i LOVED the fact that you explained that you have to clean PRE sanding .. been telling friends to do that for ages, but they usualy just go " nah screw it paint will cover it " ofc told em it will bite em in the butt later down the line, but ah well, not my problem anymore since i warned them . again TY for mentioning that to the guys / gals wanting to paint theyr own tank .. well heck .. paint ANYTHING realy . Greetings from Denmark, one last thing after painting .. if u have a large bin, cover it in that so no dust ect falls into it .. also the sanding the runs .. tip here from DK .. use some body filler spred it across the run and out to around the area where you would be sanding, that way you will when sanding cause it to level evenly and you wont be cutting surrounding area to much, hope you understood what i ment here.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Yes buddy, have seen that done... it's a great trick and would make a big difference on a flat panel... but all the runs I have on the tank are curved, so it's just a matter of tedious, time consuming, stroking them out gently! Really appreciate you watching all the way from Denmark, and taking the time to comment and your input on tips mate, have a great weekend, D&Px

Hi John, very much so my friend, each video as you can see from the board is between 5 and 8 hours in the garage, and that nets about 3 hours raw footage, and that takes about 5 to 8 hours to edit and make into a meaningful 15 minute production.... but if thats what it takes to keep the support, enthusiasm and regard of our Patrons and viewers, then its well worth it... overall about 60 hours a week goes into KZbin activities, and its really rewarding most of the time..(if that makes sense..lol).. Thanks again for your kind support buddy, much appreciated.. Del.

Del, I screwed up my base coat stage! I applied 3 coats of black "Autoborne Sealer" too heavy with a 1.4 gun, and had some sagging. (This is for a metal flake paint job) Rectified the runs with a razor, but of course now I have lighter areas where I scraped the razor, so need to black it all out again, but ran out of the crazily expensive sealer base coat paint. Can I just run along to somewhere like Halfords and use any kind of automotive black spray paint to add to the existing sealer/base coat, so I can finally get on with using a binder and metal flake it all out? It's really hard because there is so little advice on how to remedy stupid mistakes like this on a budget, and I'm gradually losing the will with my project. Hope you can help! Cheers!

Loving your content as always!! I just wonder why you chose not to use 2k clear. I tried painting a tank with regular clear and all it took was a single drop of gas to ruin it. In warm dry conditions this clear coat will dry to handle in about 24 hours, and take maybe 3 months to fully cure. !

Great job Del! This is inspiration for me to go ahead and customise my tank and fenders with spray cans and metal flake, but can I just ask; Do you recall how many cans of primer, base coat, gloss, and clear coat you needed to complete the whole job from start to finish on this tank...? I'm roughly guessing it took perhaps 3-4 cans of each product? Thanks for your help in advance.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
With this project, as you can see with the visible bare metal, you don't need so much primer, but for a general 3 stage re-paint, 3 of each is fine... but with things like this, I find a supplier that is willing to return un-used cans, places like Halfords, then you can just buy 6 of each, use what you need and take back the rest... most economical way.
