it to be kept where it was needed. It could also work with any locomotive which had an MU connector. Later, this equipment got smaller and cheaper and so it was installed in more locomotives, negating the need for a separate radio receiver car.
