I worked in Lodi in the mid-1970's, and commuted on Rt 46. Many days I would stop at Hank's for my supper. Great memories of a great place!

Born and raised in Lodi for 38 yrs, ate hanks franks few times per week as a kid....even cut class at Lodi High and go for lunch...Now when I'm in the area myself with my wife and kids stop by, what great hot dogs

Took my wife there after her doctor told her that she was hours away from delivering our first child. I told the doctor that I think she’s going to deliver sooner. On his insistence we left and headed to Hank’s Franks. I barely ordered our dogs and she said she couldn’t wait and that we better get to Hackensack Hospital and forget the dogs. That was 43 years ago. We did get the dogs, but months later. Great dogs! Used to be able to order 9 for the price of 8. Lodi was a wonderful place to grow up in the sixties and seventies and even in the eighties. I never realized what a great education I received in old Lodi High until decades later and interacting with people who graduated from other high schools. Thanks for the best years of my life Lodi!!! And thanks to all the teachers who never gave up on me.

They still have the buy 8 get one free. As a kid, I always thought "who can eat that many" and now as an adult its not that crazy. When I hear of old Lodi stories it always sounds like a lawless wild-west city. Lol! You mentioned being in school in the 60's-70's, would you happen to know anyone with the name Coplan?

The history of these places that built America, the memories, the work ethic of small buisness owners and customer service. Theses places are woven into our history and a sad day when they dissapear. Glad to see this place still going, great food.

I was a regular customer of hanks Franks Friends of mine like Joe Inserra built the first enclosed hanks once the state gave Hank permissions to move to the island on the entrance to rte 46. I am now in Florida and mail order Sabrett Hot Dogs but would give anything for the Potato and Italian onion recipes. PLEASE HELP

Don’t look in the barrels out back…….hitmen ( well one in particular ) claimed to have put a body in one.
@newbietubie2 жыл бұрын
I thought that was further down route 46?
@CzechSixTv2 жыл бұрын
@@newbietubie It was. Sorta. The Iceman claimed to have dumped 55 gallon drums with bodies in them behind the hotel next to Harry's Corner which was on the border of South Hackensack and Little Ferry(Rt 46 and Phillips Ave). He said that way he could stop at Harry's to eat and see if the drums had moved or if anybody was talking about the bodies being found. The drums disappeared but I guess no one opened them because the story didn't come out until years after his arrest when he was interviewed. He's also reputed to have hung out at Turks Pub just down the road in Moonachie, though I can't confirm the veracity of that. Similar story about Harry's origin though. He started out with a hot dog cart on his brothers used car lot and eventually opened the brick & mortar place. Harry's didn't just serve dogs though. He was open for breakfast and late nights where you could get an egg sandwich with the same chili used on the dogs. I went to grade school barely a 1/4 mile from Harry's and used to ride my bike there for a 'double double'(double egg chili and cheese on a hard roll) all the time.
@newbietubie2 жыл бұрын
@@CzechSixTv This location is Lodi and although a stones throw from Hackensack, it is much further north-west from the locations you are referencing. I am almost certain that the bodies Richard Kuklinski left were further east on route 46. I was also unsure as to why Harry's was mentioned, because at Hank's Franks the son's name is Gary and I thought the father's nick name was Hank? Was it previously called Harry's Corner? That sounds like a delicious meal!
@CzechSixTv2 жыл бұрын
@@newbietubie I was agreeing with you that Kuklinski said he dumped the barrels elsewhere, not behind Hank's in Lodi as stated in the original comment from BK you replied to. That elsewhere is only 3 miles east on rt 46, behind a hotel next to another hot dog stand called Harry's Corner. Both Harry's and Hank's had been around since the late 50's or early 60's, though only Hank's remains. People not from the immediate area often get the two establishments confused because they were so close to each other on the same side of the same highway. They were also both next to used car dealers and both started out as carts before upgrading to brick and mortar buildings.
@newbietubie2 жыл бұрын
@@CzechSixTv Ahhh! Okay. I think that I was hung-up on the part where you said "it was" and then the further elaboration seemed as though it was supporting the claim of the bodies having bene left there; but in reality it was just bringing attention to the "sorta" portion of your comment. I think this whole discussion is rooted in the idea that the original comment seemed as though it was besmirching Hank's Franks. I also really appreciate the history of what you're talking about. I was unaware of the similarities of both establishments. I often find myself thinking about the other hot dog place, just a little further down 46 east. Lol! I think that it was called Nathans and went out of business, almost 20 years ago.
