Top tip : When I polish stainless allen heads ect I put them in a drill and spin them against the rotation of the mop , 1 it's a lot safer because you have more control there is no heat to your fingers and no chance of the mop grabbing the work out of your hand and flinging it across the room 2 it gives a better finish because you can polish for longer ,, the drill chuck doesn't damage the treads either as long as you're sensible with the tightening , hope this helps .

Hi, when putting pipes on like you did while leaving the nuts on the studs, I sometimes put stainless domed nuts on the end of the stud's covering the exposed thread, it can save a lot of heartache in the future for either yourself or an other. On your move good luck with it, at the moment I am building a shed at the rear of my house for some of the bikes I have 23'x13' housing about 12 bikes it will leave my garage as my workshop. I also have a 24'x8' container bunged with projects the next being my 78 CBX I hope I will live long enough to complete. It's a way of life and keeps me penniless but content. Not Penny as in Penny.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Good call on the dome nuts, i can order some M8's for that once this is all taken care of, but the studs themselves being stainless it shouldn't be as much of an issue as it was with the factory fittings. I love containers, they make awesome garages, i saw the Jamie Robinson made a great bike barn from two 40ft boxes, placed 8ft apart, cut the opposing sides out, and made a roof between the two from the left over steel.. then just a gate on the front.. the benefits of having land to make all those cool dreams come true, not so easy when you live in an apartment.! And you're right, motorcycle addictions will keep you broke and happy all your life.!

OO steel wool? grinding wheel with scotchbrite? 2. What are those three short mystery bolts in the downpipes? Hi Eric, if you caught the project earlier on, the pipes came in and they were just black and corroded, I intended them for the bin, but on closer inspection they were actually chromed over stainless steel, with no under plating such as nickel r brass, just plan chrome on top of stainless, and the chrome corroded horribly, so I wire brushed it all off with Harpic, cleaned up the stainless with a fine Scotch pad disc , so effectively the answer is, it was nothing more than Scotchbrite to get the satin finish!... but if you want to polish dull exhausts, go with 800, then 1200, then polish from there and you'll get a great finish (oh and use some WD40 as a lubircant whist rubbing down with the paper!).

@@Moonfleet41 Thanks Del, much obliged. The pipes on my Adventurer were pretty dark and devoid of any chrome I knew they were SS when I tried a magnet on them. I hit them with a Scothbrite grinding wheel (red) and they came up a fairly nice silver-ish color w/a rough satin finish. Went over them a 2nd time with the green wheel, which is finer, and was pretty happy with that finish leading into the chrome exhaust. Then you ruined it and polished yours. Now I gotta think this over...:)

@@ericmowrey6872 Seriously mate, if this was going to be my bike, and I was gonna ride it every day, I just know I'd end up cleaning them with a Sctochbrite, trying to polish pipes by hand in situ is just pure torture!... finger stabbing, knuckle scraping horror, so this is as good as they'll probably ever look... hope that helps lol
@ericmowrey68724 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 I reckon you're right about that mate. Actually the brushed finish I have now looks good enough...might as well leave it. Got lots of other jobs to to do to have it finished for March-April.

@@ericmowrey6872 Exactly that mate, specially with Bandit pipes, they're not great quality stainless and keeping them polished would be impossible... Scotchbrite is your friend!

Nice job on the pipes Del. What are the 3 button head screws for up by the first bend? Good luck with your move and best of luck for success in the new spot. Stay well Bud.

Hey Joe, Those bolts plug up a hole in each pipe that was there initially for the factory to set up the carb mixture settings, they're of no real use after then, we don't have that kind of equipment in a home garage, so i just swapped out the ugly rusted hex bolts for a some tidy stainless button heads to look a little less obtrusive. Looking forward to the move and the next adventure.. Take care my friend ,and keep safe. Del

Sorry if it seemed evasive, we didn't wanna jinx anything, and we have so much to deal with as we're also moving Penny out of her high street shop and in to a 'maker space' in the new unit, so it's a three-way move! Lots of plates spinning, so just gotta blow through it!

Hi Del! What's the purpose of the wire brush on the buffing wheel at 5:56? Thanks from the Great White North. Good luck with the move.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi John, that is purely to clean it mate, the yellow wheel is for polishing with the soap and when you move to the white wheel, that is to buff off the residue of soap on the part and bring up the shine, and naturally the wheel picks up the soap and it builds up on the surface, so the brush just cleans it off!

yeah, in the plan.. just not our plan.. we only got a single one year lease here, and it seems that was why.. they always had a long term plan for development of the estate, and as long as we benefit in the right way, im really happy it's happening..

Thank you Raymond, im on the mend and getting better each day.. The only 3-1 system i could find anywhere was the 'Mass Moto" system from Italy.. they are rather ugly, and very expensive, which is why i made my own exhaust for this bike. !
