Hei from Norway. I have been in Denmark many times cause have family and friends there. The prizes of what you ate. If you eat at those fancy, tourists places the price is high. Especially after covid prices has gone up all over the place. But you can for much less prices if you ask the locals for advice. Middle of tourists streets in Copenhagen the prices are pricy, but there are places in the city where you get really good, typical danish food for much less prices. Look out for where the locals go to eat and what you eat. Those fancy smørbrød you had was in the food market. Lots of tourists there. The danes eat at home, but also go to restaurants, but they know where to go. Best places, little away from the tourists areas. Off the Main street. Very good advice is to Google while you are there and ask Google where is the best danish dishes for better prices. 😉and ask the locals. About the weather in Scandinavia. Cant always wait for the rain to stop 😂there is a saying in Norway: "there is nothing called bad weather, only bad clothes "! In norwegian it rymes 🙋‍♀️🌍🌤☔🌞👍

Hope you had a good time. Danes drink a lot of coffee and basically takes a cup along when eating pastries. Goes so well together and each enhances the taste of the other. A tourist tip I will recommend are to buy a day/days card to the Metro/public transport if you want to see a lot in a short time. Metro are basically running on windmill energy and departs every 2-3 minutes 24/7 so no need to consider timetable. Just show up and it will arrive and depart fast. Weather really have not been as usual around the globe. Climate extremes caused by the atmospheric carbon content and fast rising sea temperatures are catching up. I guess a little rain are to be preferred over drought fires, flooding s and hurricanes. July had the highest temperatures globally on average. Denmark, USA, Canada all have a full set of icecores and thus the politicians in those nations KNOW reality the glaciologists have proven. Denmark are transitioning more than most and we really wish everybody understood the following: "Through glaciology, we now have a YEAR BY YEAR knowledge of the planets atmospheric Carbon content (and much more) for a period more than 10 times longer since Homo Sapiens left the African continent the first time. For over 850.000 years our atmospheric Carbon content have been relative stable at 220 PPM. 3 times in the 850.000+ years have gigantic widespread global volcanic eruptions raised the Carbon content with 30 PPM and EACH time it have triggered longterm climate changes for a very long time before the planets regulating systems slowly have been able to bring it down to 220 PPM again. It are truth to state that a atmospheric Carbon content of 220 PPM created us and nearly all living species present on the globe with very few exceptions. Besides the Asteriod that hit Yucatan 66 million years ago the largest species extinctions we have been able to document have happened during the 3 times the atmospheric content rose with 30 PPM. Since the Industrial revolution, just a few hundred years ago, we have raised the atmospheric Carbon content from 220 PPM to now (2022 number) 417 PPM! So humans NOW have caused not a 30 PPM rise but unprecedented 197 PPM! We are right now in the largest species extinction period since the Asteriod hit Yucatan 66 million years ago! The worlds oceans are right now heating with the same energy added equalling 5 Hiroshima bombs PER SECOND! That are the sickening facts!" And acted accordingly! On a windy day Denmark already produces over 150% of our electricity sustainable primarily via offshore windmill parks.Average now around 60% and rising. Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany in January agreed and signed the worlds largest transition project that in a decade will transition 220 million high energy consuming Europeans from fossil fuel made electricity to off shore windmill based instead. Not only that, inside same project the worlds largest green hydrogen production will take place. Hydrogen are made of electricity and water and when burned it only emits....wait for it...water! A one digit percentage of the hydrogen will be used to ensure sustainable energy production when the wind does not blow but rest will be sold on the open market for cars, trucks, trains and planes as well as heating/cooling. A number of very high CO2 emitting nations (per Capita) such as USA, Australia and Canada have optimal options to make a scale copy/paste of this project. NOTHING prevents these nations from doing same while laughing all the way to the bank. A fully transitioned nation can have all the production and economic growth it can muster without destroying our habitat. Our carbon content still goes up and so will global CO2 taxes making high emitting nations soon face very costly fees upon their exports. The perfect storm are thus brewing and only those that transition in time will be able to compete. As climate extremes increases, the day where populations want to see real action or choose a paradigm shift in whom they elect to rule their nations, are approaching fast. May our good friends and allies realise this before it are to late. Only a true friend will tell you the uncomfortable truth you need to be confronted with, your enemies will happily stay silent while you fail. The ROI on offshore windmill parks are ridiculous good and will pay for itself fast. It were recently revealed that UK spend 7,1 percent of entire national budget on fossil fuel subsidies. Wonder what percentage that are in US, Australia and Canada and why it apparently are not obvious that that cannot continue if we are to survive ourselves for the voters at this point.

