Dash-8s are awesome old locomotives on any railroad

Ride that train from Kalamazoo to Detroit to watch the baseball game. 180 miles in comfort. No traffic or parking stress. Nicest people ride trains. Seats are huge with all the leg room you could want. Bar serves good drinks not watered down and food is good.

Dash 8s are always a pleasure to see, I love how they have the GE freight look even though they're Amtrak units, something about it is just awesome to me. Loved the shot on the drone flhing ahead of NS freight, it had a Train Simulator style to it.

The Dash 8, coupled with the phase 4 scheme and the old school k5la. Just beautiful!

The coal tipple in this video is adjacent to US Highway 12. My dad used to work for CSX (and later so did I). As a railroad cop, my dad was here often, and so was I. He also worked as a Special Agent for the South Shore RR, seen in the orange and maroon livery, but he was on the passenger side of the company prior to the split between freight & passenger service, now administrated by NICTD.

I used to live about 25 minutes from the Amtrak line running from Porter to Michigan City. I lived about 10 minutes from the Amtrak corridor as it crosses into Porter County going east. Good times, indelible memories!

Really enjoyed the drone footage at the 18:00 mark. the quality of your videos is sooooo good! The crews don't get disturbed by your drone getting so close?
@DelayInBlockProductions Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! As far as flying goes, I normally wouldn’t attempt shots like that without knowing the crew and talking to them ahead of departure. Both the engineer and conductor on the B33 that night are close personal friends. Thanks for watching! -Drayton

i actually saw a BNSF warbonnet B40-8W duo today and both have PTC so they can lead anywhere, 558 and 542. 558 has fresher paint with BNSF lettering 542 has its og paint with ATSF lettering

nice video as always Drayton :) That switching took place along Second Street. If South Shore was doing switching along that line I'm not sure where their end point is.....

South of St.louis, I caught 518 leading the southbound Texas Eagle just after midnight Christmas eve 2022. It was bellow 0° and my camera didn't focus well for the video but I was excited to see a dash8 leading especially 518 as it was the dash8 I always had encounters with no matter the location. The horn sounded like it had a few chimes malfunctioning. I always loved the way k5la's sounded on the dash8s

Hey drayton you got them mixed up you mean the Amtrak B32-8WH because. Amtrak P32s are electric diesel. My bad for the correction 😅. And love your videos as always I’ve been watching since 5 years ago
@ADIX2400 Жыл бұрын
The official Amtrak classification had them classified as a P32-8WH. The other classifications were B32-8WH or P32-8.

Amtrak Oakland California OMF still has 2 Dash-8's. For Amtrak California. #5201 & #5202 former Amtrak #'s #501 & #502 they are pretty much retired but are still used for switching duties and when they are out of loco's

I was an AMT LA crew base engineer when we got stuck with these miserable machines. They were ordered by the Santa Feces but refused. GE offered them to AMT for 1.75 million each and some half wit fell for the line and bought them. The HEP takes away 1,100 hp and you have 2,100 left for traction. You had to fight the computer to run the train. Power or dynamic braking, that load meter was all over the dial, you couldn't find any place to set the needle. Good riddance to them.

I saw these locos, 518, 519 on the Michigan line in Kalamazoo County about 2 weeks ago.

i love the dash 8s they look like a freight loco but have been converted for passenger use you can even see it in its body stile, if they ever make a classic or retro livery for these id really like to see the old Pepsi can livery or something close

Question for DIB. I'm just curious to why most of your videos these days are recycled or repeated? I saw this movie with the Amtrak Dash 8s a few months ago and you already explained that they had to wait for special permission to be on the main line due to not having PTC. Im just curious why this video was repeated.
@DelayInBlockProductions Жыл бұрын
Basically, the original video was nearly 3hrs long and many people didn’t see the entire video. I thought uploading them in bite-sized clips would be helpful for those who missed this section of the longer video.

I feel like Dash 8’s we’re incredibly overlooked compared to Dash 7s’ and Dash 9’s. I think they were a nice middle ground between the 2 and it’s amazing to see them in action especially in Amtrak paint. They will be missed

I find it funny you are calling them by their Amtrak designations. They are best known as DASH 8-32BWH. Great research work.
@DelayInBlockProductions Жыл бұрын
Why would that be funny? That’s literally what Amtrak calls them and this is a video about Amtrak locomotives.
@crsrdash-840b5 Жыл бұрын
@@DelayInBlockProductions Its just I grew up with the series of the GE class. My friends and I always called them DASH 8 types. We did not learn of the P name until we saw it in the official roster book...do they still publish those?
@ernestpaniagua1210 Жыл бұрын
They still are

I think the cabs on those look weird. They look out of proportion to the rest of the locomotive. Only a narrow cab looks right on a four axle locomotive.
@danmathers141 Жыл бұрын
I didn't think Amtrak had much to do with freight.
