Gordon Ramsay I think Delia has a point, Gordon. You have to be f'n independently wealthy to cook like most of you TV chefs. The average Joe can't afford to be that picky, but we still want to be able to make a half decent meal for our family. So far, my family's new favorite is Alton Brown's charcoal seared skirt steak. Cheap as hell, easy to make, and f'n amazing flavor. You don't get that with the average cooking show you know?

***** That's the case with shows like master chef, in which the point is for chefs to compete for a spot in high cuisine. But then there are a huge bunch of culinary shows that focus on easy to do everyday cooking. Ramsey's got one in which he cooks simple stuff for his own family. Jamie Oliver of course, also has a bunch of those. Especially those in which he does 15min or 30min meals. It's not like all food shows are about high cuisine.

You are right Dan B, but remember, if Gordon just cooked in the style you do at home, there would be no reason for people to go out to his restaurants (and he has dozens of high priced restaurants). So he has to make and cook foods that are specially prepared. If you want a cheap cheeseburger (and who doesn't!) just eat at home.

I've found that if you have a Nintendo DS, you can learn to cook reasonably inexpensive foods with "games" like Personal Trainer: Cooking, My Healthy Cooking Coach, and America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking. I've also heard good things about Cooking Mama. And they're no more than $20 each for around 250 recipes each.