There are not many traditional Smørrebrød shops left in Copenhagen where workers would normally pass by to by 2-3 pieces of smørrebrød but there are a few here and there in areas like Nørrebro and Østerbro. The smørrebrød will be much simpler there but just as good and much cheaper.

The Spandauer in Denmark does not contain cheese usually. The pastry is made from a 27 layer laminated dough and butter/margarine (supposed to be butter but is mostly margarine today). There is bakers custard in the middle and usually some kind of remonce filling underneath which is usually made from butter sugar and marzipan. English is not a problem in Denmark. Today, children start to learn English in Grade 1. A lot of people working in shops and restaurants may actually not necessarily be Danes. They can theoretically be from pretty much any country within EU since any EU citizen can apply for any job in any EU country so Danes will default to English if they sense the person they are dealing with is not a Dane.

Fun thing about the Andersen bakery. That is actually a Japanese bakery chain, it of course started out in Japan where it is successful chain specializing in making Danish style baked goods. In Japan they were once visited by our Queen and they've chosen to open a few bakeries here in Denmark - which means what you bought was really a Japanese take on Danish pastry, but they are very true to the origin so all good

The name Spandauer refers to the district of Spandau in Berlin. In the years 1876-1987, a famous/notorious prison with the same name was located in this district. Spandauer's "ramparts" are made as four towers in the dough, just like the prison's towers, and behind these "ramparts" is the cream or the jam thereby locked in. A Danish nickname for a spandauer is "the baker's bad eye". A large part of what is called "Danish pastry" is strongly inspired from other parts of Europe. It is common for Danes to call Danish Pastry Wienerbrød and has its origins in a baker's strike many years ago. On that occasion, bakers were imported from Vienna and what they took with them to Denmark inspired Danish bakers to what is called Danish Pastry today.

Smørrebrød for 75 kr. - for one piece. I mean, that was a lot of topping, but also still very expensive. You'd be able to get a bag of rye bread and maybe 1 or 2 packs of toppings + a bottle of condiments from the store for that price. And that would last me days!! Sorry to say that restaurants are extremely expensive. Still 75 kr. for a single slice just seems outrageous... 😢

I’m glad you liked Copenhagen. A tiny bit of research would have been nice though. The Ottilia Hotel you stayed in is named after the wife of the old Carlsberg brewer Carl Jacobsen. It served as malt and cereal storage for the beer production and also housed barrels of finished brew. Carlsberg literally means Carl’s mountain or hill referring to the founder’s name and the brewery’s location on one of the hightest points of the city. Carlsberg moved its Danish production out of Copenhagen in 2006 making room for the development of an entire new urban area.

Alot of english words come from danish, from the viking conquest of england. So words like farvel became farewell, vindue became window, dør/doer to door. Hundreds of words can be directed from danish to english, like that. Så you are talking more danish that you think.

go outside the turistplaces. copenhagen is expensive, but if you go to other sidestreets, its much more chiper.. Tivoli is pretty expensive if you dont know about tourpasses for the rides, it saves a lot of money, if you wants to use those rides. If you bye one pass all rides are free all day and night. food can be chip, if you find the right places. Wee had a bad 6 weeks with a lot a rain, but that is not the normal summer in DK. I love Denmark, and i fell lucky to be danish

