There are many cut scenes and alternate versions of scenes in the workprint that are also in the book. The scene where Jen's told to see his master and when Jen and Kira dreamfast. If anyone has a copy of the workprint, edit all the bits not in tthe final movie edited together as a video.

It would have been pretty cruel and maybe not very realistic for Kira to loose both her biological and adoptive mother, keeping Ydra alive was a good decision.

Always felt so sorry for the podlings. The worst thing is that nobody cares about them. Kira: when my mother was killed they became my family...now they dragged off to be experimented on zombiefied and enslaved..oh well. And you can say what you want about them atleast they know how to throw a party. Its like how people with longer higher education look down on the blue collars we need them they there fir us but they are such simple creatures they not the same standard of life like us.

At what point did Kira ever not seem incredibly upset that her Podling "family", or at least some of them, were nabbed? She tells Jen that the Garthim having been taking them for some time. IE it is a horrible, tragic thing that has become commonplace. It isn't the first time it's happened, so while she is of course upset, it isn't a massive shock to her like it is to Jen. And besides that, she frees the taken Podlings later in the story.

In the novel, the scene in Aughra's observatory had more material and dialogue, apparently cut from the film. I recently reread the novel after over forty years, and it holds up quite well. I just wish Smith had been permitted to do more worldbuilding and fleshed out the setting with more detail and depth.

Yeah, at least when the Podling is drained it serves a purpose, to show how the Skeksis take the essence and explaining where the zombified Podlings came from, them accidentally falling to their deaths is just gratuitous. Especially if it's meant to cap off the scene where the Landstriders get horribly killed in the fight with the Garthim as they squeal to their death, have some fucking mercy.

Something tells me that there are a few parts of the Age of Resistance show, that Jim wouldn't have liked or agreed with either. I give them kudos for mostly sticking to his movie and the spirit of his vision. But there were definitely some parts of the show that I felt were gratuitous and totally unnecessary.

Great idea. I can explain more in a video but for now, chronologically in "Thra" time they would be: Creation Myths, Shadows,Song,Tides , Age of Resistance (from what we know), Legends, Tales, The Dark Crystal Movie (World of the Dark Crystal spanning from Creation Myths to end of Movie, Marvel just the movie adapted to comic, Novelization just covering movie), Power, then the upcoming Beneath the Dark Crystal. I'd have to disagree, the fall off the cliff and being crushed is far quicker of a demise. If they were drained, they'd likely live the rest of there lives as zombie like slaves.

Yes, they would have. But I think Jim's point, which I agree with, is that it was a really needless, tacked on thing, to just throw in "OOPS THEY FELL OFF THE CLIFF AND DIED". It stinks of the kind of scenes that would be in most modern shows, thrown in just because it's terrible, purely for "Shock value". The way it happens in the movie, they are captured yes, but even if Kira and Jen HADN'T freed them, which they do, they would have been restored from the "zombie state" once the Crystal was healed.

Haha, ya, there was still some brutality. I don't remember if that is mentioned as something he did in the past, like when they describing him, of if it was a scene were it happened at that moment.

It was in the past, but it was still pretty shocking. And the description of the Garthim raiding the Podling village was pretty gruesome too, with lines like “The floor was covered with Podling blood and flesh” and earlier it was specifically mentioned there were Podling babies in the room...
