This was a great watch. Funny enough, Pokémon FireRed was the first game I ever played heavily when I got a DS (the other options were Nintendogs and Brain Training), and to this day it is still my favourite Pokémon game. I loved the humour and the t̶e̶r̶r̶i̶b̶l̶e̶ amazing puns. Got quite a few chuckles out of this one. And the editing was very impressive as well. I would add another interpretation to "Thou shalt not steal": No picking up items that are lying around in occupied buildings (e.g. the Rocket hideout), since those items presumably already belong to other people.

Very cool concept. This might be more interesting in pokemon platinum or legends Arceus were "gods" are more prevalent. I'd say do not steal also applies to items found in people's houses, or even all field items. And you can honor your mother by making sure to talk to her every time you're in palate town.

@@V2ULTRAKill No, Nidorino is doing the equivalent of tripping someone. If you stick your foot out and someone gets hurt tripping over it, you should be held accountable. If Nidorino let someone hit his horn and get poisoned, he's a murderer. And because it's a Pokémon battle, it's no accident. The trainer is trying to make the enemies faint without direct attacks and instead relying on trickery which violates one of the commandments. The run should actually have the player knock the enemies out with weak attacks. No poisoning or confusion. Just weak attacks that ensures that the enemy would survive after fainting. No overkill moves. No 4x supereffective moves. No overleveled Pokémon. No one-hit-KO's. The only attacks dealt should only be those that make sure the opponent would be okay after the battle.

One commandment that you classified as inapplicable COULD actually be broken in game. Taking the Lord's name in vain. You could break it with a pokemon's nickname, but then you're going out of your way to break the commandment. Which makes me think of an alternate challenge. A playthrough where you break as many commandments as possible. You can even break "honor thy father and thy mother" by doing a Hoenn game and beating Norman with a pokemon nicknamed "Dad sucks" or something like that.

Makes it more fun that you don’t faint opponent pokemon but it technically wouldn’t break the commandment anyways, as “Murder” is unlawful and premeditated, where as fainting them or straight up killing them in this sense wouldn’t be unlawful, as they challenged you therefore provoking you and if they have a faster mon, they attack first making it self defense! But again, more fun trying to do it without that either way!

I have an idea for a similar challenge, but with the Seven Deadly Sins instead: Lust: No using Attract, and no Pokemon with the Ability Cute Charm Gluttony: No Pokemon with the ability Gluttony Greed: Don’t use any methods to obtain extra money, nor moves that steal items or HP from the opponent Sloth: …don’t use Rest? Not like that’s a bad thing, though, since it’s basically a poor man’s Recover Wrath: No attacking moves or status moves that directly inflict status conditions. Abilities like Rough Skin and Flame Body are okay, though; if your opponent is stupid enough to keep attacking your clearly harmful-to-the-touch Pokemon, it’s basically natural selection at that point Envy: No using green Pokemon Pride: Your Pokemon should be at no higher a level than the next Gym Leader’s ace

Great video! Just one thing, personally I would count the move Double Team as a “trickery” move. In the game it kinda represents it but I feel like it’s better represented in the anime, where it basically shows the Pokémon as making a bunch of fake clones (hence the name “double” (clone) “team” (a whole team of them)) so that the enemy can’t tell which is the real one, which is why evasiveness is raised in game, which sounds like trickery to me. Just something I considered while watching that I haven’t seen anyone else mention yet

Imagine a Pokémon game with 24 minute day-night cycles, and after every sixth one, the Sabbath would begin. On the Sabbath, you can no longer battle or level grind. You cannot travel with Pokémon beyond the limits of whatever town you are in. You cannot pick berries or gather items. You can talk to NPCs and receive items from them, but not money. You can play with and feed your Pokémon. You can eat foods for powerups unless you have eaten too recently. You can read lore. You can schedule battles for after the Sabbath. You cannot trade with other players. You have to spend 25 (yes, 25) minutes of real time observing the Sabbath. You are encouraged to step away from the controls and do IRL stuff. You have to read the same few text boxes over and over again about how you rested and ate, and your Pokémon rested and ate, and you spent a lovely time with the NPCs in that town and they were all very happy to be with you. The NPCs will love it and reward you later. Your Pokémon will love it. And you, the player, will hate it. …And then you will know what observing the Sabbath feels like.
