i do believe that is delft clay, not sand, sand is hard to cast in and keep shape, "just noting, no push back"👍

note, i'm an idiot and did not watch all the way through, still not sand casting

You’re right … this sand is a product called Delft Clay, an oil bonded sand designed by a goldsmith for casting precious metals. I referred to it as sand as a casting technique, as a lot of people would not know the name Delft Clay or Petrobond and to call it an oil bonded sand is a bit of a mouthful. What ever common binders you use … oil, water, Resin or sodium silicate and co2, I think I would still consider it to be sand casting. I.e., a two part split mould (flask) that is packed with a casting medium to copy a removable model called a pattern. I suppose I was trying to appeal to the masses who may not know casting terminology … N

Wikipedia Sand casting, also known as sand molded casting, is a metal casting process characterized by using sand-known as casting sand-as the mold material. The term "sand casting" can also refer to an object produced via the sand casting process. Sand castings are produced in specialized factories called foundries. In 2003, over 60% of all metal castings were produced via sand casting. Molds made of sand are relatively cheap, and sufficiently refractory even for steel foundry use. In addition to the sand, a suitable bonding agent (usually clay) is mixed or occurs with the sand. The mixture is moistened, typically with water, but sometimes with other substances, to develop the strength and plasticity of the clay and to make the aggregate suitable for molding. The sand is typically contained in a system of frames or mold boxesknown as a flask. The mold cavities and gate system are created by compacting the sand around models called patterns, by carving directly into the sand, or via 3D printing … N