Hia Anna and Trevor, when i saw the open-faced sandwiches i knew i just had to comment =) Smørebrød is what we (usually) put in our lunchboxes, from back when we started school, to when we go to work - we dont exaggerate as much with the filling in our daily life, cos that can be rather brutal and on the daily you need substance too not only filling ;-) - if your main topping is higher than the bread, you put to much on (+/-). The meatballs we usually have at dinner, with potatoes and gravy - then the next day the leftover meatballs are good on an open-faced sandwich (potatoes are too btw, just a little mayo and some chopped chives) - ryebread, butter, meatballs and some pickled red cabbage OR Remolade (a mayo style containing pickled stuff =) You can eat those i just mentioned by hand, we did in school, but when you stack em as they did OR if you are eating at a set table at (someone's) home it is usually with utensils =D Many (if not all) cold cuts can be used - but also salads like the chicken one (which is essentially mayo and some kind of meat) i remember liking ryebred with salami a whole lot when i was a child, what makes it Smørebrød is that its an open-faced sandwich.

The smørrebrød are from a tourist trap. I'm sure it was SUPER great. But I looked the prices at our local gourmet butcher shop: 35 kr. for a handsome piece, it you want it to be luxury de luxe 75 kr. But then it's salmon in layeres and shrimps i boatloads etc.

its interresting to me as a dane that denmark being exspensive is a thing that comes up so often. iguess it depends on what ur exspectentions are. next time, consitter the copenhagen card. it gives access to alot of amusments plus free travel on most of sjælland.

I would say that it is quite exaggerated to call it _"most of sjælland"_ as long as the Copenhagencard "only" covers zone 1 to 99, which covers less than half the island of Sjælland. (Still probably more than most tourists will need.) People should also note that there are two versions of the card 'Discover' and 'Hop'. Discover is the one that has the public transport included that will cover almost half of Sjælland and much more than I think most tourists will need, so not a bad thing with it also covering entrance to 80+ attractions and 2 kids under 12 for free. Hop seems weird to me being more expensive, but covering entrance to less attractions and no free public transportation except for three routes of Hop on Hop off busses.

Greetings for both coming and going is often just: “Hej!” [Hi]. Farvel is a more formal goodbyegreeting. The equivalent welcomegreeting is: “Goddag!” [Goda] Pastry! They are desserts. Sugar treats and sweets. Unlike in US, a dane will not commt sacrilege, and add cheese to a pastry. I’ve tasted “danishes” in the States, and they are a sad, pathetic very lowquality cake-thingywannabe. The trick to eating smørrebrød, is to get a little bit of everything in each bite. Smørrebrød is often designed to let the flavors compliment eachother. So if you not get “a bit of all” in your bite, you can get a weird taste sensation. Loved your presentation.

Hej fra Nordjylland .. so happy to see you in our small lovely country 🙂the meaning of the word "Farvel" could say ( Fare well ) simply means Travel safely ..is from back when tavel on the roads were ( more ) dangerous and wishing ppl to not get mugged or killed 🙂 ohh and a little history lesson for you . Danish pastry is called Wienerbrød ( bread from Vienna) the bakers and owners had a bit of a situation back in the 1840's and the owners then imported bakers from other contries among them were bakers from Vienna and from there the pastry delvoped to what it is today .. the Danishes / Danish pastries you get, especially in north america are abominations and really shouldnt be allowed to have the name " Danish" in there at all ...

its not really that weird, that all scandinavian countries excel in speaking English, cause its part of the Germanic language. and English came from that. with some other influences. our country today is influenced by a lot of English and american tv and films... im a Dane myself. and i have used English so much to the point were i sometimes think in English, i would say its pretty hard to find people there, that can't speak the language. its really only the accents that can through people off ^^

On the price of the food, yeah CPH can be expensive when it comes to eating out .. if you end up in the the tourist traps like you where at ;) You can get good smørbørd for half the price, same with drinks and other food. Copenhagen is no diffrent then other major cities around the world that things gets more expensive near the tourist sites. It is what it is. Wish more travle vlog's would venture outside CPH because honestly there is much more to see, eat and drink and at half the price ;)
