It was the crack of dawn of my birthday. I was snoozing on a couch with the TV still on. This performance came on. It woke me up and rolled me over, scrambling with both hands for the controller, to get that volume up!

Seriously. Delbert. Man. This was my dad's fave song and fave version. You have no idea how this resembled my dad's life. He died of suicide in December 23, 2013. You inspire people. I hope you know that.

I saw this live. It was 6.49 AM. Delbert was on despite the time. Brilliant performer. He just announced his retirement at 80. His equal will not be seen any time soon.

P.S. I met him backstage one night when he was in Knoxville, Tennessee. He had played his harmonica on some recordings of my husband Dale Houston of the duo Dale and Grace so he wanted to say "hi" to him when he was taking a break. The music was still playing loud when Delbert touched my elbow, and pulled me close, and said into my ear, "what did he say your name was?" I was immediately covered in chills all thru my body! I could barely speak my name back and told him "Pat". He replied, " You are beautiful Pat". That was truly one of the best 'moments' I have ever had!
